Lazy Saturday Afternoon

There isn't much on today's agenda, which is exactly the way I want it ... after packing, unpacking, moving stuff out and moving it back in, I am too sore and too exhausted to do much of anything, even if I wanted to. In fact, my arms are too sore to even think of quilting that monstrosity known as the Kiss quilt.  Instead, I'm going to sit out here on the deck, trim my EPPd bow tie blocks and piece them. It's such an absolutely delightful day, and we've got the sliders open with the volume up on the game, so I can stitch and listen to the game ... and enjoy the heady scent of our lilac bush

Speaking of my bow tie blocks, I auditioned the neutrals in my stash for the background, but I just couldn't find any that said "choose me". Finally it dawned on me that I really was wanting something with a very subtle design, so it wouldn't compete with the bow ties. I had something that was close but just not quite what I was looking for. I don't have time to make a trip to either Homestead Hearth (2 hours away) or the Quilted Cottage (an hour away), so I decided to go with an aged muslin ... I'm thinking that the aging will provide the dimension I'm looking for without the "busy-ness" of a print. I found what I was looking for at my go-to online shop (www.fatquartershop.com) and am confident that I'll have it in time to cut squares before we leave (8 days - but who's counting, right?).

Try as hard as I might, I'm unable to get a photo that does justice to the carpeting. In the photos, the carpet looks like your run-of-the-mill plush carpet ... in real life, it's a subtle tweedy carpet that's a hybrid plush-frieze. Yes, it was a lot of work over those three days, but it was well worth it. Up next, backsplash in the kitchen Monday and Tuesday. And yes, it's either all or nothing in the home improvement department here at Chez Nana.  Ha!

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  2. Your carpet looks so clean and soft feeling; I'd love to see it up close, but I get the idea. It has gotten cold here this afternoon; this morning we went over to our daughter's and helped them plant some full grown trees. They are in the midst of landscaping their back yard(an acre and a half), it's a big job. With hubby and I helping we got eight trees planted and they have three more to do tomorrow. I'm sore this afternoon and even took a nap. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!
    Hugs,

  3. Oh, I have so much unpacking ahead of me that it makes me dizzy to even think about it. I've had months to pack but I will want to be unpacked as quickly as possible I'm sure and the boxes will be piled quite high.

Bet you'll be back quilting tomorrow afternoon. Happy new week!

  5. enjoy your carpet! I love lilacs but I do not have any here but I grew up with them and had them in Idaho when we lived there too - you can grow them here in Arkansas but some years they do not do well, it all depends on how cold the winter was.

  7. Oh I am sure you thoroughly enjoyed your afternoon after all of the work of this week. It is kind of hard to SEE the carpeting, but I know how hard shots like that can be, and from I can see it looks, soft, and clean and welcoming. I can never look at a lilac bush without thinking of my sweet mom. She LOVED LOVED lilacs. I do love them too. The smell is perfect. I think the aged muslin sounds perfect for your quilt. Enjoy the rest of your week-end!

  8. The aged muslin sounds like a good choice.
My lilac bushes aren't blooming very well. As the buds were at a tender stage we had a heavy snow that nipped most of them. I'm getting a few blossoms, but with 13 bushes that are taller than I am, the yard usually is quite fragrant as they bloom. Not so this year. : (
Your carpet is very pretty. Such fun to get new flooring. Makes the whole room look new!

  9. Love the carpet - looks a lot like ours! I love the plushness. We bought a carpet rake and it's amazing how it takes out the vacuum tracks and footprints although I think it is to help get dirt up. Enjoy the lilacs and quilting - you have earned a quiet weekend! ~Jeanne

  10. You've earned a day of restful stitching. I can't even imagine what it would be like to move everything out of my sewing room. Although it might be nice to start with a clean slate when moving it back in. Your carpet looks beautiful.

  15. Love your new carpet and the conch shell by the fireplace too. My conch shell sits beside my fireplace and my daughter brought it back from the Bahamas when they were diving quite regularly. Lilacs are northern flowers that I miss as well as iris. Traded them for sun, warm winters and more sun.
