Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

Another week is coming to a close, which means it’s time again for Friday Fragments.

The wall that I’ve been hitting around dinnertime wasn’t quite as solid last night as the previous 3 nights.  I’m hoping that means that the worst of this cold is becoming a thing of the past.

And it’s not a moment too soon because I’ll have the Ts here today and will be going with to the swim meet Saturday (an all-day event about 2 hours from here).

Our small group is trying to find an evening when we can all get together for a Christmas party … I looked at my calendar, and there are only 4 evenings between now and Christmas that I can be sure that we’d be available.

Our area is still under drought conditions … the Mississippi River is so low that a WWII minesweeper that sank years and years ago is now exposed.

We’re supposed to get some rain this weekend … not enough to impact the drought, but a little rain is better than no rain, I suppose.  The rain is supposed to bring in colder weather.  Even though we’re no longer having 70+ degree days, it’s still unseasonably warm here … the low last night was the typical high temperature this time of year.  It’s just not feeling very Christmas-y without some colder weather.  And some snow would be even better!  Winking smile

I did some more quilting on my I Spy yesterday.  I’m quilting the borders, and while it’s going reasonably well, I don’t think I’m going to make my (self-imposed) Christmas deadline … not with something going on almost every single day/evening between now and Christmas.  Maybe I need to start a new tradition of giving gifts on New Year’s Day!

  1. I've read this kind of phenomenon about the country-wide drought exposing so many things....I hope this is not something that will continue for much longer.

A two hour drive? Oh boy...drive with care. And enjoy.

  2. I think I caught your cold! Not the way I'd like to spend my weekend. :(
Our small group would get together for a New Years Eve party since there were too many family obligations for Christmas. We all had small children at the time, so it worked for us.
    Have fun with the Ts.

  3. This seems to be a big season for flu and colds. Our household was hit by it big time this week. Hope you are feeling better.

  5. Okay, that's kind of cool about the minesweeper being exposed, but not the drought! I'm ready for Christmas-y weather, too! Bet your sinuses get cleared out at the swim meet! (take kleenexes!)

  8. It's 24 degrees up here today!!! I know we live in an area where is't suppose to be cold, but I don't do well in the cold. No snow so that is good!!! Hope you feel better, sounds like you have a long day ahead. Have a good weekend.

  9. It's supposed to rain up here in Chicago today, but it's in the 40s. I really hope we'll have snow for Christmas!

    Feel better :)

  10. It still is not very cool here either. Now of course So. California is never all that cold, but we at least have days in the 50's or low 60's. We are still hitting the 70's everyday. Really actually pretty weather I guess, but I want to feel the need for a sweater or something, haha. Enjoy your week-end!

  11. We are not exactly in a drought now - we are short of rain this year - but GA has been in a drought and drought condition for some 10 to 15 years.

I hope you get some rain.

  12. I do hope the worst is over with the cold. This is a bad time of the year to not be on top of your game.

  13. We are in a drought too but we don't have any chances of rain. The pond near my house is dried up. I'm not sure what the cattle who use it are doing now for water.

  14. The drought situation is really bad here too. We had a bit of rain last night, but not enough to help.

I hope you feel better soon.

  15. So glad your cold is better! Especially with keeping the kids and a two hour drive (both ways)....

We have drought conditions here too and it's sad because all the lakes and ponds are so low.

It's very warm here and you're right, it doesn't feel much like Christmas!

  16. Happy Friday to you. No wonder you've been sick with a cold-you are burning the candle at both ends. I stocked up on Herbal Throat Spray when I was at our Whole Foods, just in case. Have a wonderful weekend-we are supposed to get a little snow. Hugs tonight.

  18. that must be really low to be able to see that. I am so sorry that it hasn't felt like Christmas yet. We finally have cold and fog today so for me it feels just right. It sounds like you will be busy this weekend. I just found a quilt pattern I wish I had time to do before Christmas.
It ain't gonna happen now though.
Have a nice weekend and I hope you feel better.

  19. Oh wow, quilt gifts just rock, no matter when they are done!!!

I knew the Midwest drought was bad, but exposing sunken ships sounds scary!!

I hope you fully recover soon. Colds have been nasty this year!

Every time someone counts down to Christmas, I feel nervous. I am just not prepared this year!!!

  20. Well, the day we leave it's suppose to be in the 30's here but of course, it will be very, very frigid in the early mornings in Kansas. The a/c is running today. No wonder we're all sick.

    Happy weekend!
