The Weekend Wrap-up

In spite of it being a 4-day weekend, this weekend flew by.  Time is just plain flying by … hard to believe that we’re zeroing in on the middle of July, when it feels like mid-May to me.  Winking smile

DH and I were finally able to take our “much-anticipated” road trip over to St. Charles to check out decking materials.  There are sure a lot of choices … different products, colors, post caps, railings, lighting, etc.  I know that I was able to narrow down my choices … DH?  I’m not so sure.

After we finished up at the hardware store, it was time for lunch … at Potbelly’s.  Mmmm mmmm mmmm  I ordered a bag of Popchips to go with my sandwich … it’s kind of like potatoes meeting puffed rice cakes.  I had the new sweet potato “chips”, and I enjoyed them more than I thought I would.

Our last stop of the day was, in my not so humble opinion, the best one of the day … although DH might not agree with me on that.  Winking smile  I was good and stayed focused on fabrics for my storm at sea quilt, choosing a white-on-white and several pretty blues.

I also picked up a package of foundation papers … I’m hoping to make 80 blocks, so I don’t want to run out of foundation papers.  After I got home, I wasn’t sure I purchased quite enough blues … my app had yardage for a 3-color storm at sea, so I had to estimate yardage requirements for a 2-color quilt … and I was hoping to use a little of some of those blues for my miniature pineapples.  I ordered a couple more blues online.

I got a phone late Saturday morning inviting me to join DD and the Ts at the Y for an afternoon of swimming.  What fun!  T#4 actually did a little floating (actually bobbing) in the water on her own.  The bigger 3 all took to water like fish, but #4 has wanted nothing to do with water.  Granted, she had a floating device on her back, but the fact that she wasn’t clinging to anyone was huge.

On the way home, I stopped off at the garden.  The green beans aren’t growing and are looking rather puny … I have little hope that they’ll produce anything.  My zucchinis are stunted but looking good.  I’m not sure what’s going on with them … it looks like all the blossoms we’ve had so far have just dried up and died.  ??  There are several blossoms on a couple of the plants … hopefully these will actually turn into zucchinis.  Our tomatoes are looking pretty good, too.  Like the zucchinis, they’re stunted, but they’ve got plenty of blossoms … and unlike the zucchinis, these blossoms are turning into tomatoes.

Sunday was a nice quiet day.  After church, I spent the afternoon with needle and thread.  I’ve got half the border quilted … I’m hoping to have the quilting done and the binding on by next week’s Weekend Wrap-up … and maybe a block or two of my storm at sea.

Have a marvelous Monday!

  1. As always, it's always good to catch up with what's been going on with you.

I guess 2013 just wasn't the year for gardening! So many of our plants died without producing much of anything either. We planted more than necessary, so it worked out okay for us. I hope you'll be eating fresh tomatoes soon :)

Your storm at sea quilt sounds like something I'd love!

Hope your littlest "T" continues to get over the fear of the water :)

  2. How nice. I love those blues. I can't wait to see that one. You know I don't know if I have ever seen the pattern, "Storm at Sea." I will look forward to that.
It was too short of a weekend. How nice you got to go swimming. I think your garden looks pretty good after all of that rain you have had.
I bet you are excited about your deck too.
I hope you have a wonderful week.

  5. What a lot of blues in that shade--must be a great quilt shop. I don't think my local ones have that many of any one shade.
I've never been able to get green beans to produce, so I finally gave up growing them. We are having a pretty good year for gardens here, but my green onions dried up and died--don't know why. Think I have 4 left. Looks like I'll be buying those all year. : (

  6. Oh my goodness....I'm drooling....sweet potato chips? That sounds awesome!!! Are they bagged? Can we find them in the chip aisle at the grocery store? Or is it Potbelly's specialty?!!!

  7. We slept in O'Fallon, MO Sat night on our way back north from our trip. I wished I had more time to spend in the St. Louis area, but time to get home.

  8. Hi there, Love your blue fabrics and spotted one I know I've used in the past. What a busy weekend; I can well imagine how hard it is to choose a deck color. I had really wanted to redo ours but since hubby wants to move, he won't do any work on the yard. Oh well.
I'm going to make the binding today and hopefully start sewing it on tonight.
Hope you have a wonderful Monday.
    Hugs, Noreen

  9. What do you do with all those quilts! You zoom through them so quickly!!!

If its not the heat, its the rain... can you imagine what big time farmers deal with?

I either love or hate sweet potato chips or fries... it depends on who makes them

  10. I love your blues for your storm at sea quilt! Can't wait to see it when you begin. It truly is amazing how fast the time goes by! It is hard to believe that it is July - we leave in August for a couple of months and I keep thinking it is a long way off - ha! Have a great week. ~Jeanne

  12. There seems to be so many choices for everything.

You are the Queen of Quilting I do believe! I love the all the blue colors.

Hopefully your garden will produce enough for you all to have a little "good eatin" out of it.

    Have a wonderful week!

  13. Love hearing about your quilts. You inspire me to get busy with my crafts. So for the last couple of days I've been doing quite a bit of crocheting. Loving it again. I realized I've actually been missing it lately.

  14. Never heard of Potbelly's put I would choose sweet potato too! I just watched something about teaching little ones how to float in case of pool accidents. I was amazed by it and how quickly these little ones went right to their backs. Hooray for tomatoes. I just took 2 in the house today!
