Snow, Super Bowl, and Sunday Deliveries

There was another big snowstorm here in the Midwest this past weekend.  Chicago and areas to the north got anywhere from 12-18” of the white stuff.  After all the snow was removed from our forecast, it was a pleasant surprise to look out Monday morning and see snow here, too.IMG_1201Unfortunately, as you can see, we didn’t get enough to amount to anything and by mid-morning, it was gone.  The meteorologists are all predicting measurable snow tomorrow … but we know how much stock to put into their prognostications … after all, they were promising us 2-3” or more for last Saturday … and we got nary a flake.

Another Super Bowl is under our belts.  I have to be honest and say that it was a fairly exciting game.  Initially I really didn’t care who won, but after a couple of exciting plays, I found myself rooting for the Seahawks, only to have my hopes dashed at the end.  I’m still not a fan of football … I just can’t get into any sport where it takes almost an hour to play the last 11 minutes of the game.  Annoyed

Imagine my surprise when our mail man made a delivery Sunday afternoon.  I know that amazon.com promised a Sunday delivery, but still … I had to see it to believe it.  Sunday delivery.I ordered comic book boards for better organizing my tubs of stash … and a Kim Diehl book.  I recently discovered Kim’s wonderful quilt patterns, and last week while following bloggy rabbit trails, I came across delightful quilt from her Homestyle Quilts book … that led me to her publisher’s website where I saw
andI knew I just “had” to order the book and was pleased to see it still available on amazon.com.

These quilts are now on my to-do list … in addition to the quilt kit I just ordered from craftsy.com. I’ve made so many blue and white quilts and had mentioned to Elaine over at http://brunosmom.blogspot.com/ that I loved red and white quilts, too and wanted to make one … she remembered that and sent me the link.  I’ve been wanting to make a quilt from Minick and Simpson’s Crazy for Red line.  I’m glad she sent me the link when she did … and that I didn’t hesitate … the price for the kit has gone up since the weekend.  Yes, I know I’m going to need to live to be 150 in order to make all the quilts I want to make.

DH has been chomping at the bit to head somewhere warm this winter … and given my aversion to cold, I have to say that I wouldn’t object.  Swim season is in full swing, so we both thought our dreams were just that – dreams … until DH discovered Frontier Airline’s discounted airfare.  Alas, trying to line up discounted airfare, reasonable lodging rates and a block of time where we would be able to travel turned out to be impossible.

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

Sorry your escape to warmer weather isn't working out for you. Hopefully when you get snow it won't be a blizzard as many up north are seeing ! Kathi

  2. Oh, those quilts are gorgeous! So much inspiration for a day I should be cleaning- ha! I'm glad you had a bit of snow - we'd gladly share. Not sure what our final total was but it was well over 12"! . It's pretty but the strong winds really created havoc. And now more is coming... Enjoy today. ~Jeanne

  5. Well you certainly have a wonderful line up quilts to get too. I love them all! I especially love the star one. I will be starting on the babies next week I think. I am anxious to get at it. Haven't quilted in a while. I have 3 in mind for her. One for the nursery (made to Melody's specs!) and one for the floor to play on (made to grandma's liking) and a rag quilt (also my choice) so should be fun. Yes, the football game was quite exciting there at the end. Still can't believe that happened, lol. But made hubby and daughter pretty happy so I was happy too, lol. Have a good day!

  6. I love that star quilt! You are going to have fun with those designs.

Sorry that you couldn't fina a way to escape the cold. Maybe Mr. Groundhog will be as bad at predicting as the weathermen!

  9. I ordered a layer cake from craftsy this weekend and your red and white quilt caught my eye. I almost went back and added it to my order but I know I have too many other quilts already in the fire. We must have very similar taste. I got the Sandy Gervais Red and White and Free for a chevron throw for my daughter in laws birthday in May. I really love those prints, hope it works out. She has an americana theme on her patio and thought a throw would be great sitting around the fire pit.

  10. Kathy...I have no doubt that you will have those quilts cranked out in no time, at all! I'm definitely ready to head to somewhere warmer! This cold weather is beginning to take its toll.

  12. Hi Kathy, I love the quilts you've shown here-you are making me want to start another one! Of course, I spend hours stitching on my current one so probably won't get another kit for quite awhile. I got one new book this winter so may just find a quilt in that to make.
I love that red and white quilt too. No surprise because we seem drawn to many of the same patterns. Sorry you won't be planning a winter escape. After the cost of the surgery and our trip in June, I doubt I'll be planning another unless we drive back to Ca. in May. I hope you have a warm afternoon inside; it is really windy here so doubt I'll even walk later.
    Hugs,
    Noreen

  14. All those are gorgeous quilts! You may not live to be over 100, but your mind will stay sharp! Sigh, not mine so much.

If you want snow, I hope you get some, I'm glad I live where snow is most like a once or twice in a lifetime event!

  15. Such fun projects on your horizon!!! And we are the lucky ones who get to see you bring them to life - yay!!! Love Kim Diehl's designs. She is coming to our guild in September and I can't wait!!!

We are still waiting for any snow of significance too, but I'd really rather it just decide to go ahead and be spring... like tomorrow maybe!!!

  16. I'm like you, not 'into' football, but I, too, enjoyed Sunday night's game.
I had no idea Amazon had Sunday deliveries!
I just knew you and hubby were headed south for a visit! Sorry things didn't work out to make this trip :(

  17. I love all three quilts that you are interested in making. It is always a thrill to start a new project with such hope. Who cares how long it takes to make. As they say it is the journey that counts. Good luck with all your ambitions. And I will look forward to seeing your progress along the way.

  18. Glad you got your quilt kit. It IS really a pretty quilt and you know I like red! And no, I'm pretty sure none of us will live long enough to make all the quilts we keep adding to our lists, but at least we're not bored. ;)

  19. I'm really not much of a sports fan of any type but will watch football occasionally. It was one of the best games we have seen in awhile. (of course for us, it's more about who your watching the game with. We spent the evening with several friends) I love the quilts, especially the red and white one. Sorry your get away plans didn't pan out. We are trying to find some place to vacation soon to celebrate our anniversary this year. Proving to be harder than we thought. Hope you have a nice weekend
