Sleepy Slow Sunday Stitching

It’s another early (and I mean early – like 2:45) get-up this morning.  I’m going to blame DH for this one (kidding!).  He’s been suffering from some kind of respiratory crud this week … which means that he spends his nights snoring and coughing and that I spend my nights tossing and turning.  Tonight (last night?) I just “had enough” … he might be able to sleep through the coughing fits, I certainly couldn’t … and after four nights of this, I desperately needed some sleep.  He was willing to go to the spare bedroom for the rest of the night (maybe so he could sleep without my nudging him to roll over every 20-30 minutes - in a futile attempt to get him to stop snoring), but by the time I turned down the bed for him and crawled back into bed, I was wide awake.  I stayed in bed trying to fall back to sleep … to no avail.  By then, I was reaching the “vicious circle stage”, where I was fretting over needing to get to sleep if I was going to be able to get up to get to church by 8:00.  After about 30 minutes of that, I knew that I was never going to be able to fall asleep and decided to get up and at least do something semi-productive.

My something semi-productive included catching up on emails and blogs (my usual morning routine) and putting a few stitches into T#3’s quilt.IMG_1256I’m not sure if you can tell, but after I finish the block in the hoop, I’ll have only one more block to quilt (to the right of the hoop) before I start quilting the outer ring of blocks.  Since we have nothing on our calendar for this afternoon/evening, I’ll have plenty more time with my needle and thread.  Red heart

I had hoped to be on the outer ring of blocks by now, but I wasn’t able to pick up my needle and thread yesterday … T#1 had his family birthday party … pizza and wings with chocolatey peanut buster bar dessert plus board/card games = fun times!  All the more so for me since DH isn’t a “game player”.

The weather yesterday was certainly more like what winter should be at the end of February … and thankfully when we got home last night, the roads and our driveway were all clear.  Just in time for a return of the cold weather … complete with a windchill advisory through tomorrow morning.  Annoyed  Good excuse to stay inside and quilt (not that I need much of an excuse – ha!).

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  1. Oh I hate when I can't sleep and a husband that snores and coughs surely doesn't help. I love your log cabin quilts and hope to try out the ruler this week to cut some scraps up to try and do some log cabin blocks. I know they are not as simple as they look. Have fun stitching today!

  2. We sleep in separate rooms when one of us is sick... I feel your pain! Your quilting is coming along nicely! Not that much more to go!

  3. You have made alot of progress on this lovely quilt. Hope he's better soon...I'd keep him in the spare room for another night and get some rest! :)

  4. I totally understand the snoring hubby dilemma. I am usually the one who moves to a spare bed. I find I don't wake up as much that way. Sometimes though I too just have to get up for the day. I really like your log cabin quilt. Enjoy your hibernating and stitching.

  5. love your log cabin and like the others I have been there, hubby snores and at times I am pushing and prodding him to turn, I haven't had a spell of waking up as early as you do though in a long time and now that I have said that I hope it doesn't start! more winter weather coming to us late this afternoon and tonight - I wonder how much we will get.

  8. Oh how frustrating! I have ALWAYS been a light sleeper. Not much at all wakes me up. Luckily for me I usually fall right back to sleep. However, hubby is a world class snorer. Seriously years ago he went to a sleep clinic where the people there told him, "your wife is NOT exaggerating. You''re one of the loudest we've ever heard and we do this for a living!" He does not have sleep apnea but we tried the mask anyway. It drove both of us nuts. lol Soo hubby sleeps in our spare room most of the time. He sleeps better in there. He always starts in our bed but somewhere around the 3rd or 4th poke he moves as he gets tired of getting woke up. Truthfully I've been doing it so long and fall back asleep so quickly I don't always remember doing it, I don't doubt that I do though, lol.
Sometimes when he is especially tired, or I've already gone to bed long before him he just goes to the spare bed to start with. Sleep is way too important to both of us, We've got GREAT queen sized mattresses in both rooms so we are ok. Obviously when my mom moved in for that year and she was in the other room we had some adjusting to do. And there were many a night I lied awake in a panic thinking...it will be morning soon QUICK go to sleep. There is nothing worse. Hopefully you won't be TOO tired today and get a much better sleep tonight. Enjoy your day!

  10. I usually wake up at that time too but can't blame the DH. It is just me, still getting up for the 2 AM feeding even though baby is now 16 years old. \:^} Funny me! Enjoy the slow stitching and a good night sleep tonight.

  11. Welcome to my World of non-sleep--last night I was up until 3 am--my mind a frenzied scurrying pit! I hate when that happens--all too often these days! When I turned in DH got up with his sinus problems--our house never really sleeps it seems lately! I did crossword puzzles and couldn't knit as my wrist brace was still wet from washing out last night. Hoping to knit slowly today...hugs to another "night owl" Julierose

  12. I have had the respiratory crud lately as well.. I feel for both of you! My whole house has it though! So we keep each other up a lot... Loving that you are so close to the outer ring of the quilt... you are on the downhill slide now Kathy! Maybe a nap after church could get you a bit of rest "catch up" too ;) Kathi

  15. Oh, those sleepless nights! Last night was one for me too, but I just get out of bed and head for the living room with a book. After nodding off finally out there, I got back to bed and then slept until a miraculous 8:30!!!! That doesn't happen often! Hope you get some rest today, and a good sleep tonight!

  16. Bummer on the not sleeping. We have been swapping on who gets the futon for sleeping while Greg is still coughing and he keeps saying I snore =). It is 80 degrees today and I'm thinking of all the freezing temps up north. Very strange few days.

  17. I think that respiratory crud is going around. DH and I took turns with it and turns in the spare bedroom! He's retired but I have to get up for work at 4am!

Have fun stitching whenever you can. Lovely quilt, by the way.

  18. Oh, I don't know how you make it through the day without any more sleep than you seem to get. I've had sleepless nights but it's been a while and I'm not sure I was really awake as long as I thought I was. I've never gotten up when I couldn't sleep as I was afraid it would just wake me up past the point of being able to go back to sleep.

Quilt is looking great! Have a great week!

  19. I hate nights like that, when no matter what, you can't sleep. Hope you get past that stage soon.

  20. I am so sorry your poor hubby is sick. Poor you having to be awake so early. That does throw my schedule off so bad. I do hope you get to do lots of quilting.
So sorry about all of that cold.
