Weekend Musings

As I mentioned Thursday, we had severe thunderstorms move through the area.  Any time we get unseasonably warm temperatures (like the 74 degrees we got Thursday), we know to expect bad weather.  And we were not “disappointed” Thursday, although the storms weren’t the culprit this time … it was the strong winds that followed on the heels of the thunderstorms.  Places in our area reported winds as high as 60+ mph.  Surprised smile  Needless to say there was plenty of damage caused by those winds.  DD’s neighbor’s freestanding pergola was toppled, landing just inches from one of DD’s landscaping beds.  On my drive home yesterday, I saw several trees that had been uprooted.  And there was damage here in our neighborhood.  One neighbor will need a new roof.

Another will need to have the ceiling fan on their deck repaired/replaced.

I feel that I need to clarify something else I mentioned on Thursday ... I wasn't complaining one little bit about my busyness keeping me from spending time doing what I wanted when I wanted.  As much as I love working with needle and thread, it doesn't even begin to come close to bringing me as much joy as spending time with DD and my Ts!!    So I gladly give up stitching time in order to have some T-time!

My weekend plans have certainly changed!  I had planned to watch the USA men’s hockey team play Sunday morning … instead I’ll be watching them play today … for bronze instead of gold.  Sad smile  It’s hard to believe that the Olympics are almost over … I’m already looking forward to the 2016 summer games … all the more because we have swimmers in the family now.  Winking smile

I’m sure that most of you have heard the saying “Sharing is caring” … I’m here to say maybe NOT!  At least not when it’s an upper respiratory bug that’s being shared!  Thankfully I don’t think I’ve got it quite as severely as DD and the Ts, but even a mild case is no fun.  I’m going to take it easy this weekend in hopes that I can keep this just a mild case … and can be back to normal by Monday.

In spite of my puny state, I will be spending my weekend stitching … as much as I’d like to get back to work on my Storm at Sea, I think that basting my hexies is a better choice, given the URI-induced brain fog I’m in.  Winking smile  I’ve got 13 Martha Washington’s Flower Garden blocks completed … I plan to set them in a tumbling block setting to make a lap-sized quilt … I have no idea how many blocks I need to do that … maybe next week, I’ll lay 3 blocks out on the floor to get a rough idea how big a block that creates and use it as a rough guide on how many blocks I will need.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Kathy

  1. wow some crazy weather for sure. Sorry you picked up that bug...I have had some kind of sinus infection for a couple of weeks now! Not sick enough to put me down, but sick enough to make me feel punk. I hate it...but it is what it is. Hopefully you will feel just fine by Monday. Get lots of rest, stitch away, and ENJOY the rest of the Olympics my friend!

  4. Glad the storm didn't cause damage at your place, but sorry that you are "puny"! Yes, it is a bummer that the US didn't make it to the Gold Medal game...just hoping they win the bronze! I, too, will miss the Olympics when they are over. I sure enjoy watching those amazingly gifted athletes! Take care and feel better soon!

  6. Hope you're feeling better soon. We're melting a little, so far so good, but snow is in the forecast for Wednesday. It's nice the gutters are emptying out a little. They were scary frozen, but I hear them running when I'm outside now, so this weekend should be a good break. Back to winter next week!

  7. How fortunate that you didn't get hit by that weather, personally! Hope you get well soon - the hexies sound like a perfect 'laying around' activity.

  9. Sure hope you are feeling better soon! Those winds were wicked - glad you didn't have any damage. The great part of retirement is you can always say no IF you don't want to be busy. I can't imagine being bored and I certainly know you aren't! Life is really good when we get to do the things we want! ~Jeanne

  10. Oh no you are sick? I had no idea that your family had that bug, my oldest daughter and her family have been really sick and so had the baby.
I have been so worried about them. I hope you get to rest and get better. I can't believe the wind that you get. I am glad you had a nice warm day.
So glad you have got to do some quilting.
I visited the fabric store for the first time in it seemed like years. I bought fabric too. It was such fun.
I hope you have a nice weekend in spite of being under the weather.

  11. Hi there, I'm glad you didn't have damage to your house! WE've had such strong winds too; they are early this year-normally we get them in the spring. Sorry you caught the bug that your family had-I prescribe lots of hot tea with honey and maybe some chicken soup.
    Enjoy a restful weekend.
    Hugs, Noreen

  13. I think the hockey team gave up beginning of third period and played like they were too desperate. Not a good day.
