No Black Friday for Me

Nope, you couldn’t pay me to go near a retail store (other than possibly the grocery store) on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year!  We had planned to have 14 this year, but on Wednesday, T#3 came up sick … a trip to the doctor confirmed that he’s contagious so we made phone calls to my dad (he’s almost 89 and we just didn’t want to risk exposing him to a fairly major bug) and my sister.  T#3 seemed to be feeling better yesterday, but T#2 who had been to the doctor on Tuesday seemed to take a turn for the worse yesterday.  I suspect that she’ll be going back today.  :-(

We had the turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato pie casserole, crescent rolls and a corn casserole … the recipe sounded delicious, and the picture included with the recipe looked delicious and who doesn't like corn – but the real life casserole didn’t make it to the table.  :-(  Not that we went hungry with what did make it to the table.  ;-)  For dessert we had chocolate mud pie, chocolate dream pie, a chocolate cinnamon bundt cake, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin-shaped rolled sugar cookies, apple spice cake, and an apple pie.

We played some Scrabble (T#2 won, with a little help from T#1 and her aunt B).  We spent some time outside (it turned out to be a warm and sunny day).  We watched the parade and some movies (Aladdin, which I hadn’t seen in ages … I’d forgotten what a cute movie that is ... and Monsters Inc.).  We watched some football.  And we played a little Wii.  It was a long, full day … a wonderful day!

Today is going to be a lazy day here at Nana’s house. We usually put up our Christmas tree on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving, but I think we’re going to hold off a little this year. We’ll have Ts here next week, and I’d rather leave a lot of room for them to play in our great room. I’ll put the tree up after they’re back home.  Instead I think I’ll take it easy … it might be a good day to do some quilting.  ;-)

  1. So sorry the Ts were/are under the weather. My ham was waaaay too dry...guess I left it in too long, but the turkey turned out great.
No Black Friday here, either, but I may venture out to the Yankee Candle store...I talked to the owner the other day and she said they're having a good sale today.

  2. The food sounds delicious!! Sorry though the the some of the T's weren't feeling good! I would imagine with four, it is never easy to have all of them healthy for the holidays!

Sounds like you had a great day though and got to spend a lot of time with them doing fun family things!

  3. Your blog looks so pretty. Sorry about the corn casserole. I made a corn pudding that was so delicious that I will make it again. I haven't had mud pie in awhile, sounds so good. I love scrabble. I haven't seen Aladsin in a long time but I recently watch Monsters Inc. My tree is up but have a few branches of lights out and not ready to deal with them! Enjoy your day.

  4. Oh, my goodness, at the desserts, what a choice! I'm sorry about the "bug." But, sure don't want to spread it around. Happy rest of the weekend!

  5. Hope everyone is feeling better. We hope to put the tree up today. My hubs back is out so he's not quite up to it at the moment but daughter1's boyfriend is here and he's tall so I told hubs we should let him help get it set up. He has offered so we'll see. We have a busy December and I'm hosting Christmas so I'd like to at least get the tree up even if we don't get to the other decorations. Happy Saturday!
