Thursday’s This-n-That

It took me a full 6 hours, but I got the laptop set up Tuesday … although I did have to do a little more work yesterday and again this morning.  Wow … I sure didn’t remember it taking this long last time.  I certainly don’t remember encountering as many problems last time as I did this time.  Surprised smile  And I certainly didn’t expect to encounter problems installing some programs on my new laptop … programs that run perfectly well on my old laptop encountered problems (installed with very limited functionality or wouldn't install at all) on the new one (both operate with Windows 7).  I had to upgrade my email program ($$$) … because the old program was no longer supported by Microsoft, all attachments were blocked (for security).  What good is an email program if I can’t open attachments?  Surprised smile

By the time I finished setting up the laptop, I was worn out … DH brought home carry-out and we watched the hockey game (flipping over to the World Series during the intermissions).

Thankfully I was rested enough yesterday to get in plenty of time with my needle and thread.  Just in time as my callous was about to disappear.  I’m almost halfway done with the final row of outer-row blocks on T#1’s spiral log cabin.  I’m hoping to get that row finished today so I can start on the border.  I was hoping to get this quilt finished and gifted before we leave for “paradise”, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen.

The forecasted low for Friday evening keeps getting revised … lower!  Now we may well get temps in the lower 20s!  Surprised smile  Definitely time to break down the garden.  The advantage to having not gotten around to potting some annuals this summer is that I don’t have to bother with cleaning them up this fall.  Winking smile

I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that brings you joy! Have a great day!
Kathy

  1. after reading that I am so glad hubby takes care all of the stuff for the computers I am so computer illiterate!!
I potted some of my herbs yesterday as I would like to see if I can keep them alive in the house over the winter - supposed to have a cold winter here with temps dropping 30 or below already this weekend.

  2. I have such a love/hate relationship with technology!!! I keep telling my husband that if anything ever happens to him, I won't be able to have a computer or a tv or anything else. I get so frustrated! My new laptop has 8.1 software - talk about a nightmare!!!! Glad yours is almost up and running for you, and you can now focus on finishing up your quilt :)

  3. Good morning! Well I am totally impressed that you can DO all that to a computer...I wouldn't have the slightest idea. I just want to open my lap top and have it do what I want it to. Which plenty of times it just doesn't...frustrating! Glad you got yours all taken care of. Yes, sounds like your cooling WAY down over there. I was excited when I checked our upcoming weather as Sat's high is only 68! YAY! We've been hovering around in the upper 70's and even some lower 80's. I will be glad when it's at least chilly, lol. I can't seem to keep my goals for sewing each day on track. I seem to have something everyday that distracts me. Today I have to run to the dentist AGAIN. Another tooth has broken. For years and years and YEARS I never had a cavity or a single issue of any sort, and now suddenly they seem to be falling apart, lol. Have a GOOD day Kathy!

  4. Glad your computer is set up and working! I spent part of the morning on the phone to Garmin - our GPS decided not to accept updates anymore! Oh technology! The forecast isn't going to be the best for all of the little witches and goblins tomorrow - sure hope the rain holds off. ~Jeanne

  5. Glad you got it all figured out. I leave that computer stuff to Greg (yes, I was a programmer but I hate all the install stuff!). Hope the needle and thread therapy was therapeutic.

  7. I hate all of that techy stuff. It consumes way too much valuable time.

  8. Oh, Kathy, I feel your pain. I absolutely detest getting a new anything electronic. Nothing is easy these days with a new toy. However, once they're up and running - I'm happy with them. Another learning curve I'd just as soon skip!

  9. Sorry you had so much trouble with your laptop. My DH wants to get a new PC and I dread it, the setting up process. I think our PC is fine, it is our internet speed that is the problem.

  10. I think that is the worst job in the world, getting another computer up and running. It is just such hard work.
At least it is running now.
I hope you have a great Friday!
