An Update

I'm day 3 post op and am actually feeling pretty good.  The best news is that barring anything out of whack with my final blood draw, I should be going home this afternoon!  Woo hoo!

My oncologist found more cancer than he was expecting but was able to get about 80-90% of it.   There were some small spots around the blood supply in my small intestine ... to remove that cancer he would have had to remove the small intestine.  He felt that I would be better off having chemo deal with it, so when I resume chemo, I'll have another chemo added to my earlier regimine. Tissue samples were sent off for testing ... that will give him an idea if there are other chemo drugs that might be even more effective.  He is optimistic that chemo will take care of what he couldn't get and imagines that I'll resume chemo in a couple of weeks ... I have an appointment to see him on the 12th and should know more then.

I have had very manageable pain all along, not at all what I was expecting ... but for which I am very thankful. I've also had a couple of minor bumps along the way, but they have been easily resolved.

My sisters were here while I've been in the hospital, and my dad came down for a short visit on day 1 post op.  And of course, DD  and DH were here throughout the entire stay. The entire medical staff here were very friendly and helpful ... but I won't complain if I don't have to come back. Ha!

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy ... have a great day!
Kathy

  8. Oh Kathy I am soo glad that this surgery is behind you now and that you did SOO well! I did soo well after my hysterectomy that honestly I was totally surprised over it, and I was really praying that you too would experience that. Thank God! And as far as not quite getting it all goes, it still sounds pretty good. I love that they have a very specific chemo that they can use on what is left, and I will begin praying that it does it's job thoroughly and with as little side effects as possible. You did soo well with that on your first rounds of chemo that I am really imagining it will be the case again. I know this has been a long, hard ordeal for you but I am soo glad that your not only your hubby but your daughter have been able to be right there for you through the whole thing. 'What an incredible blessing that has had to have been. Hopefully you will be home this afternoon and back in your own bed where you can get plenty of rest and be feeling pretty good soon. Hospitals just never seem to let you rest very well. I am glad your sisters and dad were able to come by and see you too. I will continue to pray for you as you finish up with these chemo treatments, and hopefully the time will move swiftly and you will soon be back to your old self before you know it. MANY blessings and hugs to you! Debbie

  20. You and your family have been on my mind and in my prayers, Kathy. It's good news that your pain hasn't been horrible. Not such good news that the doctor found more cancer than he hoped -- but surely upcoming treatments will take care of it. I hope you continue to feel better and better as the days go by. Take care.
