I got T#1's quilt finished!! I got the binding sewn on fairly quickly and had a couple of free hours Thursday afternoon and thought that I'd get a start on sewing the binding down. That went well enough that I decided that I'd get it done so I could gift it before we leave.
Ignore that dot over on the right and the poor lighting conditions ... I had to take this *late* Thursday night after I got the last stitch in and had washed and dried it. We will stop by their house this afternoon after the swim meet to give it to him.
It was a long day at the one-day retreat yesterday. (Note to self: pack the sewing room chair next time! My bottom is still sore ... thank goodness for our stadium seats ... these wooden bleachers don't look very comfortable). I didn't get as much accomplished as I'd hoped ... I don't think I had a very realistic estimation of how long it would take to make a block.
There are almost 60 strips in that 14" block. Obviously this is going to be another long-term project. ;-) I got 1 block finished and a second block almost finished (I need to sew on the final 4 corner strips). A fellow quilter has a project that is her retreat-only project ... this one may be mine.
I'm composing this on the pool deck while we're waiting for the morning session to begin. T#3 swims this morning in 4 events while the two bigs swim this afternoon. Rinse and repeat tomorrow. ;-) This is one time when I'm not frustrated at being so cold-natured ... I'm here in jeans and long-sleeved T and am quite comfortable. ;-)
I've done about all the surreptitious packing/planning I can do. DD plans to give DH her gift tomorrow ... I'm hoping to share my gift for him at the same time so we can pack up tomorrow night and be on the road early Monday morning. It looks like the "polar vortex" will only have a minimal impact on the Hilton Head weather. Even so, I won't be packing my swim suit. ;-)
I'm not sure how much blogging or blog reading I'll be doing until we get back.
I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy
What a neat block! You sure are ' packing' in a lot these last days before your vacation
ReplyDeletedarn the cold weather huh - make sure you take a warm jacket for walking on the beach in case it is windy and cold! you will need to get in a couple beach walks anyhow right! I hate hard seats to quilt in - it makes your back hurt too I think. I used to bring a chair pad with me - one that I bought at the store that can be put on kitchen chairs - it was good and thick. I recently gave up going to all my quilt groups once again though as I just do not find the women friendly so why waste my time.
ReplyDeleteCheers for a great finish, Kathy!!
ReplyDeleteI want to know about that pineapple project. Did I miss a post where you explained it? Loving what I see so far!
Hope all goes well with your surprise trip! : )
Beautiful finish Kathy! I know your T will be delighted with such a wonderful gift from your hands and talents :) Have a safe trip - hopefully the weather will be cooperative!
ReplyDeleteT#1's quilt is gorgeous! Congrats on the finish! Love your pineapple block - they are time consuming, aren't they? That would be a great retreat-only project. You wouldn't have to carry much along each time! I envy you sitting at swim meets - for my grandsons, I sit in hockey arenas. They are NOT warm! Hope all goes well with DH's surprise. Have a wonderful time and stay warm! ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteThe log cabin is wonderful but that pineapple block is absolutely gorgeous! Such beautiful blues!
