Wednesday Hodgepodge

It’s Hump Day, and that means it’s time for some Hodgepodge!  Why don’t you play along?  Just click on the button above to link up.  Winking smile
1. April showers bring May flowers...what have you been showered with this month?
Rain … we’ve had ~7.5 inches of rain so far, with more in the forecast.  We’ve got rivers threatening to overflow their banks already … hard to tell what will happen if we get much more rain.

2. What is the nature of compassion?  Is it learned or innate?  Can compassion be learned?  If you're a parent is this something you've purposely sought to instill in your children, and if so how?
Yes and yes.  Winking smile  I believe that a certain level of compassion is innate … some people (like my daughter) are just naturally compassionate while others have to learn to be compassionate.  As a mother, teaching my daughter to be compassionate was not something that I felt that I had to teach … if anything, she has taught me to be more compassionate.

3. Do you prefer to watch romantic comedy or romantic drama...or are you rolling your eyes saying bring on the action flicks?
I prefer romantic drama over romantic comedy … slightly.  I have pretty eclectic tastes when it comes to movies … well, except for horror films and most sci-fi films.

4.  It's April which means baseball season is officially upon us here in the US of A. Humphrey Bogart is quoted as saying "A hot dog at the ballgame beats roast beef at the Ritz." Agree or Disagree?
Oh, I definitely agree.  But then you all know that I’m a big Cardinals fan.  And I’m really more of a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal, so an evening at the Ritz is not something that’s high up on my bucket list.  Winking smile

5. What's something in your community or city that needs fixing or improving?
Our village needs a grocery store.  There are 8,000+ residents and not a single grocery store.  Granted, the nearby large towns (small cities?) have several grocery stores to choose from and granted, it’s only about 6 miles to either one of those two towns.  But it would be nice to be able to pick up a gallon of milk or a needed ingredient for dinner without having to drive 20-30 minutes (round-trip).

6. Share a song you enjoy that mentions flowers or a specific flower in its title.
Boy, I’m drawing a blank here.

7. April 22nd is Earth you believe there's life on other planets?  That wasn't the question you were expecting was it?
Scripture tells us that God creates the heavens and the earth … plural on heavens and singular on earth.  I’m thinking that there’s a reason why, so I’d have to say “no” … to both questions.  Winking smile

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
We are now 15 days away from leaving for 2 weeks in Florida.  Red heart

  1. So much rain!! A lot happens in a year. I like your answer for earth day.
I had not idea that you don't have a grocery store. I must have five within a two mile radius. I was a grocer's daughter so the idea that for a city of 8000 and no market being there, I wish life was different because I would come and open one. What a opportunity.
You will be in Florida so soon.
I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday.

  2. Had another (sigh) wild day yesterday and didn't get to Hodgepodge. Maybe I will do one later. Enjoyed yours as always. Yay! on two weeks till your off...Enjoy your day!

  3. I agree with the romantic movies and have fun in Florida! sandie

  4. I love romantic dramas myself...dare I mention "The Notebook"? So excited that you're on your big vacay countdown! I know it can't possibly get here soon enough! The beach is calling my name, too! You will have such a wonderful time soaking up all that warm sunshine!

  5. What a great time to visit in Florida!! And I am with you on the Sci-Fi. But I like horror movies. LOL As for your rain, it's hard to fathom rivers overflowing their banks already. Too early!!

  6. Not too much rain here. But enough, I hope, that we aren't too dry this summer. I'm not a baseball fan but I do tend to enjoy going to a game here and there. And, maybe, even a hot dog. LOL

  7. I know what you mean about having to drive to get to a grocery store! It's a 30 minute round trip here, too.

Ed's procedure went well, with good test results. Thank you for your prayers.

  8. Romantic comedies can get a little silly.
The town where you live is about the same size as the Small Town, and you don't have a grocery store? We have 2, (3 if you want to count Aldi) plus a WalMart.

  9. So fun you get to go to Florida with the whole gang!

  10. I'm so sorry that you are getting so much rain. I saw that on the news and thought WOW! I hope it dries up before you leave for vacation.

  11. We have had a lot of rain here as well however the mantra is "Better rain than snow"

  12. I've probably said this before but i like the Cardinals too. I haven't yet been to Busch stadium! How are their hot dogs?

  13. Great answers! I agree with your Earth Day response. Two weeks in FL...sounds like fun! Hope your garden doesn't miss you too much!!

  14. Where have all the flowers gone.....I thought of that Wong immediately.

    Lots of rain!

I've never thought of the fact that the Bible say the heavens and the earth! Thanks!!!

  15. Sorry I'm so late today. It's been taking me all day to read posts and I'm still not done. I heard about all the rain you have been having. Hope it stops! I like a wide range of movies also. I knew you would agree with Bogart. Hope you get a store someday. When we were in a new community back 25 years ago it took years before we got one. What are they waiting for? I like your reasoning on question #7 about life on other planets. Have a great time in Florida. I'm going in June.

  16. I'm actually in Florida for a few days now, which is why I'm so slow getting to the HP this week. wish I were staying for two weeks!

I am SO glad you stopped by! No proving that you're a robot here ... I want to hear what you have to say! ;-)
