Meteorologists? Bah Humbug!

Once again the meteorologists failed to come through for us.  Originally the forecast was for 4-6 inches, then 3-4 inches, then a couple of inches, then less than one inch … and when I woke up this morning, there wasn’t a flake of snow to be seen.  The snow missed our area altogether.  Sad smile  What’s worse is that according to the weather map, the snow missed us by just a couple of miles.

We had a quiet Christmas here at Chez Nana.  I worked in the nursery during the first Christmas Eve service, so we attended the second service.  During the message, our minister was sharing a story about a family who was driving around, pointing out the nativity scenes … “Look, it’s the Wise Men” and “Look, it’s the Shepherds” … and the little boy in the story exclaimed “Look, Mommy, it’s Baby Santa” … to which T#3 shouted out “No, it’s Baby Jesus”.  That little guy “gets it”.  Red heart

Thankfully we were able to get home in time to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” again.  Yes, I know that we watched it a few weeks earlier, but it’s such a wonderful movie … it’s worth seeing twice in one Christmas season.  Winking smile

Christmas Day, DH and I exchanged our gifts.  We promised each other that we wouldn’t get each other anything for Christmas, but it turned out that we both wanted to give each other a little something anyway.  Winking smile  I got a subscription to Quiltmaker magazine

Because it was Christmas, I didn’t want to sequester myself in my sewing room, so I brought my sewing table out to the living room … and continued to work on my disappearing four patch blocks.  DH read while I stitched … nothing very exciting, but we were together, both content, both doing something we loved.  We finished the evening with a movie.

Speaking of my quilt, I have 10 of the 16 blocks finished … I’d like to get the quilt pieced and sandwiched today, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get that far as we really need to get our tree down.

That’s about all I have on my agenda for today … taking the tree down and sewing.  Just like I don’t do Black Friday, I don’t do the After-Christmas sales.  Ha!

  2. We're getting the snow too. I would be just as glad if we didn't. haha However, it really is beautiful.

Sounds like you guys had a really nice Christmas. Love the story of your T#3!

We're not doing sales either because of the snow. We were going to see a movie, but again the snow is a problem. So we're just enjoying the day relaxing at home. Although I may have to go into work in a bit. I have to go in one day this week to do payroll, but they are having software issues, so I'm not sure yet when that will be.

Hope you have a great day!

  4. So glad you had a nice Christmas. I love what your Grand said, that is so cute.
We just finished taking down the tree and getting it put away. All of my Christmas tree decorations are down and put away and now the vacuuming then I will be ready for the New Year. OCD's Unite!!! :) I had to laugh about you not getting snow.
The forecast said 100 percent rain. WE didn't get a drop!
Well, break is over so I better get back at it.
Have a lovely day, I am so glad you had a nice Christmas.

  5. It sounds like the best kind of Christmas at your place. I had hoped to take our tree down too but have been knocked out by a cold-flu thing... yuck! Maybe tomorrow if I feel up to it. Happy New year!

  6. Hi there, WE did get a few inches of snow and really cold weather. I think our weather was headed to your area-at least that is what the news said last night. Usually I take our tree/decorations down the day after Christmas but this year I'll leave it up til Monday. The house has looked so nice, I love all our collections. We had a great day with family and got some lovely things. Although we weren't supposed to get anything for each other we did...but I know we'll enjoy what we got.
    Have a warm evening.
    Hugs, Noreen

  8. Meteorologist were wrong and so were the Myans. LOL
My tree comes down after New Years. We have a traditional New Years Eve party, so I don't like to take the tree down until the day after.
I'm pretty sure my MIL gets Quiltmaker magazine. She has an app on her iPad for quilt patterns too.

  9. Well, it snowed all around us but is just cold, cold here and damp. I'm about to freeze!

I got my inside decor down and am hoping it warms up a little before I have to take down the outside.

I don't do after Christmas sales either. Just not worth it! Well, I did pick up some 1/2 price stuff at Wal-Mart today but I didn't go for that reason.

    Happy New Year!

  10. There's rarely, if ever, a chance of snow in these parts. But how I would LOVE it if it did happen! We had snow on Christmas in 1989- it was the Christmas after Hurricane Hugo-the snow covered all of the debris. It was truly a gift from God. I'm a little embarrassed to say how many times we watched several Christmas movies this season- so twice is perfectly acceptable. LOL

  11. Oh I HATE it when this happens. Those dastardly meteorologists anyway! Round our house we LOVE snow - - - so when they start hyping a storm we get our hopes up, only to have them dashed to the ground.

Now it's even worse - - - now they throw around the term "blizzard" like they happen every other week. AND they are even NAMING the winter storms.

I just want some good regular snow storms and enough cold weather to freeze up the lakes and keep them that way for ice fishing.

No, not that I myself ice fish, but it SHOULD be happening 'round here and we need enough cold to enable it.

Yes, we have about 8 inches of snow on the ground - - - but we need MORE and MORE and MORE.

  12. And about taking down my Christmas decor - - - NOT UNTIL AT LEAST AFTER THE BSC NATIONAL TITLE BOWL GAME. I do try to get it down by Valentine's day, but no promises.

I enjoy it - - - so what's the hurry? Goodness, A LOT of people have it all up BEFORE Thanksgiving, so why can't I have it up for a month AFTER the fact????? Hmmmmm??? ;-)

  13. Sounds like a great relaxing Christmas Day! I wonder how the weather people come up with their forecasts; they are right about 50% of the time, but I guess it is an art trying to figure it all out :)

I'm with you; not much of a shopper the day after the holidays; I'm sure the malls were packed though!

  14. We don't actually get weather forecasts here, because we're just a little too far away from the city. So we just have to poke our noses out, and see what we're getting. Well, this year we actually had snow here, it really was white out there and when we got to our family closer to the city, there was none! Sorry you didn't get your promised white! But sounds like you had a lovely day! That peace and quiet actually gives more time to reflect on the real meaning of the day - and kudos to T#3, he knows what it's all about!

I am SO glad you stopped by! No proving that you're a robot here ... I want to hear what you have to say! ;-)
