I went to DD’s yesterday to watch the Ts while DD had a doctor’s appointment. I knew that the plan would be for me to head on home after DD got back because Christmas break was over, it was time to resume school. DD took a little longer than anticipated because she had to make a return trip to the doctor’s office (she’d forgotten to take her new insurance card with her) and because she had to wait for her meds at the pharmacy … and when she finally did get home, she had a couple of lengthy phone calls. Of course, I wasn’t complaining about this change in the plan because I knew that I wouldn’t see the Ts for a couple of weeks, so I was relishing my time with them.
About the time that I thought I’d head back home, T#3 accidentally poked himself in the eye. By the time we checked out his eye and got him an ice pack, it was time for lunch … I’m nothing if not flexible so the plan changed to having lunch with them and then I’d go home … DD could still have some school time while the littles were napping.
After lunch, T#3 was still complaining about his eye, so DD decided to call the pediatrician to see if she ought to take him in … and where (doctor’s office, optometrist's office, ER). So, another change in plans … I stuck around in case Mama needed to take T#3 in and I needed to watch the other 3. While we waited, I got in some more T-time.
Finally, we heard back from the pediatrician … because he was experiencing some light sensitivity, she thought it sounded like a corneal abrasion and that DD ought to take him to the ER over at the children’s hospital in St. Louis to determine how serious it was. Of course, by this time, DD had taken some of the new cough medicine she’d gotten that morning and didn’t feel that she ought to get behind the wheel. Someone needed to drive them over to St. Louis and someone needed to stay home to watch the other 3 … obviously, I couldn’t do both, so after a little brainstorming and a couple of phone calls with DSIL, we had a plan … DSIL (who was on “duty” yesterday) could work from home and watch the other 3 while I drove DD and T#3 over to the ER.
We packed up a tote full of stuff to keep him entertained and were ready to go once DSIL got home … all we had to do was to get the 2 littles up from their naps and wait for Daddy. T#3 woke up with no more pain in his eye and no more light sensitivity … which prompted DD to call back to the pediatrician to see if she still felt it necessary to go to the ER. Thankfully she said no … told DD to just keep an eye on it and gave her a list of things to watch out for.
And now I could head on home. Although it was stressful, worrying about T#3’s eye and trying to figure out how we’d get him to the ER without having to take the other 3 with, there was a silver lining … I got more time with my Ts.
I will be taking a blogging break … I’ll be back in a couple of weeks or so … see you then!
Glad you did not have to go to the ER...never a pleasant experience! Have fun on your cruise.I look forward to hearing about it!
ReplyDeleteBittersweet. Time spending with the little ones, but not a good experience for T3. At least the ER trip was avoided. My adrenalin would be high having to deal with all that!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice break!
So glad all turned out well! Enjoy every little moment of your trip! How excited you must be!

ReplyDeleteWhew - despite the worry, sounds like over-all a great day with the grands! Noticed your signature - is there a secret to creating a standard signature, or do you add that each post? Have a great vacation!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cruise Kathy...and thankfully, there wasn't much danger in the eye mishap. And hopefully everything will be okay.
ReplyDeleteHi there, You may not see this before you leave, but I wanted to share that we went to the Eastern Caribbean on our cruise. I loved St. John's and St. Martin's. There is much I could share about our experience but want to wait until I hear your thoughts. It was wonderful seeing that part of the world-hubby and I talked about going to an all inclusive resort there sometime but I doubt that will happen. This next cruise is with Princess so it will be an interesting comparison.
ReplyDeleteTravel blessings to you!
