Happy Valentine’s Day!

DH and I have been married long enough that Valentine’s Day is pretty much a non-event.  He prefers to do something sweet every once in a while, unannounced and unexpected … and I like that much better … it means so much more that he chooses to do it instead of  doing it because he feels obligated to do so.  Besides, it keeps us free and available to watch the Ts if their mama and daddy take advantage of the special day.  Winking smile

Besides, this is the best gift idea for a hubby to give to his quilter sweetheart.Valentine's Day for a quilterThat and time for his sweetie to devote to her obsession passion … something my hubby gives every day, not just Valentine’s Day.  Red heart

I spent Thursday morning quilting while watching Gone With the Wind (my favorite movie!) … I timed it perfectly as it was lunch time when we reached the intermission.  Just as I was heading back to my recliner, I got a phone call from T#1 … the Ts requested Nana’s presence for a Minecraft party.  The kiddos all love Minecraft, even T#4 (she was playing when I took that picture of her on the pool deck here).  They all love the creativity … exploring for a settlement, mining for building materials, building and creating their own villages.  While the game can be played solo, we can also join in someone’s “world” and play together.  While I certainly wouldn’t play Minecraft on my own, I have to admit that it is rather fun to join in occasionally with DD and the Ts.

By the time I got home and finished up with dinner, I was too tired to get back to my quilting, so we watched the first 2 periods of the hockey game before calling it a night.

Yesterday was a movie marathon here at Chez Nana … I finished up Gone With the Wind and then watched Casablanca and Secretariat while quilting.

Like I said, DH and I have no plans to go out and do anything special today.  We’re just a couple of homebodies (me especially).  A dear woman from our old church passed and the visitation is this morning … we plan to go pay our respects (with a stop at Panera on the way for breakfast).  We had talked about doing some shopping afterwards (I want to replace the shower head in the shower in the master bath), but the temperatures here are going to be plummeting, dropping almost 30 degrees over the course of the day.  Too cold for me … I think I’d rather spend the rest of the day home, snuggled under some quilting instead.  Winking smile

Wishing you all a very Happy Valentine’s Day, however you choose to spend it.

Valentine's Day

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  1. we really do not do anything for Valentines Day either - although hubby usually brings some flowers of some sort to me - yesterday he brought in some tulips that are in a glass vase where the roots are resting in water - no dirt - I like that as I can keep the vase and try it out next winter for some flowers - I have seen paperwhites done that that way too sometimes with gravel on the bottom I don't know how they got these to sit up like that as there is no gravel on the bottom but yet the bulbs are resting above the water.
Today very nice - tomorrow very cold

  2. Good morning....your so right, lol, between the two of us we could hit the happy medium in temperature i think. We don't do much for Valentines Day usually either over here. though hubby usually brings me flowers knowing my weakness for them. We will probably spend this Sat like we usually do...with lunch somewhere and maybe a movie. Enjoy your day!

  3. Have an enjoyable day! We aren't doing anything special -- unless you call moving furniture to get ready for new carpet special. Ha! We too prefer to enjoy every day and not get into the commercialism. Last night on the news, they said the average person spends almost $150 on Valentine's Day - meaning $300 for the two of us! So we are really saving money today!!! ~Jeanne

  4. Kathy, as a grandmother whose grands are in their late 20s and 30s I thought maybe I could skip the Minecraft craze. But, no my great nephews are crazy about the game, so I made each of them a Minecraft quilt for Christmas. I must admit I didn't enjoy it that much, and would have never believed I would make blocks like, the Creeper, or Zombie Pigman!

  6. Your movie choices are mine too!!!

The kids are all into Minecraft here too. I have not attempted to join in on the fun yet.

We'll be enjoying a quiet Valentine's too. I hate the crowds on these special days. Give me that movie and a quilt project.

  7. I agree, I do love a surprise gift that is unexpected. I bought some perfume for Mark to give to me today. We bought Ribeye steaks at Costco and are staying in tonight and going to watch Boyhood. I recently bought Gone With The Wind DVD but haven't watched it yet. It has been forever since I've seen it. Happy Valentine's Day!

  8. Love those classic movies, Kathy! Have you seen Random Harvest? One of my favorite old love stories.
I love both of the graphics you shared today.
    Have a great day!

  9. I think working on some quilting on a cold day sounds like a pretty nice way to spend the day, especially if you and your honey can watch something together you both enjoy.

  11. What a sweet post, Kathy! It is good to be old enough to know what you want to do and enjoy doing it, isn't it?

  12. We stayed in too Kathy! Way too cold here - brrrrrrr!!! Hubby and I usually go out to eat, which we did Friday night, and so we just cooked some steaks and salad at home tonight. I made him some brownies and he gave me a small heart tin of chocolates that he said he knew I could use for my sewing notions afterward. He's always so thoughtful, even in the small things :*) Glad you had a lovely Valentine's Day!!!

  14. You're just the coolest grandma ever to play Minecraft with your grandbabies!
I played for Mass last night. Then I went home & finished making spaghetti. No big deal!
