This n That on a Thursday

It’s been a pretty busy 4 days since I last posted.  I’m not sure that the next 4 days will much quieter.  Winking smile

We were feeling pretty lazy Sunday morning and were toying with the idea of making it a stay-at-home-in-our-PJs kind of day … but at the last minute, we decided to get dressed and get to church that morning.  DSIL reported that DD was going to be heading back home within the hour and suggested that we spend the day with them.  Red heart  Because it was last-minute, we didn’t do anything fancy … grabbed some BBQ carryout for lunch, played some games, watched a movie … a pretty wonderful day.

Tuesday I had a doctor’s appointment, got my foot x-rayed (still waiting on results … suspecting a stress fracture), spent the afternoon watching the Ts while DD was in class, and watched T#1 break his swim team’s record for the 50 Fly (a record that’d been held for 25 years) at that evening’s swim meet.

Yesterday we had the Ts here for the day so their Mama could study for her exams.  I surely thought there was a full moon yesterday because there was some grumbling and fussing at each other that morning … thankfully they were in better spirits after lunch.

We picked our first cucumber Monday IMG_1721… and our second yesterday.  Too bad our tomatoes aren’t ripe … a cucumber salad would be mighty tasty.

And speaking of firsts, we had our first locally grown sweet corn yesterday … yum!  I do believe that I could make a meal out of cucumber salad and sweet corn.  Open-mouthed smile

I haven’t had much time with my needle and thread the last couple of days, but I hope to be able to spend a nice chunk of time with them today … until it’s time to head to tonight’s swim meet.  I’ll take my EPP project with me, although with T#2 swimming again, there isn’t much down time once the meet begins … but since we like to get to the meets early so we can get good seats (and so we can watch them warm up), there should be some stitching time before the meet starts. quilting

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy ... have a great day!
Kathy

  1. Congratulations to the record breaker! I do hope that your x-rays show nothing.

We had our first BLT from the garden tomatoes this week - heavenly! I agree with you. I could make a meal with the sweet corn.

  2. I am searching my brain [a frightening thought!] to remember what happened to your foot?! Hopefully all is well. WOW! On that record breaker...good job! Did I miss too what you daughter is testing for? Goodness I am not doing well as a blogging buddy.... Oh how I love cucumber/tomato salad...especially with home grown veggies....just doesn't get a lot better and I too could eat it all day! I am back making some rompers for Miss Claire...we've moved up a pattern size, lol. They are soo quick and easy. I wouldn't want them all the same pattern, but Mel loves it and she buys the fabric so I am all over it. I am getting ready to start another quilt finally....it's been a while. My niece is getting married. Have a good day and rest of your week!

  3. I hope there is no fracture I don't remember you mentioning a sore foot - my little sister had a stress fracture in her foot a couple years ago - she waited forever to go to the doctor and ended up in a walking cast for six months while it took it's time to heal.
the gardens are slow - mine is taking off now I think.

  4. Congrats to T#1 on the record! I have one queen sized quilt that I always think of as the gymnastics quilt because it was all pieced while waiting for the kids during their classes. :)

I think sometimes when you're not 'fancy' & you just go with it, its always the best. :)

  8. I love cucumber salad. It is just the best to eat on a hot day. I hope you get tomatoes soon.
Wow that is awesome your grandson broke that record. That is so exciting.
I hope you find out what is wrong with your foot and that it isn't a fracture. So is it still bothering you?
I hope you get to have a nice quiet day.

  9. Finally gave up on planting a garden this year (for the first time in almost 30 years of gardening), but your fresh cucumber is making my mouth water.
Hope there is nothing seriously wrong with your foot.

  10. Your making my mouth water talking about home grown sweet corn. I spent many a summer sacking sweetcorn on a truck farm in NE Illinois. Those ears are so yummy straight out of the field and into the pot. Hope you get good news about your foot and if not that is heals quickly.

  13. Congrats to T#1!!! That is so awesome! Daddy's cucumbers have just started coming in; he's dealing with some dry-rot for his tomatoes that he has on his deck, but he has a row of plants in the garden so he should be okay. He put lime on the deck tomatoes, but it doesn't seem to be helping that much.

  14. Oh I hope your foot is okay. Congratulations to T#1 on the record breaking swim, you have to be tickled about that. We got our first sweet corn about a week ago, I'm like you, I could make a meal out of corn and cucumber salad....actually in the summer i could make a meal out of any fresh veggie available. Hope you have a nice weekend

Last summer I discovered this recipe using sweet corn:

I just loved it! Can't wait to make it again this summer.
