Wednesday Hodgepodge

It’s Wednesday again … and time for the Hodgepodge!

1. Spring is in the air (at least in my neck of the woods) and the birds are singing...what's your favorite bird?

This is tough.  I guess I’ll choose the pelican.  There’s a certain majestic beauty about them when they’re in flight … and when I see pelicans, I know I’m at the beach!  Click on the picture below to see the pelicans more closely.

2. Speaking of you tweet? If so tell us your screen name and we'll come flocking to your Twitter site. Even if you don't let's all pretend here that we do-in 140 characters or less, sum up your week so far.

No, I don’t tweet.  My week has been a busy one so far. Cleaning carpets, quilting, watching hockey/baseball/grands’ soccer.  I hope that’s 140 characters or less … I don’t intend to count.  Winking smile

3. Its been reported recently that employers are not only viewing the facebook pages of potential hires but they're also requesting your facebook password to have a look at what you've kept from public view. What say you?

I think that’s just wrong.  I don’t see how that’s any different than demanding to see a prospective employee’s private correspondence (written, emailed, texted).  If a prospective employer wants to check out a PUBLIC Facebook page, that’s all well and good … but the line is drawn when they want the password.  If I were the prospective employee, I’d say “no thanks”.  I’m not sure I’d want to work there anyway … if that’s what they ask of prospective employees, what are they going to ask of employees?

4. It's April and you know what that means-Major League Baseball is back in action. What's your favorite baseball movie? If that's too hard, what's your favorite sports themed movie?

I’m a fan of baseball … but baseball movies, not so much.  I guess if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Field of Dreams.

5. Something else this season brings-asparagus. Yes please or no thanks? If it's yes please what's your favorite way to have it prepared?

Yes please!  Roasted, with shaved parmesan cheese … and tossed with a little balsamic vinegar before serving.

6. What drives you? (Don't you love how I sandwiched that one in between asparagus and jugglers???)

My desire to leave my daughter and grands a lasting legacy.

7. April 18th is International Jugglers Day...can you juggle?

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Here is the complete block that I pieced together Monday evening while watching the Blues defeat the Sharks.  I pieced another half block as well … only 79 1/2 more to go.  Winking smile

  1. Your quilt is going to be beautiful! Gorgeous colors! I almost included the pelican...they're such funny birds. They look almost prehistoric. Hoping to see some up close in just a couple of weeks : )

  2. Oh my gosh....I love the quilt so far!!!! It's amazing. I too, as you know, love baseball ---but movies about baseball? Nah!! Now when it comes to pelicans, I love to watch flight, and just squatting on the piers or tackling each other at the shrimp boats for the refuse catch....they're amazing.

  4. Kathy...if that's any indication of what your quilt will look like when it's all said and done, it's going to be so pretty! You are such a talent! I absolutely love your answer to #6 and I'm in total agreement! Have a happy Wednesday!

  5. Totally agree with you on the Facebook thing! Your quilt block is beautiful. I love blue and white.

  6. Did I just find a hockey friend? WAHOOOO!

  7. leaving a legacy.. nice.. .like that idea!

  8. I like that quilt block, I love the colors. I like the blue and white and the red center. Don't you just doing log cabins.
It always makes sense to me. I pull my hair out over pinwheels.
I like pelicans too. I love watching them.
You know I have never seen that movie. Since I have that name, I need to at least watch that movie don't you think?
When my Mom was young, her boyfriend was a baseball player named Johnny Callison. He played for Cincinnati Reds. She loved baseball and if my Dad got home on Saturdays and if she was watching that team there would be a fight.
The year they won the world series, I had a steer I was raising for the fair, that was what I named him. Cincinnati,
    The big red machine. :)
I liked your questions. I don't tweet either because Face book is enough.
    Have a great Wednesday!

  9. I love pelicans too! They are so fun to watch fly over the water and then nosedive down and make a big splash as they go for a fish. They are amazing!

  10. Love that quilt block..beautiful! I said sea gulls for the same reason, it means I'm near the beach!

  11. I love your answer to the Facebook question--there's a lot of truth there!

Pelicans are among my favorite birds, too, I always look for them at the beach :)

I love what you've done with the quilt!

  12. I am near the neach so I see seagulls evrywhere. They are nosiy, icky birds to me, but I can understand the assoication because I do like the beach too. My favorite bird is the Bald Eagle but they don't sing.

Love your quilt with the blues in it.It's very stiking.

  13. I don't think anyone else said Pelican today! Makes me wish I picked up the asparagus I saw yesterday. It was Field of Dreams for me too. Love your answer for what drives you!!

  14. The quilt is going to be beautiful-not many people quilt anymore. Love the answer to what drives you.

  15. I love the colors in your quilt. My favorite shade of blue. It will be beautiful when it's done. :)

  18. I like the quilt pattern! Very intricate looking! I agree with you about FB; they are really crossing the line with expecting people to give them their password. Love asparagus :)
