Slow Finish to a Busy Weekend

I had plans of a slow start to the weekend, but as is often the case, my plans failed to materialize.  I got a call, early Friday morning, from DD asking if I could give her a bit of a break with the Ts … she wasn’t feeling too good and thought a day of peace and quiet (and a nap) might do the trick.  Of course, she didn’t have to twist my arm to get me to say “yes”.  Our first stop was the library in the adjoining town … a toy shop was hosting a homeschool event, bringing in toys for the kids to sample.  T#1 really was dreading the outing, but as is often the case, he was the one who enjoyed it the most.  Bonus:  I got a couple of gift ideas for his upcoming birthday.

Afterwards we stopped at DQ for lunch – and ice cream – before heading to Nana’s house.  We had a couple of hours to kill before it was time to get ready for swim practice.  It was a long, but good day … but then any day spent with my Ts is a good day in my book!

They swam in another meet yesterday.  Unlike most meets that start at 8:00 (with warmups starting at 6:30), this meet began at 1:00.  That gave DH and me time to drop off my sewing machine for an annual tune-up and have a quick lunch before heading to the pool.  It was a small meet … 3 smaller teams, so it went fairly quickly … we were done by 5:30.  The Ts did well … all 3 finished 1st or 2nd in all their events (other than a DQ on T#3’s 50 free).  We all stopped for our usual post-meet meal at our usual post-meet establishment Five Guys.

At least today is going to be a slower, more uneventful day.  There is, I hear tell, a big deal going on this afternoon.
Super Bowl
I’m not a football fan, nor am I fan of all the hype surrounding the Super Bowl, but our neighbors are hosting a Super Bowl party … and since we enjoy time spent with them, we’ll go.  And I’ll enjoy seeing the commercials.

In the meantime, I plan to spend a few hours with my needle and thread … I didn’t get any quilting time Friday or Saturday and I’m anxious to get in a few stitches.  Besides, if I have to sit through a football game, I deserve a couple of hours quilting, don’t you think?  ha!

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  2. I think it is so nice that you are close enough to your daughter in distance to help her out when needed. I would so love to do that with my daughter and grandchildren. Our son in law in in the National Guard and his unit was called to serve and he is overseas right now - wouldn't you know it our daughter slipped and fell on the ice this week and now has her arm in a splint from a severe sprain and tendonitis and I can't be there to help her out - I'm glad the kids are now 12 &14 though and are helping out to the point of doing the laundry! I'm so proud of them for stepping up.

  3. I love Five Guys -- super good burgers (and fries)! We have two in Huntsville and Five Guys is in the rotation for our Stitchers group's eateries. Enjoy the company tonight -- and the commercials. I pay little attention to the NFL (I'm a college--and more precisely, an SEC--football watcher), and barely knew tonight was the super bowl game! :)

  4. Such a wonderful time with those T's! So look forward to seeing our grandchildren in a few weeks again, and just dying for them to get old enough for us to take them on an outing. How fortunate you are to have yours so close by. And that football game - I'd be tempted to take some handwork along with me LOL!

  5. Sounds like a really good weekend - sure hope DD is feeling better. We went to hockey yesterday and will walk across the street to watch the commercials tonight. Great day to stitch here - we are getting LOTS of snow - supposed to end up with 11-15" and strong winds. ~Jeanne

  8. You are such a great Nana!!! Sounds like a lovely day :) I'm looking forward to the Super Bowl, but I don't have a favorite in the match, so I plan to happily stitch on my Millefiori hexagons while I watch. Slow and quiet day for me. So glad you are planning some fun time with your stitching too :)

  10. We got a Five Guys here last year, but I have still never eaten there. I'll have to give them a try.
I've never seen a super bowl in my life, but I like the little sign. I think I'd like that kind of super bowl, too. : )

Now I feel weird trying it out without her...isn't that silly? Hope you have a good week. I've lots to do and am soo glad I got in a good nights sleep last night. Didn't sleep good the night before and that's always soo "nightmarish" the next day, lol.

Nothing like nana that takes you for ice cream on the way home :)

  15. It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Fortunately for me, hubby doesn't really watch a lot of football and did not care at all about the Super Bowl this year. We just watched a couple of TV shows and relaxed at home.

  18. What a great weekend you had. We had some friends over for Superbowl. It was my first (I'm from Australia.) I started to get the hang of what the game was about right near the end!
