The Weekend Wrap-up

I know that it was a short week anyway, what with Monday being a holiday, but that was one. short. week!

The weekend got off to a pretty busy start ... I got my hair cut Friday morning, and on my way home, I stopped to do a little shoe shopping (buy one get one half off, so of course I bought a couple pairs). I also stopped to get my glasses adjusted (our vacation got off to a rather scary start when I stumbled on the porch when we checked into our rental house ... I slammed into the door, knocking off my glasses ... they were bent all out of shape.  Thankfully I didn't end up with the shiner that we all expected, and I was able to twist my glasses back into shape ... at least good enough to see until we got back home and I could get them properly adjusted). I had plans to spend the rest of the day quilting, but I was only able to get in a couple of hours with needle and thread. We had to spend most of the evening in our basement ... we were under a tornado warning. There were three EF3 tornadoes that touched down within 45 miles of our little town (including one just 7-8 miles from our house), and there were straight-line winds that hit the nearby large town that left much of the town without electricity (some are still without power this morning) and caused some fairly significant damage.

By the time the rains moved out Saturday morning, we'd gotten 3 inches of rain - in 24 hours. Our garden is under water.  :-(  The rest of the day was dreary and chilly ... not much good for anything besides quilting ... and catching up on Season 10 NCIS ... with the start of the baseball season and the hockey playoffs in April and our trip in May, I hadn't had time to watch the last four episodes.  While this season's finale wasn't quite as dramatic as last season's, it was suspenseful and I'm still anxious to see what happens next.

Sunday, after church, we "gambled" that in spite of the cooler weather and ominous clouds, it wasn't going to rain so we stopped at the local nursery and picked up mulch and flowers. While DH mowed, I spread mulch (I told DH that 6 bags wouldn't be enough - ha!) and planted flowers.  That wore me out - which led to another excellent opportunity to do some more quilting on T#4's quilt after dinner.

  1. Hi there, So very thankful that you are o.k. Often, in the past, when we get warnings, I watch the t.v. for the constant updates. Our basement is right next to our family room so am able to race down if needed. Two Colorado storm chasers were killed in Oklahoma this weekend in a tornado.
Love the pastels in this quilt. Can you please bottle some of your determination and follow through and send it to me. I'm still waiting to find out whether the baby is a girl or boy-then I'll have to crunch on the sewing/quilting.
    Sending you love today.

  4. Glad the storms stayed away from you.

Now, hoping you drain dry & your garden survives all the water.

  5. Those tornadoes are so scary on television---I can't even imagine how terrifying they must be in 'real' life. Last week was short but the four days we had a school seemed to drag on forever! Maybe it had something to do with this being the last week of school and me wanting it to get here. LOL

  6. It sure has been a scary weather week/weekend. Hope it is OVER but being realistic, probably not ;( Glad you are fine with no damage. We got in one walk and one tball game -that was about all for outside. Looking forward to a better week... ~Jeanne

  7. So very glad you guys didn't get blown away.

I'm needing to do some mulching too. Been putting it off.

I agree on the NCIS ending. Still waiting to see what happens though.

    Love that quilt.

  8. Tornados can be really scary, they seem so random, you never really know where they are going to touch down. Luckily we don't have them too often here...no basements in this area to protect from a storm.
We still haven't even bought our mulch yet...kind of been an unusual spring...it is on the list though

  9. So glad that you are all OK and your house is as well. That must be scary to spend so much time in the basement - glad you have a basement! The quilt looks great!

  10. I am so glad that tornado wasn't any closer. Is that common? F3s are pretty big. The quilt is so pretty. I love that you hand quilt.
It was a very short week. I hope this week is a nice week and you might be able to get in your garden. How scary about your glasses. Especially on vacation. I like your new profile picture.

  14. Glad you are ok. It does seem to be either feast or famine with the weather lately. Tornado's terrify me since I am not familiar with them... none in VT growing up. Sounds like you got a good day of yard work in on Sunday and some quilting. You go girl. Oh - glad the glasses were fixable. Mine got twisted twice on vacation a couple of years ago by my 2 year old. I was amazed Walmart was able to bend them back both times without breaking them. No to go find your Wednesday hodgepodge =)

  15. Sorry about your fall but glad you were okay. Also thank God you were safe from the storms. That is so scary and especially after everything we have seen in Oklahoma. Glad you have the basement. I love the colors of your quilt.
