This n That on Thursday

Winter has returned here … the temperatures started to drop yesterday as the wind picked up.  And we saw a very light dusting of snow when we got up this morning.  And other than a bit of a respite tomorrow, it looks like winter’s going to be sticking around for a while.
Weather
At least we have some snow in the forecast, although it doesn’t look like it’ll amount to much.

With the temperatures dropping yesterday, I decided to make some White Chili.  DH was out running errands, so I asked him to pick up a can of diced green chiles.  As I was opening the can, I looked a little more closely at the label and noticed that he brought home a can of thisjalapenos instead of thischiles
Ooops!  I’d already opened the can and had started the chili, so I went with it (and skipped the cayenne pepper).  It was spicy but good … DH has a pretty low tolerance for heat, so I worried whether he’d be able to tolerate it, but he had a second bowl … Winking smile

I was able to get in some time with my needle and thread yesterday … I’m almost done quilting the 16th block of T#3’s quilt.  I’ve got all the center blocks quilted … just the outer 2 blocks all the way around the quilt are left to be quilted.  When I saw that big section of blocks quilted, I was sure that I was on the downhill slope of quilting … until I remembered that there are 63 blocks in this quilt … which means that I still have 48 blocks to quilt.  Surprised smile  Good thing I enjoy the hand quilting, eh?

After a few weeks of good, sound sleep, insomnia has reared its ugly head again.  Annoyed  This time, instead of getting up at 2:30 in the morning, I’m now falling asleep at about that time … and while I’m technically sleeping in (6:30 instead of my usual 4:30), I don’t do too well with just 4-5 hours of sleep.

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  1. I've used those accidentally too and they are spicy. The chili is always so good.

Sleep is such a challenge as we get older. Remember when we could sleep forever as teens?

  2. I have done that so many times I hate to even think about it. I think I have a few cans in my pantry instead of green chilies even now.
I just can't even imagine that kind of cold. How nice you got to work on your quilt.
I am so sorry about that insomnia. I know how bad it can be and it happens to me in the summer. Not to mention that tired feeling that just doesn't seem to go away. Have a lovely day today, I hope you get lots of quilting done.

  3. my daughter goes through long spells of insomnia - my spells are usually short - know what you are going through. it is tough at times. I don't do spicy very well and I get laughed at when I say there is too much in something and I'm told it was only black pepper in the recipe but that a 1/4 teaspoon or so more was added to it -
looks like winter is still around for awhile - I hope our spell of it will be short.

  4. I would love to have some more winter weather over here....maybe we can share, lol. We are suppose to hit ninety today and tomorrow! Not ready for that. Chili sounds good but that might have made it a little too spicy for this tummy. I LOVE it don't get me wrong, but I pay later. I made taco soup last night despite our warm weather. Sounds like the quilt is coming right along. Praying the insomnia gets under control soon. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  5. Hope your insomnia goes away as fast as it came back! Beautiful day here - the sun and blue sky with all of our snow. But it is frigid out so it's a great day to stitch. Enjoy!

  6. So glad you got some quilting time.

It's been snowing here this morning. I'd say maybe an inch at the most. But thankfully, it's all melted off the roadway and sidewalks, so it's really been rather pretty. Great big snowflakes. If it's going to snow, this is the way I like it. :)

Hope you can get back into a regular sleep cycle soon.

    Have a great day!!

  9. Bummer on the sleep issues rearing it's head again. Hope the sleep comes back quickly. Great progress on your quilt... I really need to get back to quilting mine. Chilly weather starting here tomorrow for us through the weekend. 70 today and high of 58 (probably cooler at my house) tomorrow. Great weather for chili and quilting.

  10. Glad the jalapenos worked out! I like their flavor and heat but anything hotter is too much for me! I wish ya all would keep the cold up there. I faced the north wind today at 35 degrees on my walk and decided once around the block was enough.

  11. Oh, I would have loved the chili, the hotter the better. We have real cold weather headed this way as well. Ugh! Guess you saw that our Andi Kate arrived yesterday at 4:07 and weighed 7 lb. 9 oz. She is so precious. It's been busy, busy around here. They will come home tomorrow afternoon.

  12. When we watch Detroit TV, we see the weather warnings - but what great days to stay indoors and quilt and cook chili (but I'd be tempted to do without the jalapenos, not much tolerance for heat here either).

  13. I would have had to throw the can away - can't take the heat at all - the membranes in my mouth swell up. Such is life - mild chili only. Happiness is progress on your T3 - thanks for sharing.
