Saturday was a quiet day spent at home. I spent the afternoon trimming the excess fabrics on my hexagons. Here's just a little bit of what I was able to accomplish ... the hexies in the center are untrimmed, the ones on the left are trimmed, and that's my little pile of trimmings on the right. ;-)
I can't stitch, so I thought that perhaps I could at least make some kind of progress with the hexagon project. Even though I still long to spend time with my needle and thread, my spirits were lifted to at least make some progress. ;-) We watched the World Series that evening ... wow, was that a dramatic ending to the game. I've been a Cardinals fan for at least 55 years, and I've never seen nor heard of a play like that, let alone one that ended/decided the game! :-o

After church Sunday, we stopped by DD's (they went out of town to visit DSIL's sister) only to be greeted by blaring smoke detectors - every. single. one. Not being the least bit mechanical, DH and I tried a number of different "remedies". We tried replacing the batteries, we tried turning off every circuit breaker (except the furnace and the refrigerator), we tried removing the batteries ... all to no avail. Finally after some consultation via text with DD, we concluded that the best idea was to disconnect the detectors (they're also hard wired). Thankfully we only had to disconnect 4 of their detectors - and were able to discover what DD suspected: the detectors have exceeded their "life expectancies" so it's time to replace them anyway. By the time we finished up, it was almost the middle of the afternoon so we stopped at Panera for lunch/dinner. After my success with scissors on Saturday, I had hopes that I might be able to figure out how to baste my hexies without using my index finger - I had tried before but couldn't seem to get the hang of it without using my index finger. This time I actually developed a fairly decent rhythm and might have been able to get several hexies basted, except I noticed that it caused a bit of a flare up of my finger, so I had to stop. :-( Alas, the Cardinals didn't seem willing to take advantage of their good fortune from Sarurday night and lost Sunday night's game.
Have a marvelous Monday!
Kathy
I am so sorry you are still having problems with your finger. I hope that gets resolved soon.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed that the Cards lost last night. I have been a Cardinal fan since I was a small girl.
Both of the weekend games had amazing endings, but Saturday's was something I have never heard of before.
ReplyDeleteAt least the alarms did not signal a serious problem.
So sorry about not being able to sew, I know with my carpel tunnel how I just get so sad when I can't even use anything and hardly can hold a book. I feel like I am wasting such valuable time. I am so sorry about your Dad. We just went through that with our smoke alarms too. If they get dusty they will do that as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a fantastic week.
I hope your Dad is okay, and will be better soon. Perhaps he was just having a 'bad day'. We noticed Ed's mom having more of those, as time wore on.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't imagine dealing with four raging smoke detectors at once!!! Glad you got it figured out!
Have a great week!
Good morning! Sorry your dad is having some trouble, always hard I know. Those smoke detectors drive me wild sometimes. Ours go off sometimes from the steam in my iron! On the other hand, they did alert us that one time to a small fire in our kitchen too! Soo they are worth the annoyance. How frustrating on your poor finger, but at least you were able to make some progress! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteOh, those blaring alarms are so frustrating! It's hard to even figure out what to do with all that noise. Glad you were able to get it fixed!
ReplyDeleteOur smoke detectors are hard wired too and we had to disconnect one of them. Every time the power goes out we seem to have one of them beeping telling us it's time to change the battery. Dogs go crazy and hide! However we know they are definitely life savers.....
ReplyDeleteHi there, Reading about the smoke detectors made me think it was a spider or dust that triggered them going off. Glad it wasn't a fire.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great day!
Hugs, Noreen
Yikes. I hate when the alarms go off. Glad you came up with a solution. Sounds like it hit the 10 year. Lifespan. Take it easy with that finger.
ReplyDeleteWe had to replace all of ours not long after moving in. Of course the new ones have holes in different places on the backs, so we had to spackle and redrill. Ugh. Sorry about your Cards!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard not to quilt, isn't it! Just try to be patient...maybe tomorrow will be a better day for quilting! Your hexes are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteStill sending prayers and good wishes your way for your finger! Sounds like you are working out a rhythm and will be stitching soon :*) What a mess with the alarms! It sounds like a crazy time. I hate it when ours start chirping - I can't imagine all of them going off at once!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your finger and that your Cards aren't doing so well! Glad you have figured out a way of accomplishing something. Hope your dad was just having a bad day and is feeling more "frisky"!
