Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

I’m so glad it’s Friday!  Even though I’m retired, and yes, every day is the same as the weekend, I still find myself looking forward to the weekends.  Winking smile

And I’m especially looking forward to this coming weekend because it’s time for Daylight Saving Time!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Daylight Saving Time!  I don’t mind getting up before sunrise (doing so gives me a chance to see some of God’s beautiful handiwork), and I love having daylight after dinner.  In December, I was ready to go to bed right after dinner because it had been dark so long, it just seemed like it ought to be bedtime!  ha!  I’d be happy if we had Daylight Saving Time all year long!

It’s so sunny outside … I’m ready to head outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.  Oh wait, it’s still chilly.  Ok, maybe I’ll spend the day inside … quilting (of course).  But it’s going to get nice and warm next week … in the 70’s all week, with 77 forecast for Tuesday!  Now those days will definitely be days to spend outside!

Speaking of quilting, I’m continuing to make good progress.  I’m getting pretty close to having 1/2 of the blocks quilted … and of course, there’s the borders on top of that.  I spent a good chunk of yesterday quilting … while watching The Big Sleep, then listening to the Cardinals win in Grapefruit League play, and then watching the Blues win another game.

I’m still doing well with my switch from Diet Coke to iced tea.  Do I miss my Diet Coke?  Yeah … a little.  It’s more convenient to just pop open a can of soda than to lift the top off my cup, add ice cubes, pour in the iced tea.

And I do miss, a little, the crisp, refreshing taste of a Diet Coke.  But I don’t miss that enough to switch back.

It’ll be two weeks tomorrow that we’ll be on our way to southern Florida for Spring Training.  We’ve been doing some planning on what we plan to do on the days we don’t watch the Cardinals.  It looks like we’ll visit Everglades National Park; we had hoped to get there last spring, but we ran out of time.  We plan to see the flora and fauna of the Everglades and do some hiking.  Every spring that we go to southern Florida, I hope to be able to see a manatee ... while I’ll be tempted, I’ll spare those nearby … and refrain from singing Winking smile.

  1. Thanks for the reminder about daylight savings time! I had completely forgotten. Your spring training trip sounds like lots of fun, I'm in the process of giving up soda, too.. fell off the wagon this week but still moving ahead!

  3. I'm looking forward to the time change too! It was hard when I was working but now I love it! I'm envious of your Florida trip. We used to live in Fort Lauderdale and enjoyed our time there. Now we just get very random visits! ~Jeanne

  4. You should have a very interesting baseball season upcoming for you. Unfortunately, I feel my set of birds (the Blue Jays) are in real tough.

  6. Have a great time at spring training. The Man and I are in the Tampa area now, planning to see a few games. Last year, we were in Arizona. Happy to be back in Florida this time. We will make our way down to Fort Myers and Miami before heading back to Texas in a couple months.

  7. I remember switching from Pepsi to diet Pepsi and diet Pepsi to water. It was hard at the time but I haven't missed it in years! So, there is hope! My granddaddy used to take me to all the Braves home games when I was little but I've never enjoyed baseball since he passed. Hubs and DoodleBug and my brother? They LOVE baseball! They're almost worse than I am about football. LOL Enjoy spring training and Florida!

  8. I guess I'd get used t it if it was always DST, but it's the switching I never could stand!

My Hubby and I went to Florida during Spring Training a couple of years ago, but we didn't go to any games as we had planned. We were expecting Grapefruit League prices to be comparable to Minor League ball. For regular season prices, we decided to wait for the regular season! We might have gone to a few if we'd budgeted for about 5 times more a game. :( Have a wonderful trip and enjoy the games, but as a Reds fan I can only wish YOU well, not your team! ;)

  9. So YOU'RE the reason we have to change our clocks! I HATE doing it - - - I don't really care WHICH time they pick, but pick one and STICK WITH IT already.

It takes my old self toooo long to adjust to the change.

  10. Hi Kathy, Great Friday post! I love that you are still quilting, even with the nice weather-mine is at night only while I watch t.v. Our weather is just like yours until next Sat.-but it will be spring like all week-yippee! In fact, I'll be able to bike every day, yes-I really need to firm up before our vacation. In '06 we went on a cruise and after we docked we toured the Everglades and I was amazed at how beautiful they were(I had never been drawn to them before). Your trip will be wonderful.
    Have a great weekend.

  11. Hello!from S.E. MN! Thanks for stopping by my blog! It's beautiful here, also. Has warmed up but the wind is amazing! DH took off this morning for a Patriot Guard flag line for the funeral of a nearby community veteran. My bike fired but my body decided that quilting would be a better past time for me today....warmer biking days ahead;-) (I suspect that my bike makes a whole lot more noise than yours!) Hugs.....

  14. Yes, I'm with you, love Daylight Savings time. Hubby went to Braves Spring Training a few years ago and had such a good time. He went with a friend so I didn't have to go. :o) Happy new week!
