My plan for Tuesday was to quilt … but as is so often the case in my life, my plans changed. DD called and invited me to join her and the Ts at the nearby water park. By the time I got home, I barely had enough energy to prepare dinner, let alone quilt.
So Wednesday was to be quilting day … and I did get in several hours of quilting. I realized that I hadn’t taken a picture of the entire quilt to share, so when I moved the hoop, I thought to take a picture.
I couldn’t get the entire quilt in the picture … I didn’t have enough room to get it all in the viewfinder, not to mention I don’t have enough floor space for a 99.5” x 99.5” quilt!
Because I was gone Tuesday, I called Moda yesterday … and had a very nice conversation with their rep. She offered to send 7 yards of extra wide fabric from the Primitive Gatherings line. And I’m using Primitive Gatherings fabric for T#1’s quilt and I’ll be using more for the pineapple quilt that I have kitted up … so I’m sure I’ll find a use for that backing fabric. So while I would have rather had backing that didn’t shrink, I have to say that I’m pleased with how Fatquartershop.com and Moda have ultimately handled this.
This afternoon, we’ve got an appointment with a closet company to discuss storage for the closet in my sewing room. Right now I’m leaning toward something fairly simple like adjustable shelving so I have the flexibility to store whatever sized containers I choose and to be able to go back to hanging clothes if I wish/need to.
A bloggy friend has got a fundraising giveaway going on … Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict is giving away 4 quilts (yes, that’s 4 quilts for 4 winners!!) … as part of a fundraising effort to bring her new grandson home from China … you can read all about it here or here. If you have a soft spot for little ones who need a family, perhaps you can help her family make that a reality for Nathanael.
We didn’t get any of the rain in yesterday’s forecast … we could have really used some. But we did get the cool front that was to follow the rain … it was still in the 50’s when Lois and I set out to walk this morning. Brrrrr I put on a sweatshirt … and could have used another layer!
Have a fabulous Thursday!
Kathy
The quilt is going to be beautiful. I am so glad you got a satisfactory resolution to the backing problem.
ReplyDelete50's sound so good for walking - I love sweatshirts and so looking forward to going to the northern states soon - hiking in the mountains is so nice!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny that in mid winter 50's for walking sounds so warm but in the summer it is downright chilly? The quilt is beautiful. I can't believe how much quilting you get done so quickly.
ReplyDeleteWe need rain too... just not Saturday - I have a wedding to photograph :)
ReplyDeleteThat quilt. I want!!!!
We almost got an inch of rain yesterday evening. We needed it too, so it was very welcome. Glad to hear that Moda came thru for you. Your quilt makes me want to start mine, but too many others in the fire. I really enjoyed my morning hour of quilting this morning. I was trying to watch an episode of Bomb Girls on Netflix but the sound of the thread running thru the fabric kept distracting me. So I turned it off and just sat and stitched with the sound of the pendulum wall clock and the needle and thread, so lovely.

ReplyDeleteYou are making great progress on quilting! I guess that is something as far as Moda is concerned. I will definitely have to keep that 10% shrinkage in mind if I buy their backing fabric! Sounds like the water park was lots of fun. I look forwrd to seeing what you decide on for your closet.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt and so glad things are working smoothly on a resolution.
ReplyDeleteWe have a cool front coming in next week and we can hardly wait.
Happy weekend!
Good for Moda as we all know they have quality fabric. You are coming along nicely on DDs quilt. How wonderful to maybe have professional storage help for sewing area.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that Moda offered to try to make things right for you! When there are problems with a product it is important to contact customer service and ask them to make things right.
ReplyDeleteThe chevron quilt is looking great!
You have done a beautiful job on that quilt. I think it is so lovely. I bet you were tired after a water park trip. It sounds nice though.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have that kind of cool weather. July is moving right along isn't it? Have a wonderful weekend.
I think it's exciting that you get some custom work done in your quilting closet! You are one busy lady.
ReplyDeleteGood morning! Some how I missed this. Still trying to catch up on my blogging. I am glad to hear that Moda stepped up and did what they did. That sounded pretty good! Yes, I am still sure you would have rather the fabric didn't shrink, but this was a good compensation. It is soo nice! Your daughter is going to be thrilled. I started back up yesterday (a little bit) to working on my HST quilt that is to be for a wedding gift. I got a ruler to square up HST's and it is REALLY helping. Enjoy your week-end!
