Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's Wednesday again ... which means that it's time for some Hodgepodge fun!  What a fabulous and fun way to learn a little more about each other ... why not join in?  Just click on the button above!

1.What makes love last?
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. ~ 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

2. The Beatles made their US debut fifty years ago this week. Are you a fan? If so, what's your favorite Beatles tune?
I wouldn't say that I'm a fan, although I did enjoy and still do enjoy the Beatles' earlier music; I really didn't (and still don't) care for their later works.

3. Valentine's Day-your thoughts? Do you celebrate in any way? Do anything special for the people you love? Expect anything special from the people who love you?
I always gave DD a special gift (often a stuffed animal - she loved stuffed animals) for Valentine's Day when she was growing up, and now I give my grands something nice for Valentine's Day. This year, I'm planning on giving them each a Big Joe.  DH and I exchange cards, and occasionally we'll go out for dinner but it's not that big of a deal for us ... he's such a sweetie all year long ... I don't need him to do something special on one specific pre-determined day.  And I think he's secretly relieved since neither one of us will forget our first Valentine's Day ... we'd been married 2 months and had just moved into a two-story house.  His gift for me was a Dust Buster (handheld vacuum) ... he really didn't understand why I was not pleased with his gift ... not that I didn't appreciate the Dust Buster (for vacuuming those stairs), but not as a gift on a day honoring love.  ;-)

4. Steak or burger...you have to choose. Now that that's settled, how do you like it?
This is a no-brainer. Give me a steak ... medium rare please. Yum!

5. The Hodgepodge lands on the birthdate (February 12th) of Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States of America. Lincoln is quoted as saying, 'Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test his character give him power.'  Do you agree? Why or why not?
I would say that how one handles power would certainly reveal one's character.
6. Honest Abe's image is featured on the US penny (1 cent coin) so I'm wondering...what do you do with your pennies (or your country's equivalent)?  It's been suggested the US stop making the penny, and two bills have been introduced proposing just that, but neither were approved. What say you?
I save - and spend - my pennies.  If I see one on the ground, I pick it up ... a single penny may seem to have very little value, but it only takes a few to add up to real value. My only question about discontinuing the penny is how will we handle payments that include odd cents ... no matter what the price of something is, by the time tax is added, the cost is more than likely not going to be a nice, round number.

7.  Do you think pop culture deserves serious study?
No, not really.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm looking forward to this afternoon's Olympic coverage ... US vs Canada in women's hockey.  Gold medal preview??

  1. A dust buster on Valentine might have upset me too back in the day. Of course, this year we got our new phones and are considering them our 25th anniversary gift (which is next week). So yeah, I guess I've gotten over that a little. haha

  2. I understand completely about the dust buster :) I once got a set of stainless steel mixing bowls...

I didn't like the Beatles later music either.

As for your answer to #1, I almost used the same Bible passage!

  4. Hey, Kathy! I love the Winter Olympics! I was so pulling for Shaun White on the ski boarding competition, but it just wasn't meant to be. Felt so bad for him...he's such an awesome athlete!

  7. It's just after 3:00 pm; I didn't realize the Olympics had afternoon coverage, so I just turned it on!
Dust buster, huh??? After being married for just 2 months, I would've been a little upset, too!

  9. We don't do a lot on Valentine's Day either. More fun to celebrate all year! We got up early this AM and watched the US Women play Canada in hockey. I do enjoy that sport. ~Jeanne

  16. Love the Beatles, early and later stuff! I definitely believe that power can tests one's character , just look at our government right now. Some real characters don't you think? LOL
I am enjoying the Olympics! But hate that the media thinks it is their job to critique all the short comings. I think the focus should be on the amazing athletes and their successes.
We don't exchange gifts either cause we appreciate our needs every day of the year.

  18. Oh, give me a burger any time - haven't found a restaurant yet that can cook a steak well done without burning it! Besides, just too much work to chew through a steak!
