So Long, April

Am I the only one who thinks that it's just the first of April, not the last?  Where has the month gone?

When I'm last blogged, I reported that I had all my tumbler pairs stitched into "foursies". Oops, not.  :-o  I'm not sure what I was thinking ... I'm going to play the "chemo brain" card here.  Ha!  I still don't have all the pairs stitched together, but I'm close ... close enough to lay them out on my design floor.
Disclaimer: I'm not sure why it appears that my tumblers have 90 degree angles at the corners. Trust me, they don't.  Because when I saw the photo I took, I panicked and checked them carefully ... yep, they're all the traditional tumbler shape as you can see here.
(Remember these?  They're the pairs sewn together incorrectly. Another oops.)  I thought about setting the "foursies" back out on the design floor to see if I couldn't get a picture where the tumblers look like tumblers ... but I think crawling around on the floor once was enough at this stage on my recovery (probably more than enough ha!).

My original plan was to lay the tumblers out 26x26, but now that I saw them laid out in a 24x24 setting, the quilt is larger than I'd anticipated (I'm terrible at visualizing, especially sizes). I want this to be a good-sized wall hanging, so I'm thinking it'll be a little smaller than originally planned. I'm thinking maybe 16x16 ... I'll see how it looks when I get it to that size.

I had my second of twelve chemo sessions this past Tuesday. I'm tolerating the chemo quite well. I'd say every bit as well as I did the first go 'round ... except for my sleep.  Since I resumed chemo, I have had trouble falling asleep ... I go to bed at my usual time, lay there wide awake for about an hour, give up and get up for another 2-3 hours. :-o   I do sleep later, but even so, I'm only averaging 6-7 hours instead of the 9 I normally get.  I'd really rather go to sleep and get up at "normal" hours. I'm reluctant to blame it on chemo as I slept like a baby when I was on chemo before my surgery.  I'll definitely mention it when I see my oncologist ... surely there's something mild I can take to help me fall asleep when I go to bed.

The second round of the NHL playoffs has begun.  The bad news is that my Blues didn't get off to a good start. The good news is that there are 6 games remaining. Hope springs eternal for Blues fans. ;-)

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy ... have a great day!
Kathy

  1. You are amazing my friend; I want to say it enough that you'll believe it. O.k. so are you on any sort of steroid? If so, that is probably disrupting your sleep. There are nights when I'm awake til 2:00 or so, makes it hard to function in the morning. I'm working on the border of my quilt and then will put the binding on. Will also need to make pillow shams for the bed. Hope you have a good weekend; I'm headed downstairs to make probably my last Honor Flight block. Guess the group I'm in is not making anymore. I may or may not continue. I finally got my machine back and so happy!
    Sending hugs your way.

  2. I am with you, I do not know how April went by so fast. Love, love, love your tumblers! I am so happy you are feeling well enough to do some sewing. I would definitely ask about something to help you sleep, I would think getting a restful nights sleep will help in your recovery. Hopefully your Blues will do better in their next games!

  3. I was going to say also that if you are on any kind of steroid it could change your sleep cycle - I hope you can get some rest soon - so glad that you are tolerating chemo I have heard of so many that do not. I am wishing you nothing but luck - the quilt is turning out great!

  4. I can't believe how fast this year is going by!!! That is going to be an awesome wall hanging. I'm thinking Melatonin might help you to fall asleep. Glad your are tolerating the chemo as best as you can. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  5. You are kidding, is April really over?!? Yikes!
That is really interesting how the tumblers do appear to have 90 degree corners. I will accept your reassurance that they do not and try not to puzzle over it too much. : )
Other than the sleep issue (which can be very tiresome), I am glad you are tolerating the chemo well again. Always praying for you, my friend!

  7. Way to go! Will be keeping you in my thoughts. I listen to an audiobook when I am trying to fall asleep. Yes, I always have to rewind it until I get to a place I remember hearing, but it helps me fall asleep. XO

  9. It feels more like the beginning of April or March! When I looked at your tumbler quilt, my first thought was "How did you do 90 degree angles"!!! Thanks for clarifying. Have you seen the design walls that are similar to a sheet? You just hang them with a couple of nails in the wall - The eyelets just slip over the nails so they are very easy to remove. Glad most things are going well and hope the doc can help with your sleeping. ~Jeanne

  10. That is so interesting how they appear to have 90* angles.

Glad the chemo is going well for you, but the sleep thing is a bummer. I really hate not being able to fall asleep. Hope they can come up with a simple solution for you.

    Onwards into May.....gulp!

  12. Isn't it funny how different blocks look in a picture? I always take one to make sure everything is in place before I stitch things together. And I'm with you - May already???? This year is flying by much too quickly!!!
