Wednesday Hodgepodge

I can't believe I'm actually able to participate in the Hodgepodge this week ... I've missed being a part of it.  Why not click on the button above and join in the fun?

1. Describe a typical Sunday from your childhood.

After my mom took us girls to Sunday School, we would have lunch with one of her friends and her kids.  During the summer, our afternoons would always include the Cardinals broadcast on KMOX - my sister and I would keep score on leftover notebook paper from school.  We always watched the Ed Sullivan show before bedtime.

2. How comfortable are you with uncertainty? Explain.
Very uncomfortable. I like knowing what's going to happen, when, where, why, and with whom. Yes, I'm a control freak. ;-)  Thankfully I know Who is REALLY in control.

3. What have you accomplished recently that might be described as crafty, as in 'arts and crafts' crafty?  If crafty doesn't work for you, how about handy? Or both?
I suppose some would think of quilting as crafty ... I think of it more along the arts side of "arts and crafts".  I'm not very crafty - no creativity and not much desire either.

4. Have you ever worked in a 'food place'? What did you take away from the experience?
I was a waitress my first year of college - 60 cents an hour.  I decided right then and there that no matter what, I was going to finish my degree because I vowed that I would never waitress for a living.  And I make sure that DH is a generous tipper.

5. Cold turkeytalk turkeywhat a turkey...in recent days, which turkey phrase or idiom best applies to you and why? Click on the word turkey if you need to read more about the meaning behind each phrase.
I'm sure that many who know me well would say I need to choose "what a turkey". ;-)

6. If you could have any one guest join your Thanksgiving dinner table, who would it be?
Instead of adding a guest, how about subtracting one?  Ha!

7. What is one thing you must accomplish today?
Today?  I need to check to confirm that the auto deduct from our checking to pay our Target red card took place.  Exciting, huh?  ;-)

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I had my annual check up Monday afternoon. I discussed my finger ... I was told that because I'd been faithful to rest my finger, I was one of her most compliant patients.  ;-)  She was still confident that the nerve would heal completely and that as long as I pay attention to any pain/discomfort and as long as I don't overdo, I am fine to use my finger.  I may slow down the healing a little, but I will have my life back.  ;-)  I've figured out what seems to exacerbate the nerve, and I do my best to avoid those activities.

Yesterday was DH's birthday.  T#4 gave me the present she made for him and asked me to make sure that he got it.

This is what greeted us out on our deck yesterday morning.  This may not be the earliest snow, but usually if we get any snow this early, it just melts immediately.  So having snow greet us after an overnight snow is certainly unusual.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. You are definitely what I'd call crafty, Kathy...and very talented! Snow already? Would you believe that we were at 27 degrees here this morning? I'm completely miserable! I can't seem to warm up!

  2. Love your quilts--artsy? or crafty?...either way, they are beautiful!

  3. Good morning! I know everyone always considers me "crafty" too, but I agree with you....sewing/quilting are NOT crafts, lol. To me, crafts are making things with wood, paint, paper, clay, glue, etc. etc. And I HATE crafts...not the finished products, the making of them, haha. I seem to like control too, and haha on number six. Glad you heard what you did at docs! Enjoy your day!

  4. I think you are very creative Kathy! It takes talent to choose the "just right" fabrics for a quilt and then bring it to life :) We got a little snow yesterday too but not enough to count - just flurries. It's still pretty cold though!! On my agenda today - I'm off to play on Joanne's longarm :*D

  7. That first snow is always so pretty - and somehow brings a 'hush' to the world for the first little while. Looking forward to getting that here.

  8. I think quilting is very crafty! And you answer to #6 made me giggle...I think everyone has one person they would like to un-invite :) We got snow too - and some of it stayed! I've had to scrape my windshield the past 2 mornings...I'm not ready for winter!!

  9. I never realized that your hubby's birthday was the day before my hubby's birthday! Belated birthday wishes to DH!

I have the 'control freak' mentality, too. Sometimes it makes life harder than it needs to be, doesn't it?

  11. Seems like almost everyone went to church, that is so awesome. I am a control freak too. Hard to believe you worked for 60 cents an hour and we always give 20%! I like my Target card, nothing better than saving money. Love his present and happy birthday to him. I know edshunnybunny's husband had a birthday and my husbands is next Monday! Burr....on the snow....

  12. The weather is crazy, isn't it? I'd definitely call quilting being crafty. Sweet present, for sure! I didn't think about the answer being indicative of a "control freak", but I definitely am, too!

  15. I got $1.45/hr at A&W when I was in high school. A 25 cent tip was a big tip -- and we had to split it with the other carhops! To this day, I don't like root beer. ha.

  16. The jobs I held prior to college also motivated me to finish my degree. I worked as a waitress as well and I also make sure my husband leaves a good tip (he doesn't need much encouragement, he understands how hard they work) Hope you are having a good day...pretty brisk here too...25 this morning...yikes!

  17. Too funny on the control question. I always drove the rentals on vacations as soon as I turned 25 - it was the 'control' need and my sister didn't mind. Surprises just make me nervous.
You are a very 'crafty' person! Love the gift for DH. Happy belated birthday to him.
