Sleep Is Overrated

Or at least you’d think so here at Chez Nana.  Once again insomnia has reared its ugly head.  DH and I retired at our usual bedtime, and I fell right to sleep … only to wake up at 1:00-ish.  After 40 minutes of trying to fall back to sleep, I gave up and got up.  Was I productive with that “extra” time, you ask?  Alas, instead of working on DH’s quilt, I spent my time online … catching up on emails, blogs, Facebook … and playing a game or two as well as FB messaging with DD who is still up (I don’t think she’s been to bed yet … I’m hoping she’ll be able to grab a couple of hours of sleep before she has to rouse the Ts for swim practice this morning).  I suspect it will be a hot mess over at her house today because today is Cookie Baking Day!  And both of the bakers are operating on very little sleep.  Surprised smile  I foresee plenty of Advil and caffeine being consumed today.

I did get a fair amount of quilting accomplished yesterday.  If I recall correctly, I’m almost done with block #18.  Slow and steady wins the hand quilting race.  Winking smile

It’s hard to believe that we’re now just 3 days away from Christmas … wasn’t Thanksgiving just last week?  I have two gifts to wrap and need to pick up a gift card from Walmart for my dad … then I will be ready for Christmas.

There’s still snow in the forecast for Christmas Eve … with even a bit of accumulation (not much … maybe an inch?).  Since we’ll be having our Christmas with DD and her family that day, I’m definitely looking forward to some snow.

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  1. Oh my goodness....I am not one who functions well without sleep. I am a VERY early riser...(between 5:15 and 5:45 every day!) and that happens no matter what time I go to bed so I try my best to go no later then 10. I am often in snooze land by 9:30! lol...drives my kids wild, but I don't fight it anymore. Even one night of disturbed sleep and I am a mess. So praying your days a good one even with the lack of sleep. I actually have to pick up a couple of things for hubby today. Don't know how I got all the way to the 23rd and don't have him done. I guess because he is the easiest I save him till last. Enjoy your day of baking and hopefully tonight will be a FULL night for you!

  3. My problem is falling asleep in the beginning. I usually get up after laying there for 30 minutes. Last night I got up and read FB, emails, online quilting tutorials...... It's been happening more and more frequently. Tonight I'm going to take a walk after dinner to see if that helps. I still have to wrap a couple of gifts, and make a breakfast casserole tomorrow. Other than that, I get to sew! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!

  4. I've been struggling with a reasonable sleep pattern for awhile now and people keep telling me it's part of aging. In fact if one more person says that i'm gonna whop em with my cane! :D Sound like you used your time wisely. It'll all get done. Have fun.

  5. Debbie's comment made me giggle.
Sorry about your sleeplessness. Someone needs to make sure you two don't put cups of salt in those cookies, instead of sugar. On so little sleep, it would be easy to mix things up! : )

  7. I hope it turns out to be wonderful. I really can't operate on little sleep. I hope you get time time to rest. Have a lovely day baking cookies.
How nice to have snow too. I was looking at that forecast. I just love weather,
maybe because we hardly get weather. I do think snow would be nice for Christmas though. Have a nice day.

  9. Oh, how aggravating! I go to sleep immediately and generally have a good night's sleep but occasionally I wake up around 1:30 and lay there for what seems like hours but I don't ever tire or get sleepy during the day so I think I must sleep more than I realize on those nights. Wishing you a good night's sleep and a Merry Christmas!

  10. Oh no! I hope the cookie baking went well. Some DayQuil last night and I slept great! Time for another round. No fun having a head cold when visiting cold country.
