The Weekend Wrap-up – a Day Late

I was all set to do my wrap-up yesterday morning, but I had just gotten out of bed when DD called … she was not feeling well (some kind of tummy bug) and needed me to come get the Ts.  I had just enough time to get dressed and get to her house to scoop up the Ts and get them to swim practice on time.  In order to make up for the delay in getting the wrap-up posted, I’m going to throw in an extra day!  Ha!

We went to visit my dad Friday.  We picked up some homegrown sweet corn and took some out to him … it sure made a nice addition to our lunch.  I know that it’s officially summer when the locally grown sweet corn is in.

Saturday the rains came in, with a heavy downpour and hail to kick things off.
photo (1)It was raining so hard that our gutters and buried drains couldn’t handle it (sorry for the blurriness ... I had to zoom in to get a good shot of the rain overflowing ... I had to take the picture from inside the house).  The “upside” of the rain was that it brought cooler weather … a little too cool to suit me.

Sunday after church, we stopped at the garden.  The ground is wet, but thankfully there’s no standing water.

We’ve got another tomato and a whole lot more blossoms.  Our green beans are holding on, but while our neighbors’ beans are 6’ tall already, ours are only a few inches tall.  We don’t have much hope of getting any green beans.  Our zucchini has another blossom … I couldn’t see any little zucchinis, so we’re afraid that the blossoms we saw a week or so ago were knocked off by the hard rain we had on Monday.  Sad smile  After lunch the last of the decking contractors stopped by.

I got a good amount of quilting done over the weekend.

I’m just about done with body of the quilt … then on to the borders.  Good thing I got a lot of quilting done over the weekend as I didn’t touch needle or thread on Monday.  As I mentioned earlier, DD was sick … so we had the Ts all day.  She was starting to feel a little bit better when I took them back home, but she had a relapse not too long before I came back home.  So we might have the Ts again today (although a part of me hopes not … not because I don’t want T-time, but because I am hoping that DD is over that bug Sad smile).

Have a terrific Tuesday!

  1. Oh no...sorry to hear about the "bug"...hopefully it will NOT make the rounds through the family. I remember those days as a young mother and that was just about the worse...watching one after the other come down with it. Praying she is feeling just fine this morning. She's soo blessed to have you to rely on for that helping hand. Have a good day!

  3. Ugh, I hope that bug doesn't go through the family. Nothing worse!

We are enjoying cooler temps as well, in the mid 80's all week with no humidity. Absolutely wonderful!!!

Quilt is looking good and I can't wait to see the finished product.

OH, love your new blog design!

  4. What a wonderful mom and nana you are! When it comes to the flu, I tend to stay away-maybe take food over etc. Loved hearing about your weekend! O.k. so is that tape on your quilt you are using for guides? I always wondered whether gals use it or not. When I first started quilting 20 years ago-I used 1/4" tape as a guide, but I don't remember what the pattern was. Now I just mark the fabric. I'm on the last row of flowers and will start the stitch in the ditch today. Happy sewing, hope DD is all better.
    Hugs, Noreen

  5. That is so nice you are there to help. I remember having to do it all alone. That is so hard. My son had the flu for 4 days.
I just haven't figured out how. Not this time of year.
I am glad your garden is producing. Can you believe all of the rain you have had this year? After last year it just blows my mind. Also hoping that maybe we will get rain like that.
Have a nice day. I do hope your daughter feels better today.

  6. Uh oh, sorry to hear that "the bug" is going around! I hope your daughter is better today, and that the bug stops with her!

Your weather sounds a good bit like ours. The summer of 2013 will be remembered as a "wet one" here.

  11. Sorry your daughter is sick...glad you are able to help. Happy to hear you are getting something out of your garden. We've picked a few tomatoes and enough squash to stew up a pan full. We''re getting the monsoons you've been talking about...had close to 10 inches in two weeks!

  12. Oh, I hope she's over that bug by now! AND that you didn't get it!

It's raining here too.....I just got a flash flood alert on my phone and it is raining so hard, my gutters are overflowing too and so is my pool! Well, almost on the pool, it's the highest it's ever been even during a hurricane!
