Slow Sunday Stitching

It was a delightful day yesterday … too bad it’s not going to last.  We’ve got storms due to come through this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow.  According to the national news Friday evening, this is a huge storm system, with potential for lots of damage, that is due to track across a good part of the country … including my little part of the world.  And I guess the meteorologists are right because the sun was shining earlier this morning … and it’s gotten very cloudy.

I finished the 42nd (of 42) blocks on my Kiss quilt Friday evening!  I had 40 blocks finished right before dinner, and I decided that by golly! I was going to finish her up that evening … so while the Blues played (and lost … I don’t want to talk about that!), I stitched up the last two blocks.  Woo hoo!  I’ve got a whole lot more strips, enough for shams … and maybe even another, smaller quilt.  I’d set a goal for myself to have the blocks finished by Sunday evening … and I made it with time to spare!

After my walk with Lois yesterday morning, I got started on DD’s herringbone quilt.  Here’s the inspiration quilt (click on the picture for the source):

As you can see those are just half square triangles (HSTs) in two colors and set in such a way to create a herringbone effect.  DD chose a darker gray and a lighter gray as her two colors.  I prewashed the fabrics and got to cutting away … I’m going to need 512 triangles (256 in the light gray and 256 in the dark gray).  Thank goodness for my GO Cutter!  Can you imagine cutting 512 triangles by hand?  I can’t either.  Winking smile  As you can see, I’ve got quite a few light gray triangles cut … time to count them and then get back to cutting.  At least I’ll have some Blues hockey to keep me entertained while cutting (and let’s hope for a better outcome this afternoon!).

But cutting triangles isn’t all that I plan to do today.  It’s been a good long while since I’ve had some time with my needle and thread … and I think we need to get reacquainted today!  I’ve got 24 blocks done and have a start on #25 … I’d like to have that block done by the end of the day.

Have a blessed Sunday!

  6. Storms here today too and the next few days. I don't think we will ever get the garden planted.

Oh, that will sure be a pretty quilt for DD. Funny that you use modern methods to cut but traditional methods to quilt!

  8. We had a very loud thunder storm come thru early this am. I hope that there are no tornadoes with this storm, but it is the season. I love that chevron quilt! I love simple shapes and high contrast, two color quilts.

  13. Looks like some of that undesirable weather is headed our way as well. Ugh!

I love that Herringbone quilt and I think it could also be called Chevron. :o))

I cannot imagine cutting all those squares. Must take a lot of patience.

    Happy week!

  15. Just got our Internet back – it’s been out most of the day. Hope you survived the storms with no damage. By now, you probably have all of those triangles cut – that would be a great job to have done! ~Jeanne

  18. Well I am anxious to see the Kiss quilt blocks going together. And your daughters quilt is going to be soo pretty! But that Go-cutter has REALLY got my attention. I am going to goggle that and see what all it can do. What a wonder that would be. As we all know, cutting out the fabric into the necessary pieces is by far the most time consuming and dreaded (for me anyway, lol) part of the quilt. Can't wait to get it done. I have got one border on and hope to finish up my top this morning. Then just have to wisk the back together and get it to the quilters. It went fast. Enjoy your day Kathy!

  19. What a nice quilt - so effective no matter what colors are chosen! My Slow Sunday was slow only because the thread kept breaking on my long-arm, but I made it through!!!!
