I rarely use my laptop any more ... it's just too convenient to check Facebook or email from my iPad. I mostly use my laptop for Quicken (checkbook register), to use spreadsheets, to check emails that I've saved over the years, etc. My ISP's mobile mail server wasn't responding this morning, so I thought I'd check my emails on my laptop. But I booted it up, I discovered that my battery was draining ... I checked the connections, unplugged/replugged the power cord, and rebooted the laptop ... to no avail. I was sure that the power cord had gone bad ... so I searched Dell's website to find the proper replacement power cord (I had to determine what model I had, and after some searching, I found a service number conversion chart - whew). $90 for a replacement cord!!! I told myself that would be cheaper than a new laptop ... while I rarely use my laptop, I'm not prepared to do without one completely as I still use several programs that will only run on a PC. For some reason I decided to check my iPad's power status (it's plugged into the same power outlet) ... it wasn't charging either. Hmmm ... maybe the outlet or the wiring to it was faulty ... which caused me to remember that the outlet on the other side of the island has a GFCI breaker ... and sure enough, it had tripped. All I had to do was push a button, and power was restored to our island! All that time, fretting and frustration for nothing. Not the start to my morning that I would have liked.
I can only hope that the rest of my day will go better ...
I was able to move my hoop yesterday on my Storm at Sea. It's slow going, but then hand quilting isn't the fastest way to complete a quilt ... although it's the only way for me. ;-) So far, quilting doesn't appear to be causing any problems with my finger. It's still not healed completely yet, but I certainly have seen a lot of improvement since the problem first appeared. My doctor said that nerves heal very, very slowly, so I shouldn't be too impatient. (Easier said than done - ha!).
My plan for today is to work on the Christmas ornaments ... miniature pineapple blocks sewn up in green and red. There's a nice big window in the sewing room ... I'm hoping that I'll be able to watch snow falling while sewing the ornaments ... good way to really get into the Christmas spirit ... and a good way to end a day that didn't start as well as I would have liked! ;-)

Good morning! Well even though that was an annoying way to start your morning, thank goodness you figured out the problem before you spent the 90 dollars uselessly, haha. I am sooo curious to see your ornaments! Hopefully you can post some soon. And sewing while is snows? Sounds wonderful to me...ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteSO glad you figured out the problem BEFORE shopping this morning! Can't wait to see your Christmas ornaments - be sure to share! I think we are in between two storm systems so doesn't look like we'll have any snow today. ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteNo snow here for which I am very thankful.
ReplyDeleteI love my iPad two and depend on it more and more for email, etc.
I practically do everything from my iPad...blog, Facebook, Instagram, e-mail, etc. Sorry you encountered some "glitches" this morning. Enjoy your snow and stay warm...73 degrees and balmy here. Much too warm for Christmas! Be sure to enter my giveaway today! :)
ReplyDeleteOH I do hope you get to sit and watch snow and quilt. What a wonderful day. I went out and walked around and fed chickens and that stuff and it is 22 right now. I didn't stay out too long. I love that the cold makes it seem like Christmas. I am so glad that it wasn't your computer.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.
Oh, dear, how frustrating! But glad you found the problem, and saved yourself the bucks. We were promised snow last night, but I think the wind blew it all away or something - sure howled all night! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteHoping your day gets better from now on! Don't you love it when you figure out a solution that costs nothing? Enjoy your sewing today and maybe it will snow for you :*)
ReplyDeleteI'm getting a tablet for Christmas & I think I'll only use my laptop for photo editing after that
ReplyDeleteTechnology problems-so frustrating! Wondering if you got the snow on the second go around. We probably have two inches in our end of the county-not exactly the 4-7 that were predicted. I'm fine with that though! Hope you are getting a lot of your projects crossed off the list!
ReplyDeleteSnow? Not around here. It's in the upper 70s and my Christmas spirit is suffering. So glad you were able to put two and two together on the power cord!
ReplyDeleteMy day got off to a rough start too. Think barefeet and a dog with an upset stomach-ugh! I hope you got your lovely snow! We may get some here tonite, but I'm hoping not. Our tiny town football team has made it all the way to the state championship, which is tomorrow. They're playing on the Giant's field and are so excited. I'm sure snow wouldn't spoil it ,but brrrrr.
ReplyDeleteGlad your finger is tolerating hand quilting enough for a hoop move! That is awesome :) Hope you get enough snow today if you haven't already. As for me... I will sit this one out as I lounge in shorts and short sleeves on my back Florida room :) Kathi
ReplyDeleteWell, thankfully it isn't snowing here but it is so, so cold and Hubby and I are both bundled up with our throws. They are saying a icy mist for in the morning and that will likely put our whole city to a halt. We are in no way prepared for any icey conditions here and the whole city comes to an abrupt halt.
ReplyDeleteHope you get your snow and can enjoy stitching away while watching it fall.
Christmas blessings!
