It’s In the Hoop!

I was bound and determined to be able to take some quilting stitches on T#3’s quilt yesterday … and it happened.  I had to sew on the outer border and then it was time for basting.

I would have rather had a full-on shot of the entire quilt, but DH was running errands … this was the best I could do by myself.  Winking smile  I was able to get a few stitches in before dinner and am looking forward to getting in a few more today.

My walking partner Lois twisted her leg early last week and has taken time off from walking to allow her leg to heal.  I didn’t walk last week … it was too easy to just skip it and head into the sewing room.  But I can’t afford to repeat that this week … between my osteopenia and my aging metabolism, I really need to walk.  DH normally goes to the Y to work out in the afternoons … I asked him if he would be willing to go in the morning instead this week.  I need someone to motivate me and to hold me accountable.  Thankfully he was agreeable to that … and suggested we go after dinner last night since neither one of us had gotten any exercise yet.  I was thankful for his suggestion, even though exercising that late really wiped me out.  I was ready for bed by 7:00 but forced myself to stay up another hour.  An early bedtime = an early “get-up” … as in 3:30 this morning!  Surprised smile

I finished up my third audiobook yesterday morning and am a fair ways through audiobook #4.  Between listening while sewing, quilting and walking, it doesn’t take long to get a book “read”.  I’ve discovered that narration can be purchased, often for a nominal fee, for many Kindle books at www.amazon.com, making them an audiobook for much less than purchasing the audiobook version … since I already own several Kindle books, I’m wondering if the narration could be purchased for any of those ebooks?

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy ... have a great day!
Kathy

  2. Good morning! I am LOVING that quilt! Soo pretty. You sound so like me sometimes, lol... "bound and determined" to get something done. I know that feeling soo well. However yesterday I finally had to throw in the towel on a new romper pattern I was trying to make. I just honestly couldn't figure it out. Don't remember the last time that happened, but it did...sigh. Going to try again today with another pattern but the same fabric. Thankfully I was able to cut it out using partially put together pieces from the other pattern. It was Melody's favorite fabric she had sent me....naturally. Or honestly I was tempted to pitch the whole thing into the trash bin, lol. The level of my frustration was that high. Sorry for the LONG comment. Enjoy your day Kathy!

  3. Well ... 3:30 or 4:00 is my usual wake up time.. for the last year I have been going to bed at 8 pm exhaused... but waking early and getting so much stitching and devotion time in .. is really great! I also listen to music on my daughters little speaker so it isn't loud in the house and enjoy a warm drink and slow stitching as I plan out the day ahead... once my dd is off to school my honey is then soon up and our day seems to get so busy with house chores and errands! I cherish those 3 hours early every morning now :) All my friends do think it is wierd though! lol
Love love love that you got to start stitching on your grandsons quilt! You got that put together fast too... you rock a log cabin block... maybe some of your fave pointers for successful log cabin blocks would be a fun post to read if you need ideas! ha :)
Good luck with your daily exercise... I try to move around frequently as well.. it aids the arthritis I have as well! Glad your hubby is willing to help motivate you as well.. it is nice to have a teammate as a mate!
Have a fun day slow stitching Kathy! Kathi

  4. Woo Hoo!!! So glad you are onto the quilting! It is so easy not to exercise - I really have to keep myself motivated too. Have a wonderful day - you may need a nap! ~Jeanne

  5. I have never gotten the audio book on kindle let me know what you think of it if you do. I exercise in the afternoon and hubby when he wasn't working preferred morning. Odd how we have our preferences. To me the fitness center is too busy in the morning and not so much in the early afternoon and I prefer the quite! for my horrible hips though I have tried exercise every day and it just makes my hips hurt too much so I am going to start M-W-F for a couple weeks and see how the hips do (chronic bursitis)

  7. Good for you for making yourself get up and walk. I'm having trouble getting myself back into the routine I used to have. It's so hard to get started once you stop. It won't be long and that quilt will be finished. I really like it alot.

  8. Beautiful quilting, Kathy!
DH and I are trying to walk together after he gets home from work each day. It is too easy for me to skip it when it is cold, but with his encouragement, I layer up and off we go. : )

  9. Walking is a great exercise. For a while I tried audiobooks when walking, and found my mind would wander and I'd lose the thread, so now I just walk. That quilt is gorgeous!

  10. Have a lovely day, I always feel like I can settle down and stitch better if I go walk first. I am ready to get back to my audio books today.
I am almost finished with a rug so I want to get that done today.
I am so glad you mentioned how hard it is to make yourself say up. I have such a hard time anymore, I would love to go to bed with the chickens. :) Have a great day Kathy.

  12. I just noticed that about kindle books - where you could buy the audio afterwards... I wanted to look back on some of my favorite books & see if I could still get the bargain.

3:30??? Wow... I'm going to drink coffee FOR you :)

Another gorgeous blanket about to be finished!

  13. Determination is a wonderful thing - glad you are getting some actual quilting stitches started on that beautiful quilt! I have purchased the Kindle narration and been pleased with it. With my Kindle, at least, when you open the book - at the upper left is an icon for menu. If you click on that it takes you to the picture of the book, and under that a space or two is an "Upgrade with Audio" option.

  14. Wow! That was a fast top to put together. I don't know.... seeing all your beautiful log cabins hand quilted is really making me want to make one to hand quilt.... must not as I really need to finish hand quilting hugs and kisses....and do something with the 10 or so tops I already have completed! A partner in crime for exercise is the best thing. I really miss walking at night with my friends when I was single up in VT - they were 20 and 40 years older than me but that phone call at 6:45 for 'are you walking at 7?' was great. Not to mention the Thursday night knitting after walking with margarita's and home made guac or salsa =).

  15. Good for you, Kathy, on making such incredible progress on the quilt. I love to go for long walks, but I've been using the treadmill for that with all this cold weather. Another reason why I'm counting down until the arrival of spring!

  16. Hi Kathy, Congrats on getting the quilt in the hoop! I got back fabric yesterday(extra wide)and am going to try to get it sandwiched and pinned today. One good thing is that I got the results from my ctscan(haven't heard from the dr. yet),but nothing new showed up...just what I knew. Now I'm going to try to talk her into just removing my ovaries and not everything. All my test results were good, thank you Jesus. Our weather yesterday and today has been almost 70 and I love it. I'm back to walking and desperately need to cut out all sweets and sugar. It will be so hard though.
Hope you have a wonderful afternoon.
    Hugs, Noreen
