Wednesday Hodgepodge

After a break from the Hodgepodge (the Hodgepodge requires some heavy duty thinking, and that’s just something I don’t do when at the beach!), I’m baaaaack!

1. What news story are you following right now?

Between being at the beach for a couple of weeks and a busy weekend upon our return, I haven’t seen the news to be following any stories.

2. What's the last thing you wanted but didn't get?

Another week at Hilton Head?  Winking smile

3. May 28th is National Hamburger Day...when did you last have a hamburger? Other than your own kitchen or BBQ grill, where is your favorite place to go for a hamburger? And for all you non-meat eaters out there...when you're invited to a cookout what is the one side dish you hope is on the menu?

We had burgers yesterday at DD’s to celebrate T#2’s birthday.  If we’re going to have burgers, I prefer them cooked out on the grill, but if we’re going out for burgers, my favorite place has got to be Five Guys.  Love me a little bacon cheeseburger and a little Cajun fries!  Yum!

4. How have your priorities changed over time?

I used to be so fastidious about keeping the house neat and tidy.  The minute I’d see a smudge, I’d whip out the cleaner and cloth and take care of it.  Now … not so much.

5. What's a favorite memory with your grandparents?

I remember a candy dish filled with lemon drops.  Playing shuffleboard in their basement.  Leckerli and chocolate spritz cookies every year at Christmas.

6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being fantastic!), how good are you at multitasking? Share an example.

I’m a woman, therefore I multitask, right?  An example?  How about yesterday:  getting caught up on my recorded episodes of NCIS, doing laundry, checking email and Facebook on my iPad … all while hand stitching.

7. How would you summarize your highs and lows for the month of May?

Low: leaving Hilton Head.  High: returning home to my favorite people.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Hard to believe … but the Queen of Random is having trouble coming up with a random thought today.  Surprised smile

  2. 1-I no longer follow the news it is too depressing
2-more fabric - I'm trying hard not to buy more but to use the stash
3-last hamburger was on the road to my mom's at the beginning of the month - it wasn't good - if I don't have them at home I have them at a place called CJ's Burgers - good big burgers
4-priorities would be the same as yours - not so much keeping the house perfect
5-chocolate cake - grandma had sheet cake every time we visited
6-I would say I am a 10 at multitasking - I always seem to be doing 10 things at once.
7-low daughter asking for a loan - high visiting with sister and brother who live far away
8-random thought - if children need a loan they should know to pay it back!

  5. Wow, you're quite the multi-tasker, aren't you?!

I'm always sad to leave the beach, too... I don't think I could ever get tired of it!

  6. 1. What news story are you following right now?

After 12 years as a 911 dispatcher, I try to avoid the news, it is filled with sadness and horrible things people do to each other, but I still try to catch updates on anything related to the families of from the Oso Landslide.

    2. What's the last thing you wanted but didn't get?

To see friends in Arizona when we are vacation, but time was to tight!

    3. May 28th is National Hamburger Day...when did you last have a hamburger? Two weeks ago at the Burger Barn in Darrington, WA after delivering quilts and blankets to the Oso landslide area. Other than your own kitchen or BBQ grill, where is your favorite place to go for a hamburger? Burgerville for the Black Bean and Chipotle burger, messy, yummy and tastes amazing and I am NOT a vegetarian. Or one of the many little mom and pop burger joints in our area. Sidedish? Sweet Potato Fries!

    4. How have your priorities changed over time?

Yes, I used to be superwoman, working full-time, going to school full-time, cleaning, cooking, volunteering. Now I realize one of the reasons I am ill is due to never taking time for me. So, when I am tired, I rest and I never overdo anymore for anything. If someone tells me my kitchen floor is dirty, I will gladly hand them the broom!

    5. What's a favorite memory with your grandparents? I spent all my summers with my grandparents, but I think the best was when we shared an apartment with them when my dad was in Viet Nam and they had to go out of town for several months. My grandma gave me the key to their room and told me I could sleep in there while they were gone. As good as having my own room! So many to choose from!
    6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being fantastic!), how good are you at multitasking? I would have said 10+ a few years back, but now with memory issues, probably a 4, I forget in the middle of one task what I was doing and head off in another direction.

    7. How would you summarize your highs and lows for the month of May?

Low: Realizing yesterday how truly lonely I am because my husband and I do nothing as a team anymore or go anywhere together. High: Yesterday when the school called me to tell me my granddaughter was in a fight but didn't instigate it and then hearing how the other girl pulled her hair, my grand walked away. The other girl spit in her face, grand continued to walk away. Other girl punched her, grand walked away. Other girl hit her nose and grand had enough and fought back. The other girl tried to say grand started it but after seeing grands IPOD and other kids where the girl said she was going to fight her and then pulling cameras and seeing she followed her all over campus. I am very proud I taught her to try your best to walk away!

  7. Somehow the hodgepodge crept up on my and I missed it. I enjoyed this as always! I bet it was hard to leave the beach...but there's always the lure of those grands. Multitask is just what we do isn't it? haha Enjoy your day!

  8. Leaving the beach is depressing. I remember my grandmother have a candy dish around-filled with candy.

  9. Your multitasking sounds a lot like mine.

I'm pretty sure that your T's will have the fondest of memories of you one day. I'm so hopeful mine will too.

    Happy rest of the week!!

  13. Very first time I had Five Guys I was disappointed but now I love them! I agree, my house being perfect is not high on my priority list anymore. Great memory about the candy dish, that was definitely something almost all grandparents had in their home.

  14. I are at Five Guys one and you are right...pretty tasty! Even when I'm at home, I don't keep up with the news much...can't believe it anyway!! :-)

  15. Five guys... yummy! I've taken he kids once - they loved the peanuts.
Glad you had a good vacation... and have the next one booked =). I do think most women multitask.... nothing would get done otherwise! Have a great weekend.
