Finally–Friday!

As I reported here,  I had the Ts on Monday … and Tuesday and Wednesday.  And might have had them Thursday except DSIL was off for the holiday.  Poor DD … as much as I loved having the Ts, I would have rather had DD feeling better.  She’s feeling better …  not 100% yet, but thankfully she’s feeling well enough to have the kiddos back home with her.

We didn’t do anything special for Independence Day this year … DH wasn’t feeling 100%, so we had a quiet day at home.  I spent my day quilting … I finished up the body of the quilt and am now working on the borders … I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Thankfully whatever “bug” DH had was a short-lived one, so our “road trip” is still on for today.  DH wants to go to a hardware store over in St. Charles … he heard that they have a huge display of decking materials which he wants to check out for our deck reno.  There’s a large quilt shop that won’t be too far out of our way, and I have a coupon for 20% off, so we’ll be stopping there.  DH never complains about stopping at fabric stores, so this time was no exception … although I’m sure that the promise to have lunch at the nearby Potbelly’s didn’t hurt.  Winking smile  I’ll be picking up the fabrics for my next quilt … the paper-pieced storm at sea.  And perhaps I’ll pick up another blue or two for my mini pineapples

We got almost 2” of rain on Tuesday … and of course, that meant standing water in the garden.  <sigh>  DH reported on Wednesday that most of the standing water was gone.  So far our plants seem to be surviving the recurring standing water, but it’s easy to see that they’re not doing as well as they could or should as a result of all that water.  We’ll stop by the garden on our way out of town and see how it’s doing.  I suspect that the ground will be dry enough tomorrow for us to be able to get out and work on the weeds … unlike our plants, the weeds seem to be thriving in spite of almost weekly bouts of standing water.  Sad smile

Am I the only one who thinks that today is Sunday (I thought yesterday was Saturday)?

Have a fabulous Friday!

  1. Good morning! Glad to hear that DD is FINALLY feeling a little better. Goodness that bug didn't sound good. The quilt store and lunch out today though sounds like a perfect day to me. ENJOY!

  2. I've been thinking it was the weekend too! I was shocked when my son said he had to go to work today - why would he go to work on Sunday LOL!!!

I think everyone is having problems with their gardens this year - it's either too hot or too wet or too dry. Sometimes I think I would love to be able to garden, but then I remember how hard it is to have the perfect conditions for one and I settle back down into trying to find fresh veggies from our local growers :*)

So glad everyone is getting back to healthy and you are able to go out and play for a while. Looking forward to seeing what lovelies you bring home from the quilt shop.

  3. I had originally taken today off and was going to have a 4 day weekend. But with all the rain, we decided we didn't want to waste a vacation day, so I'm working instead. :(

But hope you have fun at the quilt shop and at Potbelly's. I really need to check that place out.

I actually spent some time crocheting last night. I think I've missed it more than I thought.

  5. Your poor garden! We have had a ton of rain as well! And the forecast is for more through Sunday. We had water standing in our yard Wed...don't know if I have ever seen that before. The ground is just saturated! But I try not to complain...we have had droughts for the last several years, so I welcome the rain!

  7. I kept thinking today was Saturday instead of Friday!
Sometimes the holidays where you stay at home are the best!

  8. Oh, yes, holiday weeks get me so messed up. This has been the longest week and I'm ready for tomorrow so I can get straight with my days.

Your poor daughter, glad she's doing better.

Know you had fun in the quilting stores. We have a great one not too far from here. I didn't even know it exsisted but DIL chose her fabric for HB's room from there. So, so cute!

    Happy rest of the weekend!

  9. I really am sorry about your garden. We put everything in containers this year (I had been having some problems with my back and just couldn't do any digging) it was a rainy spring, I got everything in late thought I wouldn't have anything...but my vegetables have been doing the best they have in years. I think i am sold on using containers from now on (I just do tomatoes, peppers and squash)
Glad your daughter is doing better. Enjoy the weekend

  10. We had a huge storm last week and it washed so much of my garden away. I was so upset. But now things are starting to come back. I hope yours does too.
I'm glad DIL is feeling better.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

  11. Hi Kathy,You certainly weren't the only one who thought Friday was a different day-must be us retired folk that mix up the days. Glad everyone is feeling better. We went on a long bike ride yesterday and then I napped in the afternoon. Today was church and once I'm done visiting blogging friends, I'll be stitching too.
    Have a great afternoon.
    Hugs, Noreen
