My Daybook

Outside my window... The sun is shining, there’s not a cloud in the sky, and there’s just a hint of a breeze.

I am thinking... There’s something else going on with my arm.  While the infection (from the diagnosed bug bite) seems to be clearing, I’ve still got the rash/blistering … including an area on my other arm that developed in the last couple of days.

I am thankful... For my hubby.  He has his flaws, but then so do I … and he puts up with me and all my flaws, for which I’m so thankful.  Seriously, he is a gift from God, and not a day goes by that I’m not thankful that He brought us together.

In the kitchen... There are dishes from last night that have finished air-drying and are ready to be put away.

I am wearing... A T-shirt from our trip to Charleston 3 years ago and capris.

I am wondering... If it will ever rain again.  <sigh>  I read online this morning that it would take almost 10” of rain for the drought we’re in to end.

I am reading... Arresting Grace by Michael Joel Green.

I am looking forward to... Our trip to the Outer Banks in September.  I’m pining for some beach time and cannot wait.

I am learning... That grace is easy to receive, not so easy to extend.  Our small group is doing a study on What’s So Amazing about Grace by Philip Yancey, and the book that I’m ready (see above) is a story of one man’s encounter with grace.

Around the house... It’s been a quiet week.  After a couple of busy weeks, it feels good to have some “down” time.

I am pondering... What quilt pattern to make next.  I think I’m going to go with a Storm at Sea quilt … I’ve always wanted to make one.  Here’s an example of one from a quilt show I attended last summer; I’m going to make a smaller one – a wall hanging.  Quilt Show 7

A favorite quote for today... Faith is a living, daring confidence in God's grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times. ~ Martin Luther

One of my favorite things... Right now … watermelon.  No homegrown watermelons yet … although with this heat and this drought, I wonder if we’ll even get any good homegrown watermelons this summer.

A few plans for the rest of the week: There aren’t any plans for the rest of the week – yet.

A peek into my day... I have a hair cut appointment for this afternoon.  I’ve also got to get caught up on laundry. And of course, I plan to spend some time with my needle and thread.  Winking smile

We had a quiet 4th here.  It was too hot to do anything outdoors, and there was an NCIS marathon on USA Network … a perfect day for quilting.  Winking smile

I know … it seems like all I talk about is the weather. I’m not alone … it seems like everyone’s focus is on the weather …  no surprise given how hot and dry it’s been. I heard an interesting factoid on the news last night … we’ve had 18 record highs so far this year, and it would appear that we’re not done … if we reach the forecasted highs for today and tomorrow, we’ll set 2 more record highs. At least there appears to be a chance for some rain this weekend, although I’m not too optimistic that it will materialize … it’s a 30% chance of rain, which in these parts generally turns out to be a 0% chance.

  2. I like your daybook entry. Your arm isn't better? Are you going to go to the doctor? You can talk about the weather all you want, I love weather. This morning is was 60 percent humidity. I look like I have been swimming in my clothes. Our temps are going up now and will stay between 100-110 from now until Halloween. This is when summer starts to take its toll on me.
Always after the 4th. Except for us yesterday was so hot.
I felt like bug under a microscope.
I like your new quilt pattern. I have never seen that pattern before.
I hope your arm gets better.
    Bye for now,
    Kim

  3. Your weather forecast looks similar to ours. They are predicting rain here too- today maybe, tomorrow, maybe...the next day...I'll believe it when I see it. And I might even go out and dance in it! LOL Is there a story behind the naming of quilt patterns? I'm sure whatever you decided to do next, it will be beautiful. Hope your arm clears up soon!

  4. Hi! I am so far behind in my blogging visiting, but I am hoping to catch up some today. I hadn't heard about your problem with your arm. If it is moving to the other arm, doesn't sound like an infected bite huh? Your study on grace sounds good. I LOVE the new quilt pattern. 107 today sounds WAY too hot! Mercy....Me had a very mild 4th of July. I think our high was 80. However some much warmer weather is apparently on it's way...sigh. I will confess, hot weather is NOT my cup of tea. Enjoy the rest of your day...

  5. I love the day book too! I would sure go back to the doctor with the arm and be sure to show them the other arm.....it may just be something different than a bite. It's been very, very quiet around here since we've both been sick. Poor hubs went back to work for a few hours this morning, took a nap, and went back for a few this afternoon. Neither of us have ever been this sick and we hate it! I'm burned out on t.v. for sure!

Take care in the heat! It's hot here too!

  6. The more I find out about you, the more I find we have in common! NCIS is one of my favorites. In fact my neighbor loves the show too. He calls me Kate and I call him Tony. LOL!
No watermelon in my garden either. Zucchini and cucumbers are growing like crazy though. Stay cool!
