Tuesday’s Trivialities

Summer is moving right along here at Chez Nana.

The Ts’ summer swim team had their awards banquet Sunday evening.  T#1 finished with the second highest point total overall, just 4 points behind the #1 point getter.  He also won the Hard Work Award, for going above and beyond during practices and at meets.  I’m so proud of all of them.

Our garden is still producing nicely, even though it’s not been quite hot enough this summer for the tomatoes to take off like we expected.  Considering that we have 10 tomato plants, maybe it’s just as well.  Remember the big tomato we picked last week?  We picked another … even bigger!

I’m continuing to make progress on DD’s chevron quilt.  I’m very close to having the border and outer blocks of 3 of the 4 sides finished.  I expect to get the quilting done by the end of the week … then I just need to bind it.

I had really wanted to quilt something more than just straight lines on the border, and DD agreed, asking for something geometric/angular.  I just couldn’t find any stencils that would fit the border.

Today we’re getting the storage system installed in the closet in the sewing room.  It took me a couple of hours to empty the closet.  I can’t even imagine how long it will take me to get it filled back up, considering that I didn’t even touch much of my fabric yesterday (since the majority of it is in large vinyl tubs).

I saw a school bus head past our house this morning … the local schools must be in session.  Seems like schools start earlier every year.

Have a terrific Tuesday!
Kathy

  1. adding more snow days into the calendar perhaps? Or maybe a special trip for something - it does seem early but I'm sure at home in Arkansas they will be starting by Monday. My tomatoes never did take off this year, small fruit and not a lot of them, even after we left Melanie said she has picked very few.

  2. Hope that school bus was just checking out the route! I think it is too early for traditional school to start - let kids have a summer! The swim banquet sounds exciting - isn't it wonderful to see the kids awarded for their hard work?! Enjoy those tomatoes - that latest one might be enough to invite the neighbors in for BLTs! ~Jeanne

  3. Good morning! Well first, congratulations to T#1! How well he did! And to win the hardest worker award?? Well that is the best one to win in my opinion! I can't believe how fast it seems you quilted that giant, beautiful quilt by HAND! It is going to be so pretty on her bed, and so special for her too knowing that you spent hours making it for her. I imagine your quite excited over the closet organizer...I know I would be! Yes, lots of work ahead getting it back together, but just think of how nice it will be when it is all done. My fabric FINALLY arrived yesterday afternoon so back to other quilt for me. I want to finish that one up. Enjoy your day Kathy!

  4. Congratulations to all the swimmers. I'll bet you hate to see the season end.

Your quilting is looking fabulous. I can't wait to see it all done.

You are going to love the organizers when you get everything put away.

  5. Congrats to your grandson!!! The Hand Work Award is even better than the points :) I'm sure you'll find the perfect stencil for that border - I can't believe how close you are to finishing... you go girl!!!! I had to empty my sewing closet a few months ago for the makeover - whew! What a job!!! But it was totally worth it and I love being able to walk in that closet now and put my hand on whatever it is I'm looking for :)

  7. I agree with Theresa the hard work award is better than the points! Shows that he gave it his all. You have done well with getting your daughter's quilt quilted. I know in one post you had mentioned September. You should get a hard worker award too!

  8. I agree also with others that the hard work award is something to be very proud about. I am sure his grandparents are an influence.

  12. Congratulations to T#1.... That is one huge tomato. Our tomatoes are small but we have had probably 50 already and it's still full of them. This is from the plant we cut back last year to see if it would come back! The quilt is so pretty. I bet your going to love your storage system. My friends children are in their second week of school. Way to soon! Summer is supposed to end after Labor Day.
