The Weekend Wrap-up

Whoa … where did the weekend go?  I can’t believe it’s Monday already!

Here at Chez Nana, the weekends start on Friday … and what better way to start the weekend than with picking up my new glasses.  I was afraid that with a stronger close prescription, I’d have a more difficult time when looking away after looking close … but my eyes have adjusted well.  I did give my glasses a try-out by spending a little bit of time with needle and thread.  Winking smile

Saturday was a busy day … we worked out in the yard that morning.  Our afternoon and evening were spent at DD’s, celebrating Father’s Day.  We had a wonderful meal (fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans and strawberry shortcake), a great visit with the in-laws, played games … a wonderful time, even if we had to spend the last couple of hours in the basement  (the storms sirens sounded … thankfully the storms went to the north of us).

Sunday was a lazy day … I took advantage of that and spent a good chunk of the day quilting, while watching a couple of movies, including To Kill a Mockingbird.  I read that book back in high school but had never seen the movie.  I’d forgotten most of the story line, so it had me spellbound.

Today we’ve got a contractor coming over to give us a bid on replacing our deck.  The drought and heat last summer took a toll on our deck … several boards need to be replaced, and the entire deck needs to be re-stained.  We think it would make more sense to put the money toward replacing the deck using low/no maintenance materials.  I’d like to make it a little larger, and DH would like to add a roof.

Tonight T#1, T#2 and T#3 will be working at a pizza joint in the small town where their swim team meets … a fundraising effort for their swim team.  Their shift is 8-9PM, and Nana and Papa want to support their efforts.  Thankfully this pizza place sells prepared pizzas to be baked at home, so that’s probably what we’ll buy … I don’t think we want to wait until 8PM to eat nor do we want a second meal.  Winking smile

Between now and then I hope to get caught up on my mini pineapple blocks … hopefully I’ll have some more blocks to share.

  1. Sounds like the best kind of weekend.... good family stuff and safety from storms. Glad you like the new specs and they are working well for you! We are contemplating putting in a deck, and it will include a roof for sure. You'll have to show pics of yours being refurbished :*)

  2. You are indeed blessed to have congenial family close enough to enjoy. Glad the storms missed you. And as we age, eyesight is increasingly precious - whatever we have to do to retain it.

  4. It sounds so nice. What a fun fundraiser. That one is different. Also the new deck sounds fantastic. Like maybe a screened in porch. :)
I know how much time we spend on ours.
It sounds like your weekend was so nice and I can't wait to see your new block.

  5. Hi there, Sounds like a great weekend! I did some sewing on Saturday and still trying to locate more of a chocolate brown fabric I have-if I can't find it at another store this afternoon, I will substitute a tan.
    Have a great afternoon.
    Hugs, Noreen

Your weekend sounds nice, except for the storm sirens! Glad nothing happened.
