Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

As I predicted, DH and I called it a night long before the new year rolled in … but alas, our “neighbors” (in the next subdivision over) had other plans.  They started shooting off fireworks at around 10:30 … so DH and I gave in and got back up.  As I sat in my recliner, I’d decided I’d had enough of the Christmas tree and decorations … and down they came!  By the time we were done, it was almost midnight … so we saw the new year in after all.  Not exactly the most exciting way to celebrate New Year’s Eve (ha!), but it sure felt good when I got up this morning and saw the house back to “normal”.  I did manage to sleep in to make up for the late night … I made it all the way to 6:15.  Confused smile

There are football games on TV today, so I suspect that DH will tune them in.  This is when I’m especially thankful that we paid for the TV receiver for his hearing aids … he can turn the volume off but still pull the sound directly into his hearing aids.  I’ll be able to quilt alongside him without having to listen to the announcer’s drivel.  Winking smile

Speaking of quilting, I’m well into the outermost blocks of DH’s log cabin.  If I recall correctly, I have 9 or 10 of the blocks done … I imagine that I’ll cross the halfway point some time today (there are 28 outermost blocks).  My original plan was to quilt until Monday when I’d start on the quilt for T#3.  But since I’m getting so close to the finish on this quilt, I may just keep working on it … hopefully it’ll only postpone my start on T#3’s quilt by a day or two.

We have no New Year’s Day celebrations or traditions here at Chez Nana … unless you count watching football (DH) or quilting (me).  Winking smile

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  1. Good morning! Well I might be a little jealous over here, lol. I was in bed and snoozing strongly by 10:30 last night and yet made it all the way to 6:15 too. But! my Christmas decorations sit looming to be done. It's always such a good feeling to get that particular chore behind you isn't it? At least the tree is down, but I have soo much left, haha. Wishing you and your family a VERY happy, healthy new year! And may our quilting bring us hours and hours of pleasure!

  2. we might have the games on later this afternoon but we do nothing special either - we heard fireworks going off last night too about 9:30 but in a distance I went to bed at 10:30 but then went and woke up at 2:30 went back to bed after about an hour couldn't fall asleep and got back up and then fell asleep on the couch at 5 and got up at 6 - wonder what kind of day this is going to be LOL

  4. Hubby and I had dinner with several friends last night and then came home and went to bed and never heard a thing. Guess that's a real sign of our age. :o)) I got up this morning and took our tree down and am so glad to have that behind me for the last time in this house. I had to keep it up way longer than I like to due to all the Christmas events that took place around here this past week. I have a post for tomorrow sharing all the fun of our Christmas. Happy new year Kathy!

  5. Too funny! I lasted until 11. I plan to take the tree down soon once hubby's movie is done. I'll put in the first Harry Potter movie and pack up the ornaments without kiddo's helping - they went to Grandma's for the night. I can't wait to change to snowmen for January =).

  6. We took our tree and decorations down today. I've enjoyed them immensely, but I'm so glad they are down now. I spent last evening updating my Etsy account and adding some new things. Getting ready to add some more this evening too.

Hope you are enjoying your quilting today.

  7. Happy New Year! We are very lazy around here on New Year's Day - lots of football and lots of quilting - fun for all! The Christmas decorations will probably come down tomorrow...unless I opt to quilt! Hope you had a great day and have a great year. ~Jeanne

  8. I'll be taking the tree and decorations down tomorrow and Saturday, and I will be sorry to see it all go. I love the glow of the holidays, but I try to be brave when it is over. : )
Football going on here, too--and I am having a quilty day. Went to a 2 hour sale at a favorite quilt shop with a quilting friend, then had another friend over for a hand quilting lesson. It has been fun.
Hope you enjoyed your New Year's Day!

  11. Happy New Year Kathy!!!! We still look like Christmas around here, but we have another little one coming to visit for a few days so we had to keep it all up. I know you are getting excited to be almost finished with the quilting! I'm so jealous :) Like you, we don't do anything exciting for New Years and I can't remember the last time we stayed up for the ball to drop. But I do like to putter and do fun stuff on New Years - that would be my only tradition I suppose :)

  12. I thought that might happen here. Except it is not fireworks going off but gunfire. Usually the dogs start barking when they hear it and we just can't get to sleep. The dogs stayed quite last night, so it was a early night for us. We do not have any New Years traditions either, just a normal day. My husband is not a football fan, I guess that does make us a little different than most. You sure are making fast work of quilting your DH's quilt!

  13. We actually made it until midnight tis year! I wish by DH would get hearing aids. He always has the TV blasting sooooooo loud. Happy New Year!

  14. Kathy, my hubby can't admit he needs hearing aids, but uses TV ears to not only hear better, but block out all the kids noise, they work like a charm...plus I can sit and read without listening as well! Stop by my quilting blog, have a cute scissors holder giveaway starting tomorrow. I just wanted to start 2015 off with some fun!

  15. Well I like that you got back up and accomplished something. My decorations will be up for at least another week. We don't have any New Year traditions either but growing up there was always a big dinner.
