She's Baaack

When I chose to take a blogging hiatus after my diagnosis last November, I really wasn't feeling well enough to blog.  But as time has passed, I'm feeling better.  I do tire out fairly easily, so I'm not nearly as productive as I used to be so I didn't feel like there was enough going on that would be very blog worthy on any given day, but perhaps I'll have enough to blog about if I post once a week to ten days?  I'm willing to give it a try.

CANCER UPDATE:  I have three more chemo treatments scheduled ... currently my last treatment is scheduled for March 8.  Initially I was going to have 9 weeks of chemo, but since the chemo is working so well and since I'm tolerating it so well, my oncologist wants me to have another 3 treatments ... the smaller/more confined we can get all that cancer, the more he'll be able to remove during surgery. And speaking of surgery, I'm sure that he and I will discuss it during my appointment on Tuesday, but I would imagine that he'll want to do surgery within a week or two after my last chemo.  Monday's blood draw will include checking my cancer markers ... they were checked 3 weeks ago, and the level was approximately a fourth of what it was early December.  I'm excited to see how much they've dropped after another 3 weeks.

QUILTING UPDATE:  I didn't anticipate feeling so good when we made the move to DD's so my sewing machine remains in my sewing room back home.  And since my surgery will be coming up before too long, it'll stay there for a while.  I do have my Martha Washington's Flower Garden to work on, so I'm not suffering from quilty withdrawal. ;-)   Perhaps after my surgery, I'll find a nook for my sewing table here at DD's.  I'll do my best to have a picture of some of my progress when I post next.

LIFE UPDATE: The Ts have done well at their swim meets ... they've qualified for USA Swim championships (next weekend) and for YMCA championships (March 18-20). The USA Swim meet will be in St. Louis, so I'll be able to cheer them on; if my surgery is scheduled for mid-March as I suspect it will be, I may not be able to watch them compete at that meet ... although that meet is held here in town, about a mile away from DD's house, and the venue is handicapped accessible, so I'm hoping that I might be able to watch a few events.

Ive been keeping busy working puzzles with DD.  We finished one yesterday, and I think we'll start another tomorrow.  I've also been reading a lot, as well ... a perfect way to while away the hours at the Infusion Center.  ;-)

I had a milestone birthday earlier this month ... and I got a nice gift from Uncle Sam.

And I had the biggest birthday party ... thousands celebrated along with me.  Oh wait, you mean they were celebrating Super Bowl 50, not my birthday?  Ha!

The weather the last few days has been positively delightful. We set a record high yesterday, and it should be even a little warmer today.  Definitely a day to get out and get in a nice walk.  The forecast shows a return to more seasonable weather in a few days, so we're definitely enjoying this lovely weather while we can.  And on that note, I'm going to head outside.

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy ... have a great day!
Kathy

  1. Dearest Kathy, What joy to see you post again-I have missed you and feel your absence so much. Thanks for getting me caught up. I too am so thankful that you have tolerated the chemo so well. Also praising Him that you got in and found out before the cells had progressed too much. I know you miss your sewing and quilting but time will come and you'll be back to it. I'm working on embroidery stitches right now that I haven't done in 10(?) years or more-ugh, but I'll post the square on FB so you can see it. Doing two squares a week sound easy enough but the pieces are usually 1-2" and it takes time to make sure I'm accurate, but I know it will help me in the long run. I know living with DD is such a blessing and having the grands around is good for your spirit. You got medicare? I will be 64 in March, so have to wait another year. At least it will help with the costs of the surgery. Sending all my love and prayers to you today!
    Hugs, Noreen

  2. so glad to see you here updating and that you felt well enough to do that. I have heard so many that do not tolerate chemo at all well so I am very glad to hear that you are one of the ones that do tolerate it and that it is shrinking those tumor's(cells?) I wish you all the best and hope the surgery is a complete success and that all the cancer can be removed. Very much have missed your posts dear quilting friend!

  4. Good news all around, Kathy! So grateful for the update. Glad to hear your markers are going down dramatically and that you are tolerating the chemo fairly well. Sounds like you are being wise--not tiring yourself too much--reading, puzzles and handwork are great options. What a blessing to have a loving daughter take you into her home and be there to share this with you. You continue in my prayers.

  6. Seeing your post brought me great joy! I am delighted you are feeling stronger and that things are progressing in the right direction. I pray for you daily and will continue. I'm so glad that you are tolerating the treatments well. Isn't this weather great? I hope you were able to get out for a walk today. I think hand sewing and reading are great ways to pass the time - even when one isn't battling cancer. Now that you are officially 'old', you get to do whatever you want! Happy belated birthday! Take care my friend. ~Jeanne

  7. I am so sorry you are going through what you are going through, but what little I have read sounds very promising for you. I love doing puzzles (what have you worked on?) and I love finding the time to read, too. Right now I am reading a self-help book. I had to laugh though at your gift from Uncle Sam. I am expecting mine any day now. Geesh....nothing like making you feel old, right? Hope you feel well soon and I do love the quilt blocks you are presently working on. Stay strong.

  10. Oh Kathy I was sooo excited to come on here tonight and see that you had posted! Can't tell you how much I've missed you! It is just so wonderful to hear how well you tolerated the chemo, and how well it is working! What a praise report! I am glad that you have the Marsha Washington to work on and keep you busy and to keep you from going into complete quilting withdrawals, lol. I was happy to hear that your grands are doing as well as they always do with their swimming, and was even happier to hear that you've been able to go to the meets. Hopefully they will do well at Nationals. I am looking forward to the day hubby and I can both collect medicare, medical insurance is SOOOO expensive, but while hubby has only 1 more year, I've got 4, so guess it will be a while yet. I am busy as usual preparing for my new coming GREAT grand daughter Sophia, and sewing some spring/summer things for Miss Claire as well. I am supposed to be picking up the quilt I made for Sophia next week, and I am anxious to see it. Well my friend, welcome back to the blogging world! PRAISING Jesus for how you well you are doing, and praying everyday for your complete recovery! Hugs to you!! Debbie
