It's Done!

Well, almost anyway. Right before dinner last night, I took the last stitch on DH's log cabin and got it squared up.
That means today will be spent cutting strips to make the binding and sewing on that binding. I am hoping to bind it in the same red that I used for the "chimney", but I'm not sure if I have enough fabric left. Actually, I'm not sure I have enough of any of the fabrics I used ... I do have enough of the various blues, so I might end up with a "scrappy" binding, which will be a first for me. Luckily they're all so similar that hopefully it won't look to crazy.

Once I get the quilt bound, it'll be time to start cutting into T#3's fabrics. I doubt he remembers that about a year ago he asked me to make him another quilt, but this Nana remembers ... and I'm anxious to get started on his quilt.

DH came down with some kind of digestive bug yesterday ... he spent all but about two hours in bed. I told him that if he shares this, he's going to be sorry! Ha!  He's feeling better today, thankfully.

Thankfully it didn't get quite as cold last night as forecast ... although if I were outside, I'm not sure that I could tell much difference between 2 and 0.  It's going to be cold again today, although not quite as cold as it was yesterday ... and the wind chill won't be quite as brutal. I know that there are some of you who are laughing because your temperatures make ours seem balmy in comparison. Trust me, though, that this is significantly colder weather than we normally see in January. And considering that I have very little, if any, tolerance for cold, what with my Raynaud's, it's especially brutal.  It's times like these that I long for a warm beach ... oh, who am I kidding?  I long to be at the beach every day!  ha!

I can really feel the effects of getting back to walking ... my legs are achey.  It didn't help that we walked a little longer than we usually do.  But I'm going to head back to the Y this morning ... if I don't keep at it, it'd be too easy for me to just give up walking.

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  1. yes with Raynaud's you need to stay warm. I have it mildly but not severe. It used to bother me a lot but all of my autoimmune problems are pretty much under control with medication. It is so cold here too - I have the fire place blasting trying to help the house stay warm - the electric heat is working just can't keep up with the cold - it is 7 degrees here this morning. I got up several times in the night to add more wood to the fireplace insert and it is helping. My sister in law said their house was 57 degrees this morning they have a heat pump too and their fire went out in the middle of the night and they were both going to work this morning so she didn't start it back up again. They have a large house though so their fireplace doesn't heat as good as ours does. Looking forward to seeing the log cabin bound.

  2. Good morning! Well I certainly can't relate on the cold weather. We had a few days of pretty cool (for California) weather and honestly I thoroughly enjoyed it. But we have had some heat this week and our temps have been in the low 80's during the day. Soo nice. I have actually been back in my capri's and sandals. It is suppose to drop back into the 60's though now for a while. I'd love some rain but so far none of that in the forecast. The quilt is BEAUTIFUL and I bet it's such a good feeling to be do near completion. Personally, I think a scrappy binding would look really good on this quilt. Enjoy your day and keep toasty!

  3. Congrats on getting the quilt almost finished. It's beautiful!

It's really cold her too and I don't like it one bit. But I am thankful I have a nice warm home and that I work inside and not out.

  5. Lovely quilt--I think a scrappy binding will be lovely. Very cold here too--especially for us on the SE Coast of CT---1 actual temp last night and 19 windchill..brrr...we didn't even venture out today. And so a little cabin fever sets in....hugs, Julierose

  6. That quilt turned out beautifully and you must be so happy to get it done. Sorry your hubby is sick, but I'm glad you aren't feeling his pain. :D Hope you don't! I know what you mean about walking. It's the exercise that I can most easily enjoy with osteoarthritis. It's too cold to go to the stadium! Let me know how you liked that recipe.

  7. Oh Kathy, it is gorgeous! Love, love, love it! If you don't have enough red for binding, I bet the scrappy blues will read one color. They look very similar in the photo. Hope your DH is on the mend and that you stay healthy. Also keep warm! ~Jeanne

  8. I've used a scrappy binding on several quilts. I love the look. Sometimes I've done it out of necessity because I didn't have enough of one fabric for the binding. Sometimes I've done it just because I thought the look would add to the overall appearance of the quilt.

  10. I need to get back to my walking, so easy to be lazy. I used to walk with Max everyday but he is getting old and I think the 2 mile walks are a bit too much for him. I hate leaving him at home but I also need to get back in the habit. How exciting to have a finish!; Love this one!
