The Calm Before the Storm and Other Randomness

Today is likely to be my last “easy” day before things get pretty busy around here.  Tomorrow will be “moving day” … not as in moving to a new house, but as in moving everything out of two rooms (one of which is my sewing room) in anticipation of carpet being laid Thursday morning.

And since things will be pretty crazy around here for the next three days, I’m putting together projects to keep me busy.  I’ve got plenty of fabric cut to work on my EPP bow ties.  I’ve got a big flat of groundcover to put in, and I’ve got our cucumbers and tomato plants and our green bean seeds ready to go into the garden.

But today I’m going to quilt.  I mentioned here that I had decided to add more stitching and was filling in areas that I’d already quilted.  I’ve finished up those areas and am now ready to start moving on to unquilted area.

I’m not sure that you can really tell much difference between now and the last picture I shared here

Today is big trash pick up day here … I always wonder if they’ll pick up our stuff.  They always have, yet I can’t help but wonder what if this time they won’t pick it up.  Eye rolling smile  Crazy, I know.  Welcome to my world.

Whatever kind of respiratory crud I’ve got this time doesn’t seem to have the same grip on me that the one I suffered through last month … and for that I am so thankful.  Even so, I’ll be glad when this is gone.

Is it really possible for “little” ones to grow several inches in just a week’s time?  (Note I use quotes for the word little, as I’m talking about my 13 y.o. grandson who is *not* little any more!)  A week ago Saturday, I had a picture taken with me and my two grandsons.  IMG_3139

(Forgive the blurry photo … it was taken with my iPhone.)  This past Saturday, T#1 seemed even taller, so we stood side by side and I measured the top of my head … which came to his mouth.  Surprised smile  How is it possible that he could grown that much in a week’s time?  (Unless I shrank … and we won’t go there as I’m already shorter than I’d like to be.  ha!)

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy ... have a great day!
Kathy

  2. Well I know how involved that "chore" can be...we have gotten new carpet a few times over the course of our marriage and it is always a little more complicated then I plan on, but sooo worth it! I LOVE new carpet! That's exciting. Sounds like you've got plenty to keep you quite busy. I am LOVING the picture of you with your grandsons. They are both soo very handsome. Not sure how tall you are, but your grandson is quite a bit taller! He looks like he is going to have some real height on him. You look so tiny and cute. Enjoy your day of quilting! I am busy making another rag quilt (for a friends baby this time!)

  3. it is something when the grandchildren go through the growth spurts. It is just a little over a month since I visited mine and they both had grown so much since I had seen them in November - my grandson is taller than me now -and our granddaughter was shorter than my daughter but not by much but this month she is the same height
hope the new carpet goes smoothly so much work but will like it when you are done I'm sure.

  8. Great picture! Yes, they can grow overnight.. usually right after you buy new clothes =). I've woken up with a head cold. I did a bunch of sewing this morning and now it is hand work while watching the original Harry Potter. That is my relaxing today before I go pick the kiddo's up from school in bit. Try and relax so that crud goes away quickly.

  9. The quilt is so pretty. You are so dedicated with your hand quilting!
Great photo of you and the boys--isn't it amazing how they can go through spurts like that? I recall school clothes purchased 2 or 3 weeks before school started that didn't fit by the time school opened. Maddening!!
You look wonderful, Kathy. Hope that smile is still on your face after the carpeting is finished!! : )

  11. Looks like he is getting to the age where he will really start shooting up there quickly. All of my teenage grandsons have passed me by long ago I know my son is looking forward to the graduate going off to college this fall as he says that is cheaper than feeding him. LOL Your making real progress! New carpet is always fun so fresh and clean!

I am loving how your Kiss quilt looks and I can see a noticeable difference in your pic when I biggie size it! l bet your hubby is excited to sleep under it!
Will it travel to HH with you or is it too big to be fun in the condo?
Love the shot of you with 2 of your T's... he surely is tall and still growing seems amazing!
Good luck with all your moving! Kathi

  16. Hope all goes well with the carpet installation. Love the quilt. Hope your better soon. Sweet photo with you and your grandson's. I think everyone in our family has passed me up in height except for my great-nephew who is 10!

  17. Oh, I know this whole new carpet deal is a royal pain but keep your eyes on the prize and know you will so enjoy it. Yes, these Grans just grow so fast and they love measuring their height and see that they are catching up with us. Happy recarpeting!!!
