Checking Back In Quickly

Just a quick update.

My cancer was progressing in spite of being on the clinical study, so my doctor has withdrawn me from the study and started a new chemo regimine. I've already had one treatment. If the amount of fluid that accumulates in my abdomen is any indication, it's working already. Hopefully it's killing cancer cells, too.

I just finished 16 days in hospital. Without going into too much uncomfortable detail, I couldn't hold anything down - liquids or food. We seem to have found the magic combination of meds and care. Unfortunately I'm on TPN (nightly feedings through my port) while NPO during the day (other than sips of clear liquids for comfort and taking meds). It's not fun, but I'm home! And I'm trying to do as much as I can to regain as much of the strength I lost in hospital.

DH and I have a move to get ready for. I won't be any help so we will have to have this move done professionally, with the help of friends to box and pack. I feel so helpless - not a feeling I'm comfortable with but one I'm learning to get used to. The hard way. Of course.

I hope to be able to get some time in sewing room this week ... we'll have to see if I'm up to it. I definitely plan to go to the Ts' swim meet this weekend. Not every single event like in the past, but I will be there! Seeing them swim is one of the things that keeps me going! ;-)

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy ... have a great day!
Kathy

  3. Dear friend - I just sat down to email you and I decided to check the blog list first - wonderful to see a post from you! I'm so happy that you are home. If I were closer, I'd come pack for you. The move will get done and once you are in your new home, you will feel more settled. Hope you get a little time with a needle and thread soon - it's great therapy. You are continually in my prayers. Sending love and hugs. Take care! ~Jeanne

  5. I am so glad to see your update, I kept checking regularly because I was worried after your last post. Glad you are able to do some "regular" activities. Wish I could help you move, I would take good care of your quilty things while packing and unpacking. I know how important those things are! I live in Southeast Missouri so I don't think I live too far from you. Take care of yourself--I miss your blogging.

  7. It sounds like it has been really tough, Kathy. I know that a hospital stay would be the last thing on your list of "want to do", but I hope that the new protocol will keep you more comfortable and able to stay home.

I hope you can relax and let the moving help happen. It's tough for you to not be able to participate.

Enjoy the swim meet. I know they will love having you there to cheer them on to victory.

I continue to keep you in my daily prayers, Kathy.

  12. Kathy, I was SO happy to find this update today. I haven't been blogging much, and, somehow, missed the Aug. 31 update about your cancer. I'm so sorry you've been in the hospital. For some reason, I wondered if y'all might have been at Hilton Head during the hurricane Matthew evacuation.
I'm still thinking of and praying for you, all the time. Now that I know what's been going on, I'll know how to pray better. May this new chemo be successful for you! Hang in there, and take good care of yourself. May you soon regain your strength, and feel better.
    Love and prayers,
    Kathy (Reflections)

  14. Kathy, I had hoped your absence from blogging indicated you were having a good time at the beach and packing up for your move. I'm sorry to hear it was neither of those. I think of you so often and send a prayer every time I do. I hope your treatment this time does the work to remove the cancer - permanently this time. Take care.

  15. Just let everyone pamper you and take care of YOU!
You are busy healing and that's a very taxing job, so put your feet up, and take a few stitches whenever you feel like it!
