Slow Stitching Weekend
As I mentioned, T#1 is swimming a pretty important meet this weekend … the regional USA Swimming A-time Championships. Making A times means that on the 7 events for which he made A time, he ranks in the top 15% of 11-12 year old boys in our region (which includes southern Illinois and eastern Missouri … which includes St. Louis) … pretty impressive, if I do say so myself (I’ll be honest and tell you that I am totally biased when it comes to my Ts). And I have to say that he did not disappoint his proud-as-could-be grandparents! He was ranked 16th for his 200 IM Friday evening and dropped 10+ seconds off his personal best to finish 5th! Here he’s swimming the breast and then the free (forgive the blurriness … I didn’t think to grab my camera … all I had was my iPhone).
Saturday morning he finished better than seeded and dropped time on all 3 events he swam, even qualifying for the finals this evening in his 100 fly (he was seeded 13th and finished 6th). We couldn’t be prouder of him.
He’s got 3 more events tomorrow, including the 50 fly, his strongest event, where he’s seeded 6th.
Like I said, this is a slow stitching weekend. Warm-ups at the meet start about an hour and a half before the first event and T#1 swims in just 3 of the approximately 30 events each day. That means there’s a lot of sitting and waiting … perfect time to work on some hexies!
And of course, we have some down time here at home (one of the benefits of the new Aquatic Complex built in the nearby small city … we’re only 20 minutes away, so we can go back home to crash), so I’ll be continuing to work on my hexies while I watch the first two periods of the hockey game before we head back for the finals tonight.
Rinse and repeat tomorrow.
I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

I too am getting in some sewing in between house cleaning - all that dust has to be cleaned up from kitchen/dining room construction - it won't be totally done for Thanksgiving but over all most of it - mainly trim work and varnish left to do and we can do that after company leaves - good idea to bring your hexies with you for in between grandchildren's swim meets nice you are so close by too.
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are some great time drops! I was a competitive swimmer from elementary school all the through college so my parents and grandparents have spent countless hours in the bleachers at the pool :) My grandmother used to knit while waiting for our events. So special that you can attend and cheer him on!
ReplyDeleteYou are a good, supportive grandma. I hope you can get lots of hexies done while you wait. : )
ReplyDeleteHow nice that it is so close to your home. He is really doing well swimming. I can tell you are so proud of him.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun it is to be able to watch them compete while you are getting some stitching done too.
ReplyDeleteWay to go T #1. And, I know it means a lot to have your support.
ReplyDeleteAnd, killing two birds with one stone is awesome. Stitching and watching T#1 compete. Two of your favorite things to do.
Continue enjoying your weekend!
Wow! Very impressive! And how fun for you to see and cheer him on. And getting some stitching in too? Well it doesn't get much better!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful way to spend the weekend!
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you are a proud grandmother! :)
ReplyDeleteYou have a right to be proud! Hope swimming went well last night. Enjoy the events today! It is a blessing to watch our grandkids do things they enjoy. Have a wonderful day! ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteWow! You should be very proud of your T's! So good to see our youth having goals and dreams. Enjoy those hexies today!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to spend your waiting time!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the swimming! And congrats to Grandma for being such a devoted fan. I see lots of hexies in your future.
ReplyDeleteWow - of course you are proud of your T#1 - that's amazing to be that good in his sport! And I know how fun it is to watch them compete. My son played many sports and was really good at soccer and baseball. I had the pleasure of watching my grandson play in his first basketball game the other night - he looked so much like his father at that age :) Enjoy your stitching and time with grandbabies!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to T#1. It is always great to have your best times at a meet. Enjoy watching and stitching.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have a good system down so you keep moving forward on your projects. I love the striped paper clips!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your T!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very dedicated kid! Wonderful to see.:) Great to have handwork ready for the slow times too.
ReplyDeleteYou must be so proud of T and he must be just bursting with pride - 10+ seconds off his PB? That's pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteAs for the hexies, it is always a good time to work on hexies!
Congrats to your grandson!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the grandson! I am slow stitching EPP, too. Great portable project.
