We Interrupt This Program …

for this Public Service Announcement (for those of you who are using Blogger for your blogs).

Did you know that Blogger has changed its settings so many of you are requiring your commenters to prove that they’re not robots … even though for years, you didn’t require that?
Please prove you're not a robot

It was a surprise to me when I saw a few bloggers mention it … my first thought was that it wasn’t affecting MY blog because I turned off “word verification” a looooong time ago.  Then I got to thinking … technically this isn’t “word verification” … it’s “number verification” … or proving that we’re not robots.  So I decided to test it on my blog … and sure enough, any of you who’ve been gracious enough to leave comments have had to go through that rigmarole just to leave me a comment.  <sigh>  I searched all over my dashboard for a setting that would allow me to turn it off, and I did a Google search … all to no avail.  Then the light bulb turned on … the bloggers I follow who didn’t require me to prove that I’m not a robot all had one thing in common … they had their comment section located within (at the bottom of) the post as opposed to a pop-up box or a new screen.  I changed my blog settings (to “embedded”) and sure enough!  No more proving that you all aren’t robots!  Open-mouthed smile
Comment location

If you all want to make sure that your readers aren’t required to prove that they’re not robots, just go to your dashboard (www.blogger.com) and click on settings and then click on posts and comments … and change your comment location to “embedded”.  Easy peasy.

I’ve got an unexpected/unplanned day off today.  DD has been working the Scholastic Book Fair, and I’ve been watching the Ts for her.  It gives her a chance to get out and spend some time with other adults, it allows her to buy books – LOTS of books – on the cheap, and it allows me some time with the Ts.  It’s a “win-win-win” situation.  ha!

I suspect that most of you can imagine how I’m going to spend this free day … quilting of course!  Starting right now!  Winking smile

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  3. checked that out and I WAS requiring robot work....so glad you pointed that out. It was an easy fix. I had noticed how suddenly several blogs had that going that didn't before, but I just thought everyone was becoming paranoid for some reason. I honestly wondered if I had missed something. Anyway, thanks for the heads up!

  4. Thank you! I fixed my blog so it is back to no PITA extra things to leave a comment. Enjoy your stitching today. I got lazy and decided to watch some Downtown Abby and hand stitch a peel block on the quilt... another block is quilted!

  7. Nice!
I've heard recently - & its working - that if you are a blogger ON Blogger, you just had to enter Publish without putting the number & it posts anyways! & its true! I've saved myself a lot of hassle today not worrying about that.

  8. Thanks - I'm sure you have helped a lot of people! Enjoy your day of quilting. I baked 4 kinds of cookies this morning and we will do a few errands after lunch. Then I'm hoping to grab a little stitching time. It's nice to cross a few things off of my to-do list today. ~Jeanne

  10. Actually you can hit publish my comment without doing the number thing. I heard that it is a glitch. I actually don't like the embedded comment section because when I am answering a post I usually have several things to comment on which makes it harder because I have to continually scroll up and down the page to reread and answer. However I suppose I will have to change over to this too :( Thank for the information.

  16. Hi Kathy, Thank you so much for this info-I had noticed so many bloggers doing the number verification(thinking it was just them, not me)and how hard it can be to read some of the numbers. I figured it was just people having issues with lots of spam.
Glad you got some stitching time today. I have a root canal tomorrow, so maybe I'll get some time to work on piecing too. Have a wonderful Thursday.
    Hugs, Noreen

  18. I had noticed more blogs were asking for verification. I thought maybe everyone was having trouble with anonymous comments or spam or something. Thanks for the information Kathy. I hope you had a relaxing day stitching.

  19. Thanks for the info, that explains why I'm having to type so many numbers. My blog is on WordPress, but I've been having trouble leaving comments on blogs for some reason.
Love the new header on your blog!!!

  22. Thanks! I will check that out. I also learned that when I added my blog to google plus, it made me a noreply blogger. Boo. And I can't figure out how to change it. Any suggestions about that, you techie guru?

  23. Thank you! I just checked and mine had been changed, too. I fixed per your instructions!

  24. Great info Kathy! I had noticed that many blogs were sporting new verification boxes. My comments are embedded so I think I'm okay - hopefully! I have had a lot of friends tell me lately that they can't comment on a log of blogs. Sharon Vrooman's post helped explain some of that for me today too. Enjoy your "day off" and have a lovely weekend!!!

  25. Very interesting! I had to go check out my blog to see what mine did. I've been noticing more of the verification and thought maybe spam had gotten worse for people!

  26. Thanks Kathy for the screenshot as I am a visual learner. This change almost makes me want to seriously consider swiching to Wordpress.
