We left early Monday morning and made really good time ... we stopped in Asheville, NC, home to the Biltmore Estate. I had thoughts of spending a little time there (we were in the hotel by 4:30) until DH told me how much the tickets were selling for ... since we only had a couple of hours (assuming they were even open that long), we decided to pass this time.
As we headed out for dinner, we noticed that the Blue Ridge Parkway passed within a mile or so of our hotel ... DH was been wanting to drive along the length of the BRP for the longest time, so we had to take a drive. It was beautiful ... and I can only imagine the sights we'd see up in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia and the Smokies in Tennessee. Since we will be passing back through on our way to Hilton Head in September, we're thinking seriously about adding a few days to our trip, driving up to Virginia and taking in the BRP. We won't be too far out of our way at the end in Tennessee ... we can hop back on I-26 and head on to HHI. Now comes the fun part ... plotting out our drive. If any of you all have any advice or tips, please share! ;-)
(Forgive the less than spectacular quality of the photos ... I only had my iPad with me).
We arrived on the island Tuesday ... it didn't take long to get unpacked and settled in our condo. Not when this is calling us!
THAT is why we're here.
I brought my hexie project with me to work on while on the beach and I have several books on my iPad, so we've got our rainy day covered ... with not too shabby a view from our patio.
Have a wonderful time. I am enjoying the photos!
ReplyDeleteSounds SOOO good to me! ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteit looks pretty - where did you end up SC or further south. We were in the BRP area awhile back and I think we went part of the same way as you did as we just about passed the Biltmore too - would love to see it some day
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a very lovely place to visit! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip. It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love HHI so much! Hope you have sunny days ahead! Yes, and I can assure you that driving along the BRP will be worth your time...BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you got to post from your trip, the sights are wonderful. Have fun. The beach looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWell I am glad you decided to blog! Loved seeing your photos. I hope the weather clears for you, that beach looks heavenly!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are there safe and sound...and that is a lovely view! BRP is a beautiful drive. We did a short piece many years ago coming south from Philadelphia. We loved the views, but you don't make good time..so prepare to be leisurely!! :-) Enjoy the beach...but use your sunscreen!!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to hear from you. Glad you had a good trip. We have toured the Biltmore and when you have the time it is worthwhile and worth planning. The grounds are also awesome. We have driven the Blue Ridge Parkway several times and LOVE it. It doesn't matter which section you drive. It is also nice to get off the road and perhaps do a small hike. It can get congested near the Gatlinburg area. Thanks for the photos.
ReplyDeleteI love that area, so scenic in the Blue Ridge Mts. I also love the beach in the early morning. Sounds like you are having a lot fun!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time! Hope this is all of the rain. ~Jeanne

ReplyDeleteLoving the photos and so glad you are planning the parkway on your next trip to HHI :) Enjoy rain or shine! And keep the pics coming please :) Kathi
ReplyDeleteYour little corner of paradise looks heavenly! Enjoy your time there (and think of me!)
ReplyDeleteHi there, I hope by now you are getting some serious warmth! We have rain this afternoon, to be honest I'm so ready for warm weather. Lovely sights; we've driven from WVA to Hilton Head many years ago. We all love that area and at the time the prices were cheaper than going to the islands.
ReplyDeleteMay have to get back there this coming year.
Hope you had a wonderful vacation!
Hugs, Noreen
