The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men
If that doesn’t sum up my life, I sure don’t know what does.
Once again, my plans have changed. Today DH and I were to head up to my sister’s for the weekend to join them at her grandson’s baptism tomorrow. But I was feeling pretty puny yesterday (a cold) and she wasn’t feeling any better (gastroparesis), so we decided to cancel our trip up. I will be honest and say that I’m not all that much disappointed. December has been such a busy month, and I have been longing for a couple of days in a row where we didn’t have/need to go somewhere or do something.
Yesterday we met up with extended family (DD and her family, DSIL’s parents, and his sister and brother-in-law) to celebrate DSIL’s birthday. DD and DSIL went to go shopping (he asked for cash for Christmas and for his birthday), which gave his sister the perfect opportunity to surprise them for Christmas … she wanted to repaint their bedroom. DD has been wanting to repaint that room since the day they moved in, especially after I made that quilt for their bed. I was drafted to help so they could be sure that the room would be done by the time that DD and DSIL returned … my job was to supervise T#1 and T#2 in their first attempt to paint (load their rollers, check for drips, etc.). I thought that wouldn’t be too taxing, given how I felt. WRONG! When I got home, I felt like I’d been run over by a Mack truck … and if it’s possible, I feel even more so this morning! But it’s worth it given DD’s reaction (DSIL’s sister sent me a video of DD as she walked into their bedroom and saw it). Here’s how it looked when I left (forgive the blurriness ... the photo was taken with DSIL's sister's iPhone). (And yesterday’s experience has definitely reaffirmed my decision to hire out any repainting here at Chez Nana! Ha!)
Obviously, I will be having the quiet, relaxing (aka lazy) day that I’d longed for … I don’t think I could do much of anything today even if I wanted to! Of course, I’m not too wiped out to be able to pick up my needle and thread this morning … and I think there will be a movie or two watched, too. I put in a few stitches yesterday evening … I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again … I’m making progress, slowly but surely. I plan to continue to work on this until the 5th when I plan to start cutting fabric to make T#3’s new quilt. I’d like to have the quilting completed on DH’s quilt by then, but it’ll depend on how much I can get done in the next week … there isn’t a whole lot on my schedule between now and then, but we all know what happens to my plans, right?
I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!

The room turned out beautifully! Rest up and enjoy some sewing. You've definitely earned it.ReplyDelete
hope you feel better soon! I would hate to paint on a deadline :) get some rest!ReplyDelete
The room looks wonderful! What a lovely surprise! Hope you are feeling better soon. A few days sitting under and stitching a quilt sounds glorious!ReplyDelete
Happy New Year, Kathy!
The room looks fantastic - well worth the efforts. So sorry that you are still feeling yuck. I am feeling better each day. I think it's because "everything" is over and I can just rest without considering what needs to be done. Spend the day in your jammies - rest, drink lots, stitch, and rest. Good Luck! ~JeanneReplyDelete
Lovely job! I hope a few days being lazy on the couch with movies and hand quilting (and lots of rest and liquids!) will take care of the cold. I've been threatening to cut off my nose but the DayQuill is working wonders when I remember to take it.ReplyDelete
My honey likes to paint as he does home reno and does a professional job... no tape! lol But I don't care to paint and have hired it out in the past with good results.. most paint stores will have recommendations for painters depending on what kind of area you are painting.. hope your daughter loves the warmth that color gave the room and accents the quilt and pillows nicely... Keep up the stitching on hubbys quilt and it will be done before you know it.. my 2015 plans are already piling up without me asking ! ha :) KathiReplyDelete
Sometimes we have to get sick to force us to rest, don't we?ReplyDelete
The room looks great. I love to paint, but I don't know that supervising children while painting would be a calm, restful experience. : )
Dear Kathy, I'm sorry you aren't feeling well and I hope it passes quickly. I was a bit sluggish yesterday and today-in fact, we stayed in our sweats most of yesterday. Today we went out before lunch and ran to costco. I'm feeling better today, but love having days when we can just kick back and not go anywhere. I am hoping to sew tomorrow and the several days next week. Stay warm my friend and enjoy a relaxing day!ReplyDelete
There seems to be soooo much sickness in the air. I'm hoping and praying that all of our crew can stay well while everyone is together. That would be a major glitch in our plans if not. Hoping the weekend brings you recovery.ReplyDelete
It is pouring rain here and suppose to continue through tomorrow. That's not fun either but we'll just have to make the best of it and find inside stuff to entertain everyone. I have a big pot of gumbo on the stove brewing for the first of the crew that will arrive around 5:30-6:00 this evening.
Wishing you well!
What a great job on that painting! And yes, it IS hard work. Glad you got some down time finally, it Is necessary. ;)ReplyDelete
The room is so elegant and your quilt is the icing on the cake! It looks fabulous!ReplyDelete
Hope you are feeling better quickly. Happy New Year!
The room looks like it should be in a magazine. That quilt really sets it off!ReplyDelete
Ha! Painting is not for wimps. And feeling worse the next day is the norm. I used to enjoy painting, but now....... What a fantastic surprise, though!ReplyDelete
