Wednesday Hodgepodge

This is Joyce’s 180th Wednesday Hodgepodge … as a charter Hodgepodger, I had every intention of taking part in every single Hodgepodge … but alas, sometimes life and travels interfere.  But I’m joining in this week … and hope you will too (just click on the button above).

1.  Speaking of 180...when was the last time you 'did a 180' on something?

When DH started talking about getting a new car … at first I was definitely against it … there was nothing was wrong with ours.  But when an expensive part needed to be replaced, I wondered if we might not be reaching the point where we were finally going to have to start putting some money into it … after all it was almost 6 years old and had well over 100,000 miles on it.  So I acquiesced and agreed that it was time to replace it.

2. It's Independence Week in the US of A! What's your favorite thing about America right this very minute? Favorites only! Let's hear what you love about America.  If you're playing along today, and you're not an American but have been to America, what do/did you like best about this country? If you've never been to America, do you have any desire to visit? What's the number one thing you'd like to see?

The freedom we have to worship however and whenever we please.

3. Stars or stripes? Red, white, or blue? Watermelon, homemade vanilla ice cream, or blueberry pie?

Stars (especially in quilts!!).  Blue (my favorite color).  Homemade vanilla ice cream … without a doubt.  In fact, I refuse to make homemade ice cream because I would have absolutely no self control when it comes to homemade ice cream!  Winking smile

4. When did you last see stars, figuratively speaking?

I don’t remember … I’m sure I have, but I just cannot recall.

5.  'Clear as a bell', 'with bells on',  'lots of bells and whistles', 'saved by the bell'...which phrase 'rings' truest for you lately?  Have you ever seen The Liberty Bell?

I’ll answer the easier question first:  I’ve never seen the Liberty Bell, and I don’t imagine I ever will.  Visiting Philadelphia isn’t on my bucket list.  I’m not sure which of those phrases ring true for me these days … guess I’ll pass.

6. Are you caught up in World Cup fever? Have you watched a lot or a little or none at all?

None at all.  I just can’t get into soccer, even though St. Louis is still considered a hotbed of US soccer.

7. Bid farewell to June in 10 words or less.

June … where in the world did you go?

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I finished piecing together all the rows of the chevron quilt Sunday afternoon and was so excited.  But as I was pressing the top, I noticed a row with several lopped triangle tips … I had tried to convince myself that while they weren’t perfect, they were close enough … I came to my senses and realized that there was no way that I would be happy with those lopped tips.  So Monday morning I stitched up a new row and replaced it … much better.  I spent the rest of the day finishing kitting up fabrics for the retreat and cutting borders for the chevron quilt.

While out in the garden Tuesday morning, I picked our first tomato … and I discovered that our green beans are blooming … hopefully it won’t be too much longer before we’ll be picking green beans and more tomatoes!

My plan for the rest of Tuesday was to spend it in the sewing room, but instead I got to spend the day with DD and my Ts.  Red heart

Hope you all are having a terrific start to your July!

Kathy

  1. I have seen the Liberty Bell and it was beautiful but in my opinion it wasn't worth standing in line over an hour to finally get to be able to view it! Philadelphia is a great city but I would rather be in the mountains in a forest :)
we had such a storm go through last night I need to go straighten out the tomato cages and see if one plant is damaged or just severely tipped to its side!

  5. Good morning! Never did get around to doing the hodgepodge this week...looks fun as always. I don't know rather I should be relieved or horrified that a quilter as experienced and good as you are can still get lopped off tips, lol. They have given me the most headaches of all since I started quilting. I try to do everything as carefully as I can....press not iron, cut carefully, PIN and sew carefully, and still sometimes there just seems to be NO room to make the connecting seam, sigh...And yet sometimes they are just perfect! I do know I would have had to remove the offending row too. Can't wait to see yours all together. Enjoy your day Kathy!

  6. It seems we all have similar feelings about the month of June-here and gone in the blink of an eye. Enjoy your home grown tomatoes!

  7. I think I love soccer because Birdie played for ten years when she was growing up. And then Deanie dated two soccer players in high school and college. But it will never take first place in my sporty heart. That will always belong to American football. LOL I bet that Chevron quilt is going to be gorgeous! What color is it?

  10. So you're a perfectionist :) I would have said, "that's my extra touch" & let it go :)

  11. How nice and really you don't fix home made ice cream? I maybe wouldn't if I liked it. I fix it all summer long.
I really like how your quilt is coming along now.
    Have a lovely 4th.

  12. I thought June went by in a flash, too!
So happy to hear that your garden is doing well! The next best thing to quilting and being at the beach, just might be growing (and eating) your own veggies :)

  14. I have missed the past two weeks of HP and have missed it so much. But, had company last week and was gone this week, but hopefully I'll be "back in the loop" next week.

Agree with you, freedom to worship and vanilla ice cream.

    Happy 4th of July!

  15. Why is it we can't let things like lopped off points go?? My husband always say just leave it no one will notice. He doesn't notice. How great to be getting fresh veggies from your garden!

  16. Oh, I can't wait for our first tomato! Green beans are growing but no blossoms yet here. Maybe we need to move a bit south! June is gone - wouldn't it be great if these storms had left with it?!!! Glad your quilt top is really finished. ~Jeanne
