Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

Carissa (from one of my favorite Low Country cities) over at lowercase letters hosts Miscellany Monday ... and I'm going to join in today (nothing like a meme to make a legitimate blog post out of my random babbling).

1. I'm dreaming of a white beach
I spent most of the morning here on the computer working on alternatives for our spring trip.  We try to take a couple of "good" trips ... one in the spring and another in the fall.  We've been contemplating going to Florida ... in January since we'll already be about halfway there after visiting my dad who'll be wintering in Orange Beach, AL on the Gulf Coast ... or in March so we can take in a spring training game or two.  We've also been thinking about doing our favorite destination - Hilton Head Island - in mid to late April.  I read on a blog this morning about how inexpensive lodging is currently on South Padre Island and got to thinking that maybe we could visit a new beach!  ;-)  I suspect we'll end up over on the Atlantic coast, but half the fun of our trips is the planning (keeping the cost of the trip in our budget can be a challenge ... but one I kind of enjoy).  And yes, I AM dreaming of a White Christmas, too!  ;-)

2.  Baby, it's cold outside
Winter is here ... with a vengeance.  It's not going to get above freezing today.  Thankfully I got my "must-do" running done yesterday, so I can take it easy today.  No, that's not my thermometer ... but it's not going to get much warmer than that today.  If we've got to have cold weather, the least we could do would be to have some snow to go with it.

3.  O Come O Come Emmanuel
I love the Christmas season ... even though we don't celebrate Advent at our church, the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas is one of excited anticipation.  We look forward to the family get-togethers, to giving gifts, to all the wonderful traditions of Christmas ... and we look forward to the day when we remember that Jesus came to earth.  God's really been working on my heart this Christmas season ... He's been teaching me to look forward to Jesus' return with as much excitement and anticipation as I do for the remembrance of His first coming.

I've got to get up away from the computer if I'm going to do anything productive today.  But I'm going to leave you with some thoughts that are near and dear to my heart:

If I had known how wonderful it would be to have grandchildren, I'd have had them first. ~Lois Wyse

If becoming a grandmother was only a matter of choice, I should advise every one of you straight away to become one. There is no fun for old people like it! ~Hannah Whithall Smith

It's such a grand thing to be a mother of a mother - that's why the world calls her grandmother. ~Author Unknown

Grandchildren are God's way of compensating us for growing old. ~Mary H. Waldrip

If your baby is 'beautiful and perfect, never cries or fusses, sleeps on schedule and burps on demand, an angel all the time,' you're the grandma. ~Teresa Bloomingdale

Grandparents are similar to a piece of string - handy to have around and easily wrapped around the fingers of their grandchildren. ~Author Unknown

Yes, the best years of my life have been my "Nana years".  ;-)

  1. Having grand children is your reward for letting your kids live! That is what I told our children anyway once they made me a Grannie. Enjoy planning your vacation.

  3. Love your quotes. Here's one more, though I don't know who said it: "Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your kids when they were teenagers!"
