Better Late than Never

Mommy's Idea
Has it really been 3 weeks since I’ve done a Friday Fragments???  Maybe in that 3 weeks, I’ve forgotten all about Friday Fragments, thus forgetting to post mine this morning?  Nah … I was feeling pretty sluggish this morning when I got up, so I just putzed around online, checking emails, reading blogs, catching up on the news, etc.  Then about the time I planned to start writing, I took a brief trip to the bathroom … and ended up cleaning both bathrooms which led to doing four loads of laundry, trying on clothes for our trip, and assorted other tasks.  The next thing I knew, it was 4:00 and I hadn’t posted my Fragments!  Surprised smile

As a result of trying on clothes for our trip, I now know what I’m going to do when we get back.  <sigh>  Time to get back on track with my eating and my exercise.  Unfortunately, by the time we get back, I’ll probably have another couple of pounds to lose.

I’m still working on my disappearing four patch wall quilt, but I’m not enjoying it quite as much as I thought I would.  I had such HIGH hopes for this quilt … and now I’m fretting that it’s going to be too small (I wanted to do a 42” square but ran out of fabrics so it’s going to be 30”) and that the colors are too Christmas-y (I chose the colorway to coordinate with our living room colors). And I can see, as I’m hand quilting, that my slicing of the four patch blocks wasn’t quite as accurate as it should have been (I realize now that I should have measured from the outer edge so I wouldn’t have to try to cut with the ruler over that pesky center seam) … no doubt no one else will notice when it’s hanging, but it’s frustrating to me. I refuse to give up on it … I can always use it as a table topper at Christmas time. But I’m ready to be done with it.
Wall quilt 001At least in this picture (which will enlarge if you click on it), the colors are a little closer to what they are in real life.

T#1 and T#2 have another swim meet tomorrow … this meet will be at their local YMCA, so only a 15-minute drive instead of a 2-hour drive. Winking smile I can’t wait to cheer them on!

Our snow from last week is almost completely melted.  Sad smile  I’m not sure that I ever heard exactly how much we got – it never got quite cold enough, so the snow melted almost as fast as it fell.  It looked like we had about an inch and a half on the ground when we left Saturday morning.  The meteorologists are including snow in our forecast for tomorrow.  I’m hoping for some accumulation!

  1. Kathy,
You have gotten too up close and personal with your quilt. I think we tend to do that when we finish them by hand because we spend so much time with them.

    Here's the scoop:
    YOUR QUILT IS BEAUTIFUL!

Quit nit-picking it; You wouldn't do that to a friend's quilt. So be your own friend.

It's lovely and it doesn't look too Christmas-y at all. As far as the size, you can hang it in combo with something else in that space.

No more fretting. Life is entirely too short. Once again:
    YOUR QUILT IS BEAUTIFUL!

Ok. Off my soapbox. You can return the favor next time I am lamenting all the errors in my quilt.

    blessings,
    pam

  2. I just laughed as most of the things I did this week was just like you and how you started cleaning bathrooms. I didn't start out to reorganize, cleaning bathroom drawers started because I needed to pull back my hair and couldn't find a band.
Your quilt looks nice. I bet it will looks so pretty when it is finished.
I am glad you don't have to drive. I was reading the weather today and we do have cold weather coming for the middle of January. I wonder if it will happen when you are on your cruise.
It sounds like your days are filled with lots of nice things.

  3. Kathy, your quilt is wonderful! And your hand quilting is really, really nice - great job! One of my best friends has a saying about her quilts - "If Paul Revere could see that flaw as he rides by, then I'll change it. Otherwise, it's just fine the way it is!" I think your quilt is "just fine" the way it is :*D

I do understand though being tired of a project and a little disheartened because it doesn't live up to your dreams for it. I applaud you for finishing it! I have a few that are languishing in boxes because I just lost heart in finishing them. I think you are really going to enjoy that quilt as a table topper if it is too small for the wall. The fabrics are so warm and rich, very inviting - definitely not too Christmas-y.

I've got to get on the band wagon to lose weight too! Not fun at all :*(

  4. Hi there, I loved reading creative crazy girl's comments-I think I'll have to visit her. It cracks me up because your quilts are always so accurate and I wouldn't have even noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. Remember only God is perfect(at least that is what I always tell myself concerning my quilts). Sounds like you've had a full day. Have a great weekend my friend. P.S. if you ever come to Co., you can be sure we'll meet and spend time together.
    Hugs, Noreen

  5. I get sidetracked like that often. Yes you may have a full more to lose but the may thing is to enjoy your trip to the fullest and start when you get home. The quilt does look like Christmas but it is so lovely and if it blends with your colors then it most likely won't look that way on your wall. We just have Christmas still on our minds! Have fun at the meet and have a wonderful weekend.

  7. Planning for a cruise while enjoying snow...that's mind boggling.

As always, your quilt is beautiful. Have a great weekend!

  8. I do the same thing...get side tracked and next thing I know it is time to make dinner!

  9. You tickled me talking about how side tracked you got this morning. But, at least you were being very productive while you were sidetracked. Most of us aren't quite that lucky.

I really like the quilt and it certainly looks perfect to me. We're always our own worse critic.

Enjoy cheering the T's on tomorrow and have a great weekend!

  11. Well, at least you GOT some snow. We hardly ever get it but, when we do, it's GLORIOUS! I just love snow. Though having it all the time might change my mind about it. It's just always so pretty seeing everything covered in a blanket of white. Don't even talk to me about the whole pounds to lose issue. UGH. The quilt is lovely!

  13. Oh my goodness - I have been where you are these last two weeks - the kids have just taken my time - but no complaints. Just late in answering, writing, and reading blogs.

  14. Isn't it amazing how those pounds sneak up on us? But healthy eating (after the cruise) and you'll do just fine to drop them.

    betty

  15. Last winter we did not stay cold enough to KEEP our snow on the ground - - - that's VERY unusual here in Wisconsin. This year so far we are getting AND keeping our snow. I say AMEN to that!

I admire you quilters AND your handiwork. SO pretty.

Of course, I would probably cuss and scream if someone tried to MAKE me quilt or sew in any fashion - - - and I've never been a cusser in my LIFE.

    Hehehehehe

  16. I get sidetracked sometimes when I enter a room also. I need to start focusing on losing a few pounds myself. We are excepting a bit of snow today and still have quite a bit on the ground.
    Happy weekend!

  17. How easy it is to get side-tracked just by opening a drawer or cupboard. But it's one way to get that 'spring cleaning' done LOL! Love that quilt, any idea where I can fine a pattern? You're going to love your cruise so much you won't mind the couple of extra pounds (and honestly, they're probably as much water retention from the heat as anything else, and will melt away as soon as you get back to the cold weather). Have a good time!

I am SO glad you stopped by! No proving that you're a robot here ... I want to hear what you have to say! ;-)
