Things Are Looking a Little Froggy Here

When I left the sewing room yesterday, I was all set to rejoice that I had all 63 blocks together ready for borders. I laid the top out in my design floor ... and there it was, staring me in the face.
No, I'm not making another spiral log cabin quilt.  Ha!  I had sewn the last row on upside down. :-(

Back to the sewing room I went. I unstitched that last down, rotated it and sewed it back together. And just as I was ready to start cutting binding, I saw it.
See it up there in the upper right hand corner?  I can't believe that I didn't see it when I laid out the top earlier ... I guess that bottom row was too glaring a mistake.  I decided that I was done in the sewing room ... time to pull out my Hexies and get in a little slow stitching.

Today I'll get back into the sewing room, rip out and restitch that offending block in the upper right hand corner and then tackle the borders.  I'd like to get both on, but we'll see ... I'm pretty confident that I can get the inner border on.  And I'll get back to my hexies ... I'm getting close to the end on my MWFG ... I'd like to get started on putting those blocks together, to see it take shape.  I've only been working on this since September, 2013.  I'd say it's time to make these blocks into a quilt, wouldn't you?  ;-)

I finished up my second audiobook yesterday and "checked out" a third one ... book one in a long series.  I can guarantee you right now that there will be books in that series that won't be available as audiobooks.  There appears to be no rhyme nor reason to what books are available as audiobooks and what ones are not.  I'm LOVING listening to audiobooks while I sew ... I wish I'd known about this years ago.  I was an avid reader, so I guess it makes sense that I'd be an avid listener.  Ha!

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy ... have a great day!
Kathy

  2. So glad you are enjoying your audio books as you stitch! It shouldn't take long to fix that offending block and get it in place and sew on some borders.. then slow stitch your afternoon! Wonderful and relaxing it sounds like to me! Enjoy :) Kathi

  3. and here at first before i started to read I thought you had come up with a new kind of layout for the log cabins except I had noticed the top corner and wondered if that part was a mistake! LOL - don't you just hate it when we get a row in wrong!!

  5. Your log cabin is beautiful. It's a good thing to walk away when you get frustrated. Handwork calms me down when I'm like, "Really?!?! I just fixed the arrangement." It'll be worth fixing in the end. www.quiltartbymegan.com

  6. Enjoy listening and stitching... or UN stitching as the case may be!

  7. Bless your heart! That is so frustrating when something like that happens. And you are like me...it has to be right. It will be beautiful when you get it finished.

  8. I usually only see my errors in a photo--somehow that's when I "get it"! I have never listened to audio books--I am an avid reader too and love my Kindle as I can enlarge the print for these old eyes!! Your quilt is very pretty...hugs, Julierose

  10. I also notice my errors after I have taken a picture...so at least it can be fixed without too much work. It is so beautiful!

  11. I agree with Julierose - I usually only see the mistakes in the photo's. I thought you had made a neat dinosaur quilt - his head at the top and then the bumps on his back! I think I have too many dinosaurs in my house =) Smart to take a break and deal with it another day. Enjoy your stitching.

  12. Oh, how frustrating but as much as you sew and quilt, it's bound to happen. But, it is still so very pretty. And, I think I would enjoy audio books but have never tried them. Happy new week!

  13. At least you caught the mistakes before the quilting started! I've made mistakes and not found them until I was quilting. I learned to live with them! The quilt looks great!

  14. I thought the oops in the first pic was the upper right corner. Who knew!!Just when we think we are getting ahead we see what we have done, I sewed 4 blocks together today and couldn't figure out why they wouldn't lay flat...I forgot to square up the units(they were oversized on purpose) unsewed them and put them back together. I feel your pain!!

  15. Oh I am so glad you are listening to books now. I think I sew faster.
It is so good to my mind. I always feel so rested. I didn't see that first oops. I sew like that more often than not. Your quilt is wonderful though.

  16. Oh my! That's happened to me so many times LOL!!! And it's so funny that you didn't seen the top one - I didn't either! Some days it just doesn't pay to even walk into the studio LOL! You're so close to a finish though - exciting!! I love listening to books while I sew too. Sometimes that's the only way I can manage to get my book club book read. Quilting has to come first of course :*)

  17. Don't just hate that when you discover a mistake? Will ALL do it though. I am LOVING this quilt! It's going to be soo pretty. I haven't listened to any books but I am so glad you are enjoying it. I am thinking I might have to look into that too. Hope you had a good day!

  18. It is so frustrating to fix one mistake, think you are all set, and then find another. Very deflating. Smart to walk away until you can get a second wind. : )
Can't believe how quickly you whipped this together!

  19. Good that you noticed the mistakes before the borders went on! Happy stitching and unstitching to you!

  20. Oops! Sorry about those mistakes. I'm sure, by now, you have everything all fixed.
I've never listened to an audio book, but Ed used to listen to 'stories' over the radio, during his long commute to work. He enjoyed them.

  21. That is absolutely beautiful! I'm currently listening to Debbie Reynold's biography. Audiobooks are the best!

  22. Oops... that mistake made me laugh actually. I'm sure you found no humor.
I am really on the Audio Book kick myself now. It really helps me pass the day at work.

  23. I do so hate to have to rip and re-do but I guess it's part of being a quilter. So glad you got the whole audiobook thing figured out. It really is enjoyable to hear a book while you're sewing, at least it is to me. Our library is like that, too. But the price is absolutely right!

I am SO glad you stopped by! No proving that you're a robot here ... I want to hear what you have to say! ;-)
