Tuesday Trivia

The weather here has been just plain delightful … and I’ve got the sunburned nose and back of the neck to prove that it’s just too nice to stay inside.  However, today I really need to stay inside and get some more triangle blocks pieced.  I have said that I will sew in the evening, but by the time we finish up with dinner, I’m just too worn out to sew … even hexies.  I was talking to DD yesterday about how while my mind definitely doesn’t feel my age, my body is beginning to take exception to my mind’s perception … I’m not as young as I used to be (or as I think I am - ha!).

We’ve had a family situation that has been weighing very heavily on my mind lately … while it’s not resolved, it’s at a point where we feel fairly comfortable enough to be able to leave as planned for Hilton Head next week.  If you all have the inclination to pray for this situation (I can’t share more as the story isn’t mine to tell), I would appreciate it … I know we’ll have a greater sense of peace knowing that there are others lifting this situation to the Lord.

We checked our garden yesterday … and our poor zucchini plants didn’t look like they were long for this world.  Sad smile  We watered them and agreed that if they weren’t looking any better this morning, we’d replace them.  We had trouble with zucchini last summer, but we attributed it to the poor soil and low grade of the community garden plot we were assigned.  But even so, they took off and looked like we’d have plenty of zucchini … but slowly died off as they reached maturity.  Thankfully the plants look wonderful this morning … I wonder if it was too warm for them so soon after planting (it was pretty warm yesterday … it got up to 89-90, depending on the source).  I guess we’ll plan on keeping them well watered until they get “settled in”.  Everything else in the garden is looking good.

DH and I aren’t huge fans of Mexican food so we didn’t celebrate Cinco de Mayo yesterday.  But we did get a big laugh out of this a friend posted on Facebook.

Cinco de Mayo

Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

Kathy

  4. I pretty much NEVER sew in the evening either. Just don't have the energy or the inclination. In fact, I rarely sew if hubby is around period. I guess that will have to change after he retires...or I will never sew again, lol. I have made a decision on my next quilt. I am going to make one for a wedding gift. And honestly I am considering a herringbone....in shades of grey. (sound familiar, haha) We will see. Have lifted your family in prayer and will again whenever the Lord draws you all to my mind. Hope your day is a good one!

  5. Praying that the situation will resolve soon.
I think the whole Cinco de Mayo thing has gotten out of hand. People are misinformed as to what it's about, anyway. So, I didn't do anything in school, and it wasn't even mentioned.
HHI: One of my "happy places"!!!
    Glad the zucchini perked up!!!

  8. Cute photo. : )
Your family will be in my prayers, Kathy!
BTW, I have a friend who says no matter what she tries, she can't grow zucchini--and she is a good gardener. Luckily, it is a prolific plant in every other garden around, and she gets plenty of donations.

  11. That is a cute picture. We are in California and I don't think anyone celebrates it here. Though I did fix tacos.
I will keep your prayer in my prayer list.
You are getting ready to leave on a trip aren't you? I had forgot. I am glad you are having such a nice spring.

  12. I will gladly keep your family in my prayers! God is faithful! I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing trip! I know about that being tired in the evening, I can have my sewing or knitting sitting right there, and I feel too tired to even pick it up.

  13. Hope the situation resolves itself quickly so you can have a nice relaxing vacation with no worries. I get too tired at night to sew too.... I wish I had my kids energy!

  14. Hilton Head-lucky you! We have a frost warning tonite which on May 6th is perfectly ridiculous! Enjoy your time away. I do hope your situation is resolved and you are filled with peace about leaving it for a time.

  15. Will be praying for your family. My zucchini did terrible last year and I haven't even planted mine for this year yet. I still trying to decide what to plant this year because of the CSA that we joined. I have tomatoes and herb plants in so far, I am way behind in my gardening this year for a variety of reasons. Hope you enjoy Hilton Head

  21. Cute photo, and I will pray.

What I've had problems with to the point that I've about given up on summer squash of any kind is the squash vine borers. If you slit open a stem and see a big white worm, that's the problem. :(

  22. Hi Kathy, It was so good to catch up with you. I will definitely be praying for peace and are able to go as planned. We are in our new home but there are still so many boxes to unpack. A little at a time. I won't even start on my sewing room til the rest of the house is unpacked.
    Hugs,
    Noreen
