Wednesday Hodgepodge

I didn’t think I’d be able to participate in this week’s Hodgepodge … we had planned to go spend a couple of days at my sister’s, but she hurt her knee and would prefer to postpone our visit.  I’m not sure when we’ll be able to get back up there, but I know that I’ll see her over Labor Day weekend, when my other sister comes up from Austin for a visit.  Winking smile  So … on to the Hodgepodge!

1. What would you say is the key to success?
Hard work.  Hard work can overcome many shortcomings.

2. Have you ever been to the Florida Keys? Any desire to visit that part of the US of A?
Yes … and I would LOVE to visit again!  We visited there in 2011 on our trip to Florida for Spring Training.  2011_0324KeyWest0049We only had one day to visit, so our visit was confined to Key West … I have to confess I was a little apprehensive about visiting Key West, but we enjoyed our visit.  I definitely want to spend more time in the Keys on our next trip … and see more than just Key West.

3. When and where did you last see a real live donkey? Monkey? Turkey?
I cannot remember when I last saw a donkey … I saw monkeys at the zoo last year … and I saw wild turkeys along the shoulder of the interstate as I was driving home from a class in St. Louis this past April.

4. An old Portuguese proverb says, 'Beware of the door with too many keys.'What do you think this means? Share an example of how this has proven true or false in your own life.
I don’t know … maybe because I’m not ready to think that hard yet.  Winking smile

5. Besides your home, vehicle, and special jewelry, what is something you keep under lock and key?
DH collects coins, so we keep some of the more valuable ones in our lock box at the bank.

6. When did you last get keyed up about something?
I got pretty excited about the retreat I attended last month.

7. Who thinks we need an easy one right about now?  Key lime pie...yes please or no thank you?
Oh yes, indeed!  I love good key lime pie!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I won Janet @ Rogue Quilter’s row-by-row giveway!  I won the pattern and cardstock pieces to make this gorgeous runner.
(picture borrowed from Janet’s blog post – linked above)
Those paper pieces are so tiny … I’ve never worked with pieces that small.  But the snowflakes are so beautiful, I’m willing to give it a try.  I need to dig through my stash to find some white and get started on the snowflakes when we go to Hilton Head in September.

If that project is any indication of the kind of gorgeous patterns being offered during the Row by Row Experience, I think maybe I need to take a day (or two) and visit some of the participating shops.

Look at what we found in the garden yesterday.
photo (2)We picked one that weighed almost 1.5 lbs. last week … if you look closely at the scale, you can see that this one weighs in at 1 lb. 11.2 oz.  Surprised smile

Have a wonderful Wednesday, y’all!
Kathy

  2. I love fresh tomatoes! Ours aren't nearly at that stage yet. This summer has been uncommonly cool and things are growing much more slowly than normal.

  13. Have to confess I have never tasted Key Lime Pie. Is that unAmerican?
    Glad your pattern arrived safely.
That is one whopper of a tomato. I won't tell my DH. Our plants are so scrawny this year--and yielding next to nothing.
